Rob2012
I'd also support all of the home nations, but there still exists a rivalry and this makes Scotland's draw quite amusing.
Suit U Sir !!!
Do you dislike Scotland that much?I would cheer on all Home Nations (and others), first England, then Wales and Northern Ireland (family connections), and then Greece (because I've been told to) and Ireland (other connections), then Scotland. That would be the order of rank if they played each other, but I would cheer them all on. It's not so much a case of disliking Scotland or Wales, it's just a bit of fun and teasing. I mean when England lost to Portugal in 2004, a lot of Scots had a smirk on their face the next day. It's the same for us as well- knowing that they will have to get past France and Italy (nearly impossible) has put a smirk on our faces. In contrast we have the daunting task of facing FYR macedonia..... When it comes down to it, there most definetly is solidarity between the home nations and we do want each other to do well. There's no major hatred between the nations, I mean nobody in scotland was laughing on July 7th when London's transport system was attacked. Similarly, no-one in England was glad when a plane was blown up over lockerbie in 1988.
Colonel Iredale
Well, I wasn't doubting a rivallary, it's war when we play each other! I would just be careful poking fun now... because if it backfired...
zenica
My opinion is that England, Netherland and Tchech Republic will be the big favorites for 2008
zenica
Today there are no big and small competitors. Nearly all of the teams are able to qualify for 2008, and this is what counts at the end

zenica
the OC for EC 2008 is looking for experienced companies for signage for the 8 stadiums.
arwebb
we will se a lot of very dramatic high-level qualification matches in 2006 and 2007 for EC 2008 Hopefully so. A nice starter before the main course in Austria and Switzerland.
Suit U Sir !!!
I would just be careful poking fun now... because if it backfired... Do you mean England losing to Northern ireland in the world cup qualifiers? Hopefully the lesson was learnt and it was a much needed kick up the backside for the England team. They went on to beat Argentina though, so hopefully the problem has been rectified.
arwebb
Shame none of the other home nations could join England on the plane to Germany.
zenica
for EC 2008 every venue city has it´s own ambassador, like for WC 2006 in Germany. I.e. for Vienna this will be Prohaska, a former National team player from Austria.
zenica
I´m sure after the qualifying matches Switzerland and Austria will organise an excellent EuropeCup 2008. We will see the best teams there.

zenica
the OC Switzerland/Austria need support by experienced people in next future which were part of big sport events. In Portugal they had a lot of unexperienced people. To guarantee that everything works well they need these people.
arwebb
What was wrong with Euro 2004? It was an excellent tournament and the Portuguese were excellent hosts.
Sir Rols
I agree _ I never heard anything bad about the Portugal tournament _ from comments here and in the press it seemed to be a big success _ enough to feed speculation about a possible Portugal Olympic bid. zenica
This statement came from Martin Kallen, CEO of the OC. Portugal´s problems were based on financial issues (venues were not completed in time etc). There was net enough money there to prepare the event in time. arwebb
But there was nothing wrong with the venues for the championship, was there?
zenica
The venues were ok, in general. Some of them were not completely finished but that was not really a problem. Have a look at the stadium in Braga. I now exactly what I´m talking about
arwebb
What exactly did you expect them to do? Knock down that whole rock face? It's unusual and very impressive in its way. Really, I do wish you would use your brain every now and then.
zenica
It was not the intention to build this stadium as it now is. They had not enough money to complete the construction. Without help of government and UEFA they would have had real problems. There were no real problems but only because of big support by UEFA. UEFA is the 3rd event after Olympics and Football WorldCup so the organisation should be of the same rank.
arwebb
But what did they deliver? How about I tell you? They delivered high quality venues for a high quality tournament. Look at the two stadia in Lisbon - outstanding venues worthy of any major city in the world. Who cares about ultimate intentions? I care about ultimate delivery and you cannot claim they failed on that score.
zenica
I don´t want to critisize the tournament. It was a perfect tournament with perfect stadiums. But Portugal did it only with big help from EU and UEFA. The statement regarding the problems came from Martin Kallen, CEO of the organisation committee of the tournament. A person who should know what he is talking about.
