FDLondon
I have my first rehearsal in the Stadium tomorrow. I haven't been there since the test event so am super-excited. Not entirely sure how much work I'll get done tomorrow in the office!
Olympian2004
Oh please don't go. Even if you don't give anything anyway I still enjoy your posts because you talk about your emotion about being involved. I like to hear if your rehearsal has gone well etc. Just ignore people 'wildly speculating' and give us your unique postings on how well things are going. I appreciate it anyway! To everyone else, spoilers are fine. I think if you don't want to know anything then just don't enter this thread, but I also agree that an aerial shot here and hearsay there will not give the real impression of what is going on. No need to worry. To some who just think they are poking fun - those involved in the ceremony are never going to be completely okay with it even if they are tolerant about it for a while and then snap every so often. However, there are some of us that are not involved, who do have a sense of humour, sometimes we still don't get some of your comments. So basically, think before you post then maybe people won't attack you. I guess it is a little give and take - if everyone thought before they cliked the send button on their post, maybe some arguments could be avoided. People involved directly with these things are bound to get tetchy if people dig and make bad jokes about these things - humour is fine so just keep it to a minimum or at least neutral! Anyway, let's enjoy this thread and what it can give us - if you don't want to know anything then I guess stay out of this one! I don't think that we non-participants were particularly critical, Beth. In fact, the criticism was very sparse, there were rather a few sceptical comments and most here were impressed and/or pleasantly surprised by what has been unveiled so far. And even if someone is a bit too harsh in his criticism, everyone involved with the ceremony can calmly reply "Just wait till you see it." I think no one of them should take it personally, especially not if he isn't actually involved in the ceremonial segment which gets criticised. FDLondon
To be fair to adrian, this last weekend was a long tough one for a number of segments with the weather not helping matters so nerves may have been more overwrought than usual. In general, I think most of the volunteer performers are excited about what they are doing and genuinely believe it will do London proud.

I am not accusing everyone in this thread of beeing anything! I was just trying to say that people who are involved in the opening ceremony should not feel tnd hat they can't post their feelings and that people who have some humour reaction to some posts can't feel like that they can't post either. All I am saying is just be aware of what you are posting and how people might take it! That's all! I like others want to enjoy the build up to the games and people's excitement. What I don't want is people involved in the games feeing like they can't post their stuff before the games for fear of giing stuff away!.

paul65
I too have a ticket for the 25 July Technical Rehearsal. Am over the moon. Just read the Terms and Conditions for the ticket which reads, 'We appreciate your help in making sure everything is ready for the big day. The full Ceremony will be watched by billions of people around the world. We don’t want to ruin the surprise for them so please help us keep the contents of the show a secret.' Us Games Maker spectators are in the very privileged positon of being able to see the rehearsal before the proper opening ceremony. We should respect that privilege and LOCOG's request and simply enjoy what we see during the rehearsals in the company of our family of dedicated 2012 Games Maker brothers and sisters. Being in the stadium tonight was very cool; the sheer scale of organisation around it is mind-blowing!
kevzz
Danny Boyle apologised to the volunteer for the leak. That's very kind of him. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-18702569
baron-pierreIV
Danny Boyle apologised to the volunteer for the leak. That's very kind of him. http://www.bbc.co.uk...t-arts-18702569 Sorry, Kev, but that is unexciting news. He didn't have to apologize. I mean, why the self-flagellation? Open season is just part of the whole game. And i's just part of human nature to be curious.
FDLondon
It is part of human nature and what Danny is doing is more about being empathetic to the frustrations the volunteers feel about leaks particularly when they have been stoical in resisting temptation. It's also probably partially an effort to stop them feeling so 'what's the point of keeping secrets' that they start to talk! Basically, it costs nothing and may not have any material effect on the leakage but makes people feel better about holding up their end of the bargain

But if it's forbidden, it just makes it that much more tempting. And you can only hold back so much. You gotta.... ...jerk off sometime. kevzz
That's really sad news. Was looking forward to his performance... I reckon the ideal replacement is Daniel Day Lewis http://www.standard....28-7920059.html

I reckon the ideal replacement is Daniel Day Lewis http://www.standard....28-7920059.html Awwww. That's too bad. (Odd, another Natasha show-biz person who dies suddenly, just like Vanessa Redgrave's daughter, Natasha, who died in that skiing accident in Quebec about 2 years ago.) Welll, if it's Daniel Day Lewis, then it would be great PR for his LINCOLN movie which is sked to come out in December though. (There's plenty of time to find a suitable replacement in one of the two theatre capitals of the English-speaking world. Who does a good Sir Laurence Olivier impression? Dame Judi Dench? Or Derek Jacobi, Colin Firth or Jim Broadbent could do it also. ) On another front, from the bits'n'pieces leaked about, it's odd that like no 'formal' salute to London 1908 or 1948 was been mentioned. Are they completely going to ignore the previous two Olympiads?
kevzz
From today's Evening Standard. Most volunteer performers will be whisked away from stadium after performing and miss the end of the show. That's a shame though, I always thought everyone will be seeing the rest of the show backstage on some telly. Is it true Adrian/ FD?
baron-pierreIV
Kevzz, that's how it's done. They need to clear out as many bodies as they can after their parts because when the curtain falls, there will still be like 92,000 bodies there. And they need to get the athletes back to the Village as quicky as possible; her Majesty and the IOC brass have to get home ASAP too. They need to put away the OC props, and I am sure as the last visitors are shown out, crews will start to dismantle the stage and set up for Athletics. Especially with this show...from which I can judge is the most materiel-heavy of the last 3 Olympic OCs (meaning, from what I've seen, this OC has probably more per cubic foot mass of props/set to haul out). If you've already sent home some 8,000; then that's just much less mass to move out after midnight. They will need every hour to clear the stage, and the corridors of non-T&F stuff and restart placing the sod there ASAP. Then they will need to bring in all the T&F equipment and all the stuff the press, Athletics people will need. (I don't know that they can even let the Rio people rehearse their segment since the Closing Ceremony set won't even be set-up there.)

baron-pierreIV
Just feel pity for the performers not able to soak up the rest of the ceremony till the end That's kinda a small price to pay for having participated in it. But they know that at some point; and they can always bail out. As a volunteer, you can disengage your services any time if you don't like it. (They have alternates; and they always account for attrition.)

Kenadian
I was offered a part in the Vancouver Opening Ceremony, but had to drop out because the time commitment was too much for someone with a day job. But in my short period there, the people who giving of their time 1.) understood the requirements and 2.) were just so excited about being part of the show, it didn't matter to them that they weren't going to actually see it all. Besides, in this day of PVRs and YouTube, you'll get to see it all within an hour or two of the show ending. So I don't feel pity for them. They know what to expect and they are no doubt happy with their role.
baron-pierreIV
Just to add to that. When I was on Atlanta's OC cast, the opening crew (the 5 colored tribes) then became the track-tarp Uncovering crew. So while the magical moment of the Zeus temple sequence was happening, I/we couldn't really watch it live, even though we were on the same field because we were busily removing the covering on the track, to make it ready for those darn sons-of-a-gun athletes, working in the dark and then throwing it into the pit. I really hated that part of it...but no choice. That was the job designation. Do it or don't come back. And even if you're there, your section won't probably see the other parts, because you are either waiting in the corridors for for your cue; or you're hidden in some prop...so you'll never really see the whole thing until you get home and play the tape. The ushers and those section cheerleaders have the best part in terms of being able to watch the whole show w/o any stress or being sent home early.
