olympian Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 the USOC has made it known that they won't be mounting a bid for 2018.
IceNarcissus Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 A correspondent on BBC World just elaborated that one of the big surprises of Chicago's loss was in light if their sports history, having several professional teams including the "Boston Red Sox, Boston White Sox, Boston Celtics, and all of those sorts of teams". I SWEAR she just said this! LMAO.

IceNarcissus Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 what? The White Sox is one of Chicago's MLB team, while the Red Sox is Boston's team. Exactly, she clearly had her facts messed up
cslopes54 Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 Boston College! it'd be fantastic having the games home
Rogerioandrade Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 I´m shocked too. I was sure that Chicago would be either the winner or the second (after Rio, which I support) Anyway, USOC SHOULD consider a bid for 2020
cslopes54 Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 Get rid of macys near the Corner mall, nd it's good
olympian Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 Get rid of macys near the Corner mall, nd it's good near downtown? south side? anywhere near the convention center?
MrCatra Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 Well the bid didn't have me on the team and of course, the Brazilians paid the highest bribes!! Congrats, Rio -- well, except for one ape there...and it knows who it is. AHAHAHHAAHAHAHHAAHHAA eI BARON VAI TOMAR NO C!!!! EI BARON VAI TOMAR NO C!!!!

olympian Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 i wonder if they are still holding a grudge over he salt lake city bribery scandal?
olympian Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 I'd prefere near the airport, there're some vacant land here nd it's near water..aren't there a lot on nimby's near logan? how far is roxbury from let's say fenway?
Guardian Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 i wonder if they are still holding a grudge over he salt lake city bribery scandal? I think it is because America has hosted so many Games, in comparison to the rest of the world's nations.
NewYork2016 Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 i wonder if they are still holding a grudge over he salt lake city bribery scandal? The way Chicago is doing its business with their bid, the Salt Lake City would look like amateurs compared to the graft and corruption we'll see on a Chicago 2016 Olympics. I really think it was on the IOC voting member's minds.
altosax29b Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 Hoping for Boston 2020! I have a strong feeling that your hopes will come true. Hopefully New York will host it one day, but I think Boston is in line for 2020.
scooter133 Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 It's going to be interesting to see what the USOC does after this. They're apparently not going to speak tonight, which I don't blame them. However, do you think there's any chance they'll rule out a 2020 bid at all? Personally, I hope they go for it. I'd like to see Chicago bid again with Boston and other cities thrown into the domestic race. Another scenario would be that if Chicago decides to bid again, they wouldn't even hold a domestic race. Another country did that recently--picking a bid city for 2 cycles--but which country I don't remember.
Rob2012 Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 I'm no expert in US politics, but I can't imagine Daley wanting to go back to the scene of his city's loss, assuming he's re-elected. And if he's not re-elected (Chicagoans can perhaps tell me if this is true) I suspect his replacement will have used the Olympics as a big stick to beat him with, so will hardly be willing to put in a bid himself.
Athensfan Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 I will be shocked if the U.S. is dumb enough to bid for 2020. They have so much work to do. First, get consistent, charismatic, reliable leadership in the IOC. Second, develop relationships w/ the IOC -- real relationships, not phony ones where its obvious that you just want something out of them. Tokyo might want to think about 2020 -- couldn't be a sharper contrast to Rio.
Dino Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 I agree. The US putting a bid for 2020 would seem like a waste. Relationships between the IOC and USOC are simply cold. Plus the appalling 18 votes tells us something. Why pursue something when they're telling us they don't want us? Daley has mentioned that right now he thinks Chicago won't be bidding for the 2020 games. However, I don't see a competitor in the 2011 mayoral elections to use this against Daley. The man still has a vision for a better Chicago. Who else can step up to that (mayoral) plate? Not one that I know of.
