LiuTian Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Yesterday I called Harbin sports ministry and knew the news that Harbin won't bid 2018, just the same situation I've got when I called for the 2014 bid. To be honest, I'm very very sorrowful and even sobbed last night and didn't sleep. I can't explain my feelings. GB friends you know how I wish for a Harbin bid. Frankly many Harbin people are indignant and can't understand why China sports ministry refuse us. Although a Harbin 2018 is a bit soon after Beijing 2008, we still can organize successful Winter Olympics. What's more, our aims for bidding 2018 is not just to win, is to propagandize the city, to advance the winter sports of China. Why they don't give us a chance to bid ? Now there are only three bids. PyeongChang now is the only one from Asia and has made applications 3 times. That's why I still belive 2018 is the right time for Harbin to bid. We may can't win but we could reduce PC's chance. Now it seems that PC will get the Games. Harbin will have to wait until 2030s+ ... I will be more than forty years old by then..... So it's the time not to log on Gamesbids.com anymore since I fall into deeply heartsick and despair. To my GB friends : It's a big pleasure for me to log on GamesBids.com. It gives me the opporunitis to communicate with people all over the world. I've joined since January 2004. More than five years, this forum means too much to me. Every time I open my computer, one of the first things to do is logging on GB to see your messages. skicross Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 I understand your feelings perfectly. I have experienced the same with the delay of Zaragoza 2018 bid to 2022. It is your decission to leave the forum or not, but I advice you not to do it. The 2018 race is going to be an amazing one and the candidates so far will have to fight really hard to win. I am confident that Harbin, and Zaragoza too, will bid for future WOG and I can see both cities hosting them. Take care and best wishes if you decide to leave the forum! Hope to see you soon here.
Citius Altius Fortius Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Liu Tian, I hope you reconsider your decision to leave GB - I think it is always important to keep in touch with people from all over the world... Caf
4gamesandcounting Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Hope you stick around. Even if Harbin isn't in the running there is always lots to talk about!
thatsnotmypuppy Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Liu Tian - I hope you do stay - we need a Chinese presence here - and while Harbin 2018 is out there is still the Nanjing bid and the Beijing report to look forward to... I also understand your heartbreak - even just bidding could have positive repurcussions for Harbin. However I think after China dropped out of the World Cup race and with the massive cost of the Olympics, next year's World Expo and Guangzhou's Asian Games maybe this was a predicted move. It still is not right though.
mattperiolat Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 I'm really disappointed Harbin is not bidding also, since the bid had been so trumped up here on GB, I was curious to see what a bid book would look like. Plus, correct me if I am wrong, but would this not have been China's first shot at a WOG? I may have had my differences with LiuTian and we'll never see eye to eye on Chinese politics, but I'm sorry to see him go also as it was a voice from the loyal opposition and that can always lead to constructive discussion in civil areas.
Sir Rols Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Yes, do please reconsider, LiuTian. I think it's important we have Chinese members here, and I do think China will play a big role in the Olympics from now. And don't give up hope for Harbin - I think a lot of us assume it is only a matter of time and it WILL happen. Yopu're a member who it would be great to share that journey with. And remember - there's always the games themselves- in Vancouver, London, Sochi and Rio - and watching how China's athletes perform.
IceNarcissus Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 I'll take the tough love role here. You know, you should be lucky you even have a city for which you can feasibly hope to host a games! So many countries and so many people will never EVER in their lifetime be able to have that much hometown pride, much less be able to manifest it in the form of the world's biggest event. Consider yourself blessed, and quit whinin'!
NYCD 2012 Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 Its really hard to see you leave, Liu Tian. I really hope you would reconsider your decision as well. I may not love the Chinese people but I would love to see them host another olympics. I am sure China will bid for the Winter Olympics one day and with the rise of China is the Winter Olympics in 2002 and 2006, I am sure that day will not be far away. 说时迟,那时快 !
Olympic USA Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 LiuTan, I think people respect your passion and knowledge of Chinese Olympic going on's and that you should stay or maybe just take a break for a little bit (I did that and it really helped), don't give up hope, I truly think that Harbin will put in a WOG bid for China again one day. As for 2018 - while it's way too early and something could easily change I for one think that Munich has this in the bag, thus giving Asia a clear shot at 2022 WOG (assuming that the 2020 SOG don't go to Asia). Maybe Harbin will have a shot at the 2022 WOG?
Olympian2004 Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 LiuTian, that your city wasn't considered for a bid now should really not be the reason for you to leave the forum. At least you know that your city remains a potential bidding city and will most probably prove that in the years to come. Now imagine that the sports ministry, your NOC or even the IOC told you that your city shall never bid again. Impossible? No, it isn't. The same happened to my almost-home city of Düsseldorf (I live only 20 kilometres away) in 2003 respectively 2004. First, the German NOC decided against a Düsseldorf bid for the 2012 Summer Games, giving Leipzig the nod. And then, in 2004, the IOC told Leipzig that cities with less than 1.5 million people mustn't bid for Summer Games. Since Düsseldorf only has 580,000 inhabitants, that rule applies also to itself. You can probably imagine that it's even more disappointing to know that you'll never ever see Olympic Games in your home region -- not at an age of 40, not at an age of 80, not even at an age of 110. And despite that huge disappointment, I stayed in the forum back then and rooted for other Olympic bid cities I was convinced of and -- most of all -- continued to take part in all those discussions about the ceremonies, organisation, sports and gossip for and at the various Olympic Games. I think that the Olympic Games are far too exciting to not care about them anymore -- even if you know that your city won't ever be an Olympic host. And so: You're in a far more luxurious situation than I am, since your city will stay a potential Olympic host -- but will only have to wait some more years. So I emphatically ask you to reconsider your decision.
Kenadian Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 Please stay. I'm guessing at this time China just wants to separate some time between Beijing and their next Games. The international focus of 2008 was glaring and I'm sure there is a bit of Olympic fatigue in the People's Republic. But give it time. I wouldn't be surprised to see Harbin in there some day when the powers that be are ready.

micheal_warren Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 You should stay. It is always stink to see people leave gamesbids.
jim jones Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 Well it would be sad to see you leave just because the government decides to delay bidding perhaps. I personally think Harbin might indeed Ace the bid for 2018 as you have a prior event like this with Asia in regards to a nation first hosting the Summer Games and then hosting the winter games 8 years later. Tokyo 1964 then Sapporo 1972. Beijing 2008 was so successful by every grade that China would be hard to beat for 2018 . If it is a matter of waiting to 2022 or 2024 Harbin should be able to win in the future. Jim jones
Fox334 Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 Well, I dunno if you will read this, but I want you to know that you will always be welcomed here. Despite your fixation on posting pictures from Harbin ( ) I think its fair to say that you where an asset to these boards. In any case, farewell and I certainly hope to see you back before long.
baron-pierreIV Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 OK, Liu Tan...you've used up your quota of one dramatic farewell post...which we all know doesn't last very long. You'll be back. We hope....
LiuTian Posted October 16, 2009 Author Report Posted October 16, 2009 THANK YOU to all above very much ! I am deeply affected by your kind words. Perhaps I was so hotheaded to decide to leave GB. Frankly I am just very mirthless to hear any news about 2018 bid for the moment. I'll concentrate my energies on studying my master course of management. Works as an part-time model. I'll be back if PC lose 2018 again and Harbin had the chance to bid 2022. To skicross, Citius Altius Fortius, London2012, thatsnotmypuppy, mattperiolat, Sir Roltel, IceNarcissus, NYCD 2012, Olympic USA, Olympian2004, Kendegra, micheal_warren, jim jones, fox334, baron-pierreIV, may all your wishes come true. Everything goes well.
Torchbearer AA Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 I also hope the Winter Games will soon go to Harbin. The Olympics last year in Beijing were so wonderful, I'm sure China also can organise such beautiful Winter Games. The pictures of the ice sculpture show in Harbin were also heartwarming and so beautiful... I think Harbin deserves it to host the Winter Games. I am sure the olympic family one day will come together in Harbin to celebrate there the Olympic Winter Games. And LiuTian, good luck with your master course of management.
Citius Altius Fortius Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 LiuTian, I am sure you will have time during your studies to come here every now and then...
4gamesandcounting Posted October 18, 2009 Report Posted October 18, 2009 I'm sure we'll see you back soon - good luck with your studies.
jiejie Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 Agree with the others above. I think you should stay with GB and continue to follow events and post from time to time. Picking oneself up after a defeat, and moving on to fight another day--this is one of the sports world's great lessons for each of us. It's disappointing and you may have to wait several years, but Harbin's time will come and you are still a young man. In the meantime, I think one important thing is to try to find other ways to promote winter sports in China, especially among the Chinese public and especially outside Dongbei. Both participation and as spectators. I can't go to Vancouver 2010, but am at least looking forward to the world-class figure skating at the Cup of China on 30-31 October here in Beijing, and to see Heilongjiang's own wonderful Shen & Zhao again.
Xu Wen-Ting Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 wow~TianTian you R so HOT here~!haha i think you just dont know how to express your frustration and disappointment emotion. So many friends from all over the world be with you, be with us... So we have every reason to wait. Just like our GB friends here.
