I just browsed for fun the website of the German travel agency, who is partner of the German Olympic Committee, and I was astonished that it seems that Germans have still a huge choice for tickets (even both ceremonies are still available (OC 870 € and CC 630 € are the most expensive one)...

The accomodation and the flights would be e.g.

Sutton Place Hotel (double room) incl. flights 3,700 (5 nights)

Whistler Pinnacle Hotel (double room) incl. flights 4,800 (13 nights)

I just wonder if it is still possible to book hotel rooms in Vancouver and Whistler without flights...

If you can get tickets its not bad.

I just read a little bit more in the details of the website of the Travel Agency - you have to start an inquiry for the tickets, which you want - this inquiry is binding

I wonder if the states have different/own ticket contingents...

Yeah, that is defintely not cheap, but I doubt that you will be able to find cheap offers for any Olympic Games...

I just wanted to check what you have to pay for a trip from Germany to Vancouver - and if there are still tickets available

Our airport here in Kelowna was supposed to start offering non-stop flights from Berlin and other European cities after they extended the runway, but I don'tknow if they started that service yet. Even if you do fly into Kelowna, you still have to drive the 4-5 hrs to Vancouver.

Only direct flights between Germany and Vancouver on scheduled service is to/from Frankfurt: Lufthansa code shared with Air Canada. It's a very nice flight...puts AC to shame in every respect.

Whistler probably has space still via the resort (Intrawest). I know that VANOC is still securing space for its needs. Vancouver is booked though: folks are now either doing B&Bs, house rentals or staying out in Langley or even Blaine WA.

I believe they still have availability at the downtown YWCA in Vancouver. I would rate it as a 2.5 star hotel at least.

It's actually a nice place and a GREAT location: Burrard Street near Pender.

Yes - I'm staying there. I thin they still have availability - but not through the whole games, and they may be only down to dorms now.

Just checked online with Air Canada and there is lots seats/flights available for Toronto to Vancouver during the Olympics. The price seems very reasonable for the Olympics.

$359 each way plus taxes.

My family are coming from NYC. I suggested--and they followed my advice--they flight the non-stop Cathay Pacific flight.

I second your sentiment 100% Last Feb. I flew from NYC to Vancouver on Cathay Pacific and the experience was fantastic. Clean new planes, comfy seats, wonderful flight crew, private seat screens. It was so fantastic that I've booked my Olympic flight with Cathay Pacific. Since Vancouver is a stopover on the way to Hong Kong, the flight amenities are those of an overseas international flight, including excellent food!

The only possible downside for some could be the fact that the non-stop flights are red-eyes. However, this is absolutely outweighed by this great airline and its great fares. Btw--I decided to extend my Olympic trip after I booked my flight and the change fee was only $34.00!!!

Very kewl. Technically JFK-YVR isn't a red-eye, since it doesn't arrive at daybreak here in Vancouver. though it is 4am NY time!

The schedule to NYC used be mid-afternoon from YVR, arriving at JFK around 11pm. Shame the dropped it, it was PERFECT for a long weekend in either city going either direction.

Trust me, when you leave your home one night, travel for six hours across the continent, and arrive the next day, that is the quinessential red-eye. But, as I said, Cathay Pacific is worth the trouble :)

I'm actually thinking about it now.

My employer is the national sponsor for the Vancouver Olympics. They're actually designing and outfitting the Canadian Olympic teams uniforms for the Games.

Anyways, I remember seeing a notice sent out to everyone in regards to a great deal that's being offered to employees of HBC. I forgot the price but it included airfare to Vancouver, hotel accommodations, Tickets to the Opening Ceremony, and a handful of other sporting events including the Gold Medal Men's Hockey Game. I also forgot how long the duration of the trip would be. I think it was for atleast 1 week. I think this all was going for at least $2,000 CDN.
