Opening Ceremony

Recommended Posts

Haha -- I know that these pictures are from Flickr, but I asked because I wanted to know whether hiroamorim is constantly scanning Flickr for such pictures. But now that question has been answered.

LOL sorry I misinterpreted the question

This guy's crazy..........

Imagining him welcoming the world at the begining of the games

"Welcome to the olympics in the year of 2012. God save the Queen..."

I'd find that nice and would give the ceremony a very distinct and truly British touch right from the start. But I doubt he will, since he said he can't disclose what he will shout in the ceremony. So I'd be really surprised that he practically disclosed it by those stunts for BBC.

What I find amazing is that he has to do that all over again and doesn't lose his voice, even at his age.

Generally speaking I'm not one of the people who thinks the stadium looks ugly (though I've never been a fan of those triangular floodlights) - but without the wrap I'm not really liking it in those night shots.

It looks less awe-inspiring compared with Beijing and will do even with the wrap I expect. But I've never thought much of Athens' stadium from the outside shots to be honest and think London's will better it once we have the wrap. The inside of Athens' Stadium is a different matter because I think that's stunningly beautiful.

But yeah, with London - three months out - we're still seeing the shell. There's 900m x 25m of cladding yet to go on it. That is going to have a massive transformative effect, how can it not?

Maybe the ceremony is just 4 men (one Irish, Scottish, Welsh and English) sitting around whinning and moaning about how each of the home nations is so hard done-by.

Sounds like the set up to a joke.

A Scotsman, an Irishman, a Welshman and an Englishman were at the OC and whining:

Jock: Och aye, they're all Sassenach robbers, they charged me two pence to wear my kilt here!

Paddy: To be sure, they charged me 10 quid for a half pint of Guinness!

Dayfydd: They wouldn't let me bring my leeks in, and charged me 100 quid to sing!

******

Who can come up with the best English punchline?

OMG James Bond will receive a mission from Queen Elizabeth to open the games at the very begining of the OC.

Here's an article about it:

Might not be an April Fool's joke as the article is dated April 2.

Yeah, I saw this yesterday, and refrained from posting it (well, I was requested not to) because I assumed it was a joke. But it's had a run in numerous sources now, so I'm not so sure any more.

But the original report by The Sun (to which also the news.com.au article links) is dated April 1st: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/bizarre/4232299/James-Bond-news-Daniel-Craig-has-been-invited-by-The-Queen-to-open-the-2012-Olympic-games.html

So I don't buy it. Just give the British media and especially the Sun a few more hours (it's 1 a.m. there now) to let the working day April 2 start and to let them reveal that it was just a well-plotted April Fools' joke. ;)

By the way: How does a parachuter want to land safely on the Olympic Stadium's infield when all that rigging is in the way (as one can see in the stadium thread)? It's a joke, folks.

The reports I read said it would be a filmed part of the opening, so that's still possible.

I'm still not convinced either way.

Hmmm. I can feel another OC film poster coming on .....

Yeah, but according to The Sun, the clip was filmed on Tuesday. And wasn't the rigging put up already then? Additionally, I think we would have gotten reports (at least via Twitter) much earlier if someone around the Olympic Stadium had spotted a helicopter dropping a parachuter off above the stadium. Something like that can't be kept secret in a densely populated city like London.
