Next Asian country to host FIFA World Cup?

Recommended Posts

After 2 Southern Hemishpere WCs in 2010 and 2014, I don't think a 3rd s.h. WC will happen until 2030 at the earliest.

So I would rule Australia out for the next 2 decades.

I don't think the North-South divide is as pronounced with the FIFA WC as it is with the Olympics. A lot more soccer powers are south of the equator than general sports powers, so the WC has had to come south more often.

I'd say of more importance is the time zone divide _ which is good and bad news for a USA 2018 tournament. The next two (Germany 2006 and SAfrica 2010) are perfectly placed for the prime-time TV audiences in the European heartland, while 2014 (assuming it goes to Brazil or somewhere else in South America) will fit the western hemiphere zone. What does this mean for 2018? Probably not much of an indicator, except that Europe's getting two in a row in its time zone, so why not the Americas (or Asia again)?

As to your other points about Australia, I concur. As I said before, I really don't think Oz is going to host anytime soon, though in the long run I'm sure it will happen.

I totally agree with what you said roltel - although I must stop using split infinitives...

Blatter said that rotation is end, because it was just an excuse for an African WC.

About the topic, I think China is the only country that could host the WC, at least in the next fifty years. Australia could host also, but I don't think in the next years.

I know USA will host again, but I don't think 2018 will be the year. I think they have real posibilities for 2026.

USA, Mexico, China, Australia and Morocco. I think they are, in order, the only countries capable of hosting the WC outside Europe/South America.

If Iran hadn't had an been an Islamic state, then I would have definately favoured them seeing that they are one of the powerhouses within Asia.

I wouldn't be surprised if the UAE goes ahead with a joint bid with Qatar to have the chance to host a future World Cup. I mean, these nations literally have money to burn.

Yeah, but it takes at least 9 major/middling cities to host a World Cup.  Between the UAE and Qatar, how many are there? 3?  Not nearly enough.  And then everything has to stop, what 5x a day, so all the moslems can pray?  How do you do that in the middle of the tournaments?   :glare:

Your right about the fact that they might not have enough cities to host the competition, even though they maybe financially able to pull it off.

Also, life within those states dosen't stop 5 times day just to observe prayers. Thats only in Islamic regimes that govern the whole nation that you see this. From what I heard, everyone is free to practice which ever faith freely in those two states. I hope that you aren't the impression that this is the case across the Islamic world.

We all know in the 'civilizated' Muslim countries (like Turkey, UAE, Egypt...) the people don't play if they don't want  :)

You may live to regret these words Mikel!

God damn it!  My nerves are frayed to the edge because of all the fireworks going off around my house!  It's that time of the season over here in the UK!  Next door to me is a bit much though!! God, I am a nervous wreck!
