Summer Olympics: I doubt that we will see another Summer Olympics in South-America for a long time

But someday it will happen again... I hope the planet Earth could exist 'til this day! :D

Agree with Melbourne, Buenos Aries, Denver, Los Angeles, Toronto, Oslo, Krakow, Singapore, Shanghai, Almaty and Beijing. They won't have 3 South African Olympics near to each other. They will probably go to Durban in 2028. Then maybe 2040 or 2044, they would go back to Africa but with Morocco or Nigeria. 3 South African Games would need at least 16-20 Years seperating each. So Durban 2028, Cape Town 2048, Johannesburg 2064. I know the Prediction is too far away. but at least it adds spice to the forum. New Zealand has more chance with a Summer Olympics than a Winter Olympics IMHO. I don't think Oceania, South America or Africa will host a Winter Olympics for a while. Also, I recon by late 2030's or 2040's, Dubai will host a Summer Olympics.

-The thread is about "potential" candidates AFTER 2016. Not necessary means in near future. Just for proposition. With the African and South American candidates it won't mean the cities will be close each other.

-Considering that Nigeria is close of a civil war between north and south, it's out of the consideration. Even Kenya has better chance, and that's a big dark horse. It's South Africa and maybe Morocco.

-Unfortunally NZ is out for a Summer Olympics Games, especially for a small city like Christchurch. First, Christchurch is a very small city by SOG standards, with only 380.000 habitants in the METROPOLITAN AREA; if any case, Auckland is the ONLY candidate, and still they will probably lose. The only SOG host countries with small populations -Less than 11 mill.- are Finland, Australia (In 1956) and Greece -And Finland was an exception: A neutral country between the confrontation West-East in the beginning of the Cold War (1952)-. This is also another minus for all the Dohas/Bakus. New Zealand is a country with only 4,5 millions, even with the consideration of being a rich country, the cost of a SOG is huge and unsustainable for the average joe and the logistics is a nightmare. In that consideration, unless the IOC really drops the high bar for a SOG -Which won't happen with the clear competition and bigger candidates-, for NZ is the WOG or nothing.

Wellington has 900 more habitants that Christchurch and the topology is terrible. If that's the case, Auckland is the ONLY NZ potential city and still have an uphill battle. Again a SOG in New Zealand needs to change the prospects of the bids and lack of REAL competition. Meanwhile is only an utopic dream.

And Abuja... They can't get a proper bid for the Commonwealth Games and the city is chaotic with lack of real infrastructure.

Only Auckland could ever host an Olympics for New Zealand AND THEN only if 2040 (has been looked at) or beyond...NZ needs another two million people. Sorry to say, but the next Oceanic city will be Melbourne or Brisbane. Don't even bother with the OWGs, those are NOW too big for what NZ would get little gain out of. We barely can front a team. And only a silver for its entire OWG history. Edited by Alexjc

So if the Winter Olympics are off (for many reasons) and the Summer Games too, why doesn't Auckland go for the YOG? A YOG centred on Albany would be awesome.

I think if NZ is not careful, attention craving Queensland will jump on it. I can't see Melbourne or Sydney bidding for it.

Winter Games:

Asia: I'm interested in a bid from Almaty. Eventually I'd imagine it'll go back to Sapporo or Nagano.

Europe: It's been a long time since the Winter Games have been in Austria/France/Switzerland. Davos/St. Moritz?

North America: Anchorage could be cool, but I'd like to see a New England bid. Boston and...somewhere? Albany/Mt. Snow?

Summer Games:

Asia: After Tokyo, Hong Kong. 20 years down the line, who knows, maybe Bangkok will be developed enough.

Europe: Paris. Maybe Amsterdam, Budapest, Kiev, or St. Petersburg some day.

North America: Washington, DC. Maybe Miami or San Juan, in 30 years.

Africa: It's hard to know who will be developed enough to support a games in the future. It'll be a while.

Oceania: Different problem from Africa. It'll also be a while, though.

South America: Eventually, Cali. But that's a long way off.

Summer Games

Europe: Istanbul, Paris or Berlin - any of these would be good hosts

N America: NYC or Toronto

S America: Santiago if its big enough. Argentina is an economic basket case otherwise Buenos Aires would be a prime candidate

Asia: Shanghi - after Tokyo 2020 I'm not really confident that any other country could cope or is stable enough apart from China

Africa: Cape Town

Oceana: Melbourne or Brisbane

Winter Games

Europe: Oslo, Munich or a suitable city in Sweden

N America: Denver

S America: not sure about their winter capabilities

Asia: Harbin or Almaty

Africa: N/a

Oceana: Christchurch assuming there is resources to rebuild the earthquake damage and build a winter sports complex

WOG

Just to question a few of those:

Summer:

You think Hamburg would Host a Summer Olympics before Rome, Paris or Berlin? No chance.

You think Busan would Host a Summer Olympics before Shanghai, Manila, Taipei or Kuala Lumpur? No chance.

You think San Francisco would Host a Summer Olympics before Los Angeles or Toronto? No chance.

South America: Buenos Aires I agree with. Or maybe Santiago or Lima.

Oceana: Melbourne I agree.

Africa: Durban I agree.

Winter:

Europe: Oslo I agree.

You think Harbin would host a Winter Olympics before Sapporo or Almaty?

You think Salt Lake City (who hosted recently in 2002) would host before Quebec City or Denver? No chance.
