Athensfan Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 I disagree. Our chances are better with a WOG. We should go for 2022. Reno-Tahoe is my choice!! Why settle for the consolation prize, Baron? I don't understand your reasoning. Yes, we could get 2022, but we'd all be old and gray by the time we saw another U.S. summer games. The summer games are the best bet for keeping the Olympic Movement alive in the U.S. We are better at those sports, they make more money, attract bigger audiences and leave a bigger legacy. I truly believe 2022 would be a huge mistake. Please help me understand why you back the idea...

I truly believe 2022 would be a huge mistake. Please help me understand why you back the idea... Well... For 2 big reasons: #1 - We have to develop our winter athletes as well. NBC needs those figure skaters!! #2 - a WOG, which is imminently easier to get..and which they sometimes throw at you as a consolation prize, helps replenish the USOC's coffers...which if you remember, does NOT get funds from the gov't...so it has to grind for funds; so a WOG maybe would turn in 75% of what a SOG would've brought. 75%of 0% is a whole lot better IMO, doncha think?
Olympic USA Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 Any possibilities of an Eastern US city bidding? Well Lake Placid hosted two WOG so I don't see why an eastern city would be dismissed from hosting one. Boston and the state of Massachusetts are looking into an Olympic games bid but the rumors of it are leaning more towards a summer bid. However, in looking at the bill proposed to form an Olympic task force I have a feeling they will look at the option of a winter bid. If they did that then they would need to partner with New Hampshire and/or Vermont. And I have personally always thought it would be nice to see a bid from Burlington, VT. But at this point there has been no official announcement of a WOG bid from an eastern US city.
