An American Telling You How Your Cauldron Lighting Is Gonna Go.

Jamie Sale & David pelletier will hand off the torch to Wayne Gretzsky who will light the cauldron.

Just like Michael Jordan would light the 2016 chicago Cauldron or Pele would light the 2016 Rio Cauldron...Wayne will light Vancouver's.

Only an attack from Skynet will prevent that.

Yes, and maybe you can even have Elizabeth Manley or Barbara Wagner or Robert Paul to light. Isn't that something?

It will be an Canadian Olympian that lights the cauldron, not an American professional athlete that was in the Olympics for a week and did nothing. If it is a hockey player it will be Joe Sakic, from Metro Vancouver, scored the winning goal in 2002 and was 2002 MVP. But it will be unlikely to be a hockey player. Geatan Boucher, Marc Gagnon, Cindy Klassen, Catherina Le May Doan, Clara Hughes, or Kerrin Lee-Gartner. Nancy Greene or Myriam Bedard would have been in the list, but the former unlikely because she is a Conservative Senator and the latter because of legal issues.

Why not Paul Henderson ?

I agree that beside his famous goal against Tretiak in Moscow in 1972, his carrer was ordinary.

But, many canadians consider that specific goal as the greatest and most important moment in the canadian sport history.

But it's the Olympics, so an Olympian is most appropriate and most likely to be signed off on by the IOC. Canada has had a very rich history over the last 25 years for winter Olympians. One of them should have the honour, not a hockey player, a no name kid or anyone else.

Interesting list. But I think it'll be an Olympian rather than a sports star.

I think it could be Hayley Wickenheiser or Clara Hughes, among active athletes. Both have competed at Winter and Summer Games. Wickenheiser has a game the day after, but it's at 17h and against Slovakia; Hughes skates the day after. Wickenheiser is probably the greatest woman to ever play hockey, has 2 gold and 1 silver medal, and is very well respected in the sporting community in general. But Clara Hughes has 2 cycling bronzes and gold, silver and bronze in speed skating--and she's probably the most respected Olympian among active athletes. I expect one of them will be flag bearer in the Opening if they're not in the relay.

I expect to see the following in the relay:

Marc Gagnon (3 gold, 2 bronze in short track speed skating)

Cindy Klassen (1 gold, 2 silver, 3 bronze in speed skating) but she might decline

Myriam Bedard (2 gold, 1 bronze in biathlon)

Nancy Greene Raine (1 gold, 1 silver in alpine skiing)

Pierre Luedders (1 gold 1 silver 1 bronze in bobsleigh)

Karen Percy (2 bronze alpine skiing in Calgary)

Beckie Scott (1 gold, 1 silver in cross country skiing)

Nathalie Lambert (1 gold, 2 silver in short track speed skating)

Mario Lemieux (1 gold in hockey, as captain)

I can't see Pele Lighting the Cauldron if Rio was awarded 2016 . Pele never competed in a single Olympics . Now Oscar Schmidt would be a more likely candidate having scored over 1000 points in Five Olympic Basketball Tournaments being the all time highest scorer in Olympic Basketball while playing for Brazil. This included play in the Moscow 1980 games which Brazil did not boycott and the Barcelona Games which American Pros like Michael Jordan , Magic Johnson and Larry Bird all looked forward to Playing the Brazilan Legend of Basketball. Oscar Schmidt was the driving force of the Brazilian Team that beat the 1987 Pan Am USA team that included the 1992 USA Dream Teams David Robinson. In the Final on Pan Am 1987 Oscar Schmidt scored 42 points in the Final half for Brazil to Upset the US for the Gold Medal in the Heartland of America Basketball Indianapolis, Indiana

The teflon roof is not designed to handle the 4000 degree heat from the Flame.

The teflon dome will blow up.

That is why we need a Retractable Roof. The Government has pulled financing, so the Whitecaps will have to pay for a Retractable

Are you still on that 4000 degrees thing . I have said it before if the Flame was 4000 degrees the cauldron itself would melt no matter what metal you used except for Tungsten. Carbon Steel metals at 2870 degrees and Cast Iron at less then 2000 degrees. Aluminum at 1200 degree F. There have been Cauldrons of those materials and not of tungsten or some of the other rare metals.

Universal Studios in LA have an indoor Ride for the Movie Backdraft with Exposed fireballs and they accomplish this with mist water curtains shielding the audience from the heat .

You show yourself to be a one tracked moron frankly .
