Hi all. I received a conditional job offer to work at the Olympics in Whistler with the job fair they're running in Regina. The only catch is that while First Nations are being offered accomodations, everybody else has to find their own accomodations(they may include other people to be allowed to stay, but that won't be known until October or November.

So, I am asking for a lot, but does anybody know of anyone who would be willing to rent a bed out. I am looking for reasonable rates and looking at staying from the end of January to the end of March. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated

Gonna be a tough one mate. Best option is probably to get out there ASAP and hit the pavement. There's a hostel nearby and UBC has a Lodge that's also cheap. When does the job start?

Job is in Whistler so UBC is out of the question. Never thought about the hostel. Going to give them a call

Job in Whistler is Jan 22 to March 26

Perhaps I wasn't clear: UBC has a lodge in Whistler. I know where UBC is: I attended grad skool there. :)

My suggestion was to bite the bullet and go out earlier--much earlier--and find something yourself. I wasn't suggesting booking now for Games-time.

Phoned the hostel in Whistler and they aren't willing to do long term stays & don't have room during that period :(

Have slowly found that out. crud, why didn't they hold this job fair earlier to allow people to find housing. Like I said, hopefully the company will allow me to join the housing they set up with VANOC

Have you tried putting in an ad? Either on craigslist or say, a local newspaper? Instead of competing with others also looking, you will have would-be landlords come to you. Make your ad as compelling as you can...and stress 'references easily on request' since you are appealing to people to take you into their homes.

have considered putting ad in craigslist, but with the huge price diff between renters and landlords on craigslist - $2400 - $5000 doubt would go anywhere. local newspaper may be too expensive to place ad. I appreciate everyones help

HUGE bump and update

It looks like the company is extending accomodations to me, so I am taking the job & accomodations and running with it. I want to thank everybody for their kind words and assistance. When I got the e-mail and letter confirming everything, I was over the moon. This will be the oppurtunity of a lifetime. Granted I will not be able to continue with university in the winter but this is huge.

there are no beds in whistler. VANOC have captured anything resembling a bed in the area.

Actually that's not true: the resort is holding rooms back, since 80% of the resort is fully operational during the Games period.

UBC Whistler Lodge has just started accepting spaces for a room lottery...but non-UBC students will be paying 99$ a night for a dorm bed.....
