Van Basten, Rijkaard, Gullit, Van Breukelen and as coach Michels? It wasn't that bad. Certainly not in the semi and in the final! in the group stages it wasn't that good at all, except the 3-1 against England. But I agree, in 1974 we had the best team ever. But we didn't win! We lost from 11 players who had the technique of a turtle.

But what about Koeman? Rotterdam 1993. Koeman should have been sent off for a professional foul on David Platt. Then, he scored the opening goal. The words of the late great Brian Moore will be etched on my memory forever: "He's gonna flick one, he's gonna flick one and it's in." He should not have been on the pitch to do it. That's why Ronald Koeman is not an individual I have a great deal of time for.
Suit U Sir !!!
I think the primary goal for Australia will be to try and win at least 1 group game, and NOT to lose all group stage games. To lose all 3 group games and leave the tournament without a single win would be a disaster.

arwebb
So do I, very clearly. It has entered folklore over here for a documentary following the then England manager Graham Taylor and his repeated use of the phrase "Do I Not Like That". I've seen Australia in friendlys twice this year at (The friendly confines of) Craven Cottage and although they underperformed in their one nil win against New Zealand, it was under the old manager Frank Farina. When they played Jamaica under Guus Hiddink they ruled the entire game and slaughtered Jamaica five goals to nil. They aren't going to win the thing (Altough Greece weren't going to win Euro 2004.) but any team playing them should take them seriously. To do otherwise would be at their own peril. Sir Rols
He's caused quite a stir down here: Arnold slams Arena's Socceroos comments Sportal Assistant coach Graham Arnold has laughed off claims by United States coach Bruce Arena that the Socceroos will be the easybeats of next year's World Cup finals. Arena nominated Australia and Trinidad and Tobago as the weakest of the 32 teams that have qualified for the tournament in Germany, but Arnold bristled at the suggestion from a 'footballing giant like the Americans'. "Maybe if someone connected with Brazil, Argentina, Italy or France said something like that, then you could understand it," Arnold told The Australian. "After all, how many World Cups have they won between them?" "But for the Americans to make such a sweeping statement, well, I find that amusing and hard to take. The last time I looked they hadn't won the World Cup. Surely he knows the calibre of players we have in our squad." "Look at Mark Viduka, Harry Kewell, Mark Schwarzer, Tim Cahill, John Aloisi, Vince Grella and Marco Bresciano, to name a few. They are playing in some of the best leagues in Europe. They are quality players who won't be out of place on the World Cup stage." Arnold did admit though that he would prefer it if Australia's opponents continue to underrate the Oceania champion. "If the other countries want to take us lightly then they do so at their own peril," Arnold added. "But that sort of negativity will work to our advantage. Look what happened to Uruguay." "When we beat them to qualify for the World Cup finals, I think we showed the world what we are capable of. Uruguay paid a severe price for their cockiness and, if the other countries react the same way, then it will suit us perfectly." Not to mention a solid Olympic performance with a very much second string team. Not to mention making it through possibly THE HARDEST qualifying legs of any team. You certainly cant say the same thing about the United States and thier qualifying legs. The current system makes it almost impossible for teams like Australia and New Zealand to qualify, mainly when we see other "easy-beat" teams such as Costa Rica in the finals.... I think everyone seriously under estimates the potential of some of these teams.
Sir Rols
Here's Sven-Goran Eriksson's view of the Aussies: By Simon Stone LONDON, Dec 8 PA - Sven-Goran Eriksson will find out England's first three World Cup rivals in Leipzig tomorrow, and he's desperately hoping to avoid an Ashes rematch with Australia. The England manager freely admits if he had been fully aware of the historic sporting rivalry between the two nations he would never have sanctioned the infamous friendly with the Socceroos at West Ham in 2003. The game is now notorious as the night Eriksson fielded two completely different sides in a match England lost 3-1. But for Swedish coach Eriksson, it provided an insight into how much Australian passion is reserved for beating England. And it is something he would prefer to avoid at next year's Finals in Germany. ``The English speaking countries are desperate to beat England in a big tournament, which is why I don't want to play against Australia or the United States,'' said Eriksson. ``But there is is a wider aspect to Australia. ``There is a sporting rivalry between the two countries. What I saw during the summer when England won the cricket was amazing. ``If I had known all about the rivalry, I would never have played that friendly against them. ``It was far from a friendly game. They wanted to beat us, and they did.'' ... PA The USA has a far better team than Australiathe easy teams of the tournement are Costa Rica, Ecuador, Trinidad and Tobago, Togo, Angola, Australia, and Saudi Arabia Actually, the USA has played Australia twice, but has never beaten us (Australia has won one, and drawn the other. It was seven years ago and the United States probably has improved, no doubt they have. BUT SO HAVE WE. This is probably one of the best sides we've ever had and now the FFA has got its act together (well, for the meantime) i wouldnt doubt the Socceroo's to easily. We've qualified, we've beaten several big teams and are slowly moving up the ranks. Please note that the players few for Australian national players is one of the smallest of any nation.... On home turf i really dont see the US standing much of a chance. In the US or Germany, yes the story is different. Dont the think if Sven has his doubts, so should you? We are no easy-beats.
