I hope that the continent that does host the 2016 Summer Olympics and the Games of the XXXI Olympiad is Africa because an Olympics in Africa would help the continent a place where international sporting events can occur. The best African city I believe is Cape Town since South Africa has a good economy and infrastructure and the country is the host of the 2010 World Cup.

Yeah, for once I think the same as you  :)

NYC vs. Madrid in the final round could be great. NYC wins and then Madrid wins in 2020  :;):

North America - United Staes of America - New York - New York City  :unclesam:

Why not Chicago?

But aggree that N Am has the biggest chance of getting the Games

The reason that I think that the USOC will choose NYC is their experience in the Olympic bid race.

Plus, the mayor of Chicago is already requesting a domed stadium, and we all know what happened beforehand.

Uhmmm, someone's missing Antartica.  That is the white on the Olympic flag.

Er.. Baron, the colours on the Olympic flag do not represent continents, or land masses....(such as North America or Antartica)..rather each country is represnted by at least one of the colours on the flag.

Secondly, 2016

Should go to North America, no doubt the US with NYC being a stong candidate. Maybe Houston, Washington, San Fransico or Chicago...Toronto wont bid as there excellent plans from 2008 have been destroyed by development and the SKyDome proving to be a piece of ####. Mexico will hold a bluff for now.

Europe will put up a fight though things dont look good. Maybe Madrid again, Istanbul has indicated there in for another shot, Amsterdam maybe (the cities RAI will be the envy of all bids) and maybe Prague or Rome... Paris or Berlin dont look likely. Maybe a Munich warm-up bid. I dont see any strong eastern block bid except for Prague

From Asia, Japan and Moscow will bid. Japan being the biggest threat to the US.. Osaka, Tokyo, Kobe maybe? Which ever city is chosen it will finish 2nd. Moscow will die in a hole again. Bangkok and Dehli wont get past the short list. Dubai is unlikely to bid.

No bids from Africa. Nigeria will have the Commonwealths to worry about and South Africa will hold out until 2020. Eygpt, Morroco and Zimbabwe realise they cant win with the US and Japan in the race

South America will throw in Rio and maybe BA again. Santiago may go for a winter bid in 2018 so that counts out Chile and Havana wont bid.

Antartica, Mawson Station may throw a spanner into the works with Ross Olympic Stadium being the centrepiece. The IOC will mark them down becuase of their slippery basketball and handball surfaces (ice). The fact that there rowing centre is frozen over 99.9% of the year doesnt get them any bonuses either.

Australasia wont bid as it is to soon after Sydney and New Zealand will be in no financial position after a possible Rugby World Cup and redovelopment of Eden Park. Australia may be eyeing a Football World Cup and wont want the Games again.

1. Canada wont bid knowing that Toronto is fu*ed, so to Montreal and Vancouver's got the winters.

2. Japan's bid wont come from Sapporo, and maybe not Tokyo, more likely Osaka, Kyoto or Fukowokawkakakwakwa. Sapporo is to small and more of a winter city. Compared ot Osaka, Sapporo is arse. A "blank cheque" games from Japan may work in their favor

3. Nairobi, no way, not even if their Commonwealths bid fails.

4. Certainly, top3 i'd say

5. Possible, though there are other European candidates

6. New Dehli wont make it past the shortlist

7. Moscow, another "warm-up" i guess..there going to be the next Istanbul even though, really, there plans are excellent

8. Bangkok, same as Dehli

9. New York to flicker past the winning post with Tokyo hot on its heals carrying a large handicap and Madrid not far behind but with its jockey falling off the horse. I predict mega scandal in Mardid 2012!!!!

I agree with all your points....especially about Madrid....something tells me they got screwed over during the 2012 vote pretty badly

He did? I really think that if they're going to build a stadium from scratch which is the missing piece in their bid right now, it's like going back to NYC2012 the second time around. This time, it just could be more red tape. Remember, Chicago just built the most expensive football stadium in the country with Soldier Field.

That's why I believe, NYC is still the best choice for the USOC to grab the 2016 games. Most of the venues just need refurbishing, and its cheaper to tear down Shea and build an Olympic Stadium from it, bring it back to baseball configuration after the games, than building a new stadium from scratch. Even someone who despises the Mets don't want them to play at Yankee Stadium, I will accept it. As long as NYC gets the Games.

That's why it's killing me right now hearing nothing about NYC's intentions. I just hope our City bids again. I'm pretty confident this is their best chance.

Will New Yorks 2012 Olympic Village site still be vancant or useable for a 2016 bid? Or is it set for development already? That was really the centre-peice of the bid and without it, i think the bid lacks a little glitz... IMO

No one really knows what's happening with NYC's intentions right now. But, there have been some snippets here and there about NYC2012's venues. There have been some talk about the Olympic Village being sold to a number of developers. But, without a clear investor in that piece of land, it will still be available until NYC decides its own fate for 2016.

The Fresh Meadows/Flushing/Corona sports complex is vast enough that if NYC decides to build a village in the same olympic park it was previously planned for NYC2012, then it will truly be an Olympic Park for NYC. It will very impossible for the USOC to resist NYC if everything is approved and/or in place.

Queens Borough President Helen Marshall wanted the Jets to build a stadium as part of the Flushing Meadows Sports Complex. She really wants to bring the Olympics to New York.

She wants NYC to bid again, so the Olympic Stadium would be in the Complex.

I agree, if everything works out as we hope, it'll be hard for the USOC not to choose New York again.
