oakydoky
Oaky!! I love you n all, but ... yes, there is a but lol! Why can't/shouldn't this ceremony be more skewed towards a London/English centric vision?? I mean, the Olympics are happening in London, in England. Natually there should be aspects of the ceremony that incorporate the other UK nations, but I do not see it as unreasonable that London and England be heavily represented. I never said it shouldn't/wouldn't be. Please read my post again Michelle aswell as the following one. That quote you have of mine was in reference to a specific point made. Naturally, given the disparity is sizes within the UK etc there won't be an equal 25% split between all 4 home nations. I've never said there should be actually. pjpauly2k
Everyone seems to be talking about 'Jerusalem' as a natural song choice for this set. But whenever I hear them mention the last night of the proms I think of land of hope and glory. Dont you think this will be played or incorporated somehow? I love this song, and nothing feels more British to me than this! It would sound fantastic in the stadium I think. I also think this would suit the posh pit more by the way the audience do that stupid dance thing at the proms, lol
kevzz
Personally I feel it is such a shame if Jerusalem is not played in this 'green and pleasant labd' segment. If some parties might find the words too English centric, then just play the music then. The music is emotionally stirring enough and will be do wonderful if the opening shot begins with close up of the villagers minding their own things and Jerusalem music playing in the background. Think back to the handover in Beijing, there was hints of Jerusalem and Green selves, both are very English songs.

Jonafin
I just saw the stadium with the field in it! It looks amazing!! IMO London 2012 is shaping up to be a AWESOME show, the field reminds me of the opening from "The Vicar of Dibley" (I love the show). If only I lived in the UK and had the time to volunteer. Athensfan
I will say this (and it may provoke a bit of controversy), I love the landscape of the set and the idea of a tor. However, Glastonbury is so well-known as a hub of occult activity that I'm bothered to see it feature prominently in the OC. Perhaps it will not be specifically referenced as such and will just be treated as a generic hill instead (I'm glad it doesn't have the tower). I just don't like the idea of demonic influences coloring the opening of the Olympic Games.

Athensfan
Glastonbury is home to covens, Satanists and other occult groups who regard the Tor as "sacred" or ... I guess the opposite. I'm not sure what word they would use.

BethnalGreen
Sure. Saw them in person. Greek mythology is a far cry from the present-day occult. The tor pre-dates paganism etc and was a place where they celebrated British godesses. Not much difference to the Greeks really. It's also mythically the home of the fairies - are they demonic too? Ultimately, the issue here is that you have seen a report that some nutjobs have 'used' the site for activities that you disapprove of and therefore you call it demonic etc. The vast majority of us view it as a mythical site that has legends around King Arthur, fairies, you name it basicaly. All good things by the way and not perceived at all to be demonic. It wasn't set up for satanic rituals in history, it wan't used that way going though paganism, druids, etc. It was a celebration of mother earth more than anything. Just because you';ve read that a few people have used it (legally or illegally) for something dodgy does not make it an invalid object for us to celebrate surely? savas
Well this stage looks fantastic! I am quite irritated about this presentation... It was extremely detailed as they delete with this presentation a part of the surprise effect! Did we had such a detailed presentation of the stage before? I think the stage looks truly great and if the story is good then we will have an extraordinary ceremony. Random thoughts: - there is no Thames to see on this version of the stage so I suppose the stage will evolve to another version - it must as there is the need for place for the athletes right? The Tower Bridge Fox
I love that meadow so much I think they should re-assembly it in Victoria park after the opening ceremony so people can take a closer look, I’m also pleased to see Glastonbury feature as I always thought London 2012 could have used Glastonbury-esc branding. I'm not referring to the ancient history. I'm referring to present-day practices which I have been unfortunate enough to encounter in Glastonbury. I hope the hill will simply be a hill that is evocative and suggestive of the colorful past to which you refer. Do not be too angry with me for hoping the London OC will be free of evil influences. I want only the best for London's OC.

Athensfan
How so? You'll have to research that one for yourself. One is a dead mythology that was invented to explain the universe and has been long discarded. The other is a current practice dedicated to the service and harnessing of evil powers. Thats sort of a one dimensional way of looking at things isn't it? You'll have to explain what you mean. What's wrong with not wanting the Satanic rites that take place in Glastonbury to color the OC in any way?

FDLondon
What's wrong with not wanting the Satanic rites that take place in Glastonbury to color the OC in any way? Nothing except I think if you mentioned Glastonbury to the majority of the people in the UK, Satanic rite would be very very far down the list of responses you'd get. The festival - yes, the spirituality - yes, ancient Druids - yes. I think mud and wellies would both rank higher. Satanism is certainly something I'd never associate with the Tor.
