Is there already some detailled information about a bid from Dubai or Chicago? Venues?

In Chicago, Mayor Richard Daley is planning to initiate a feasibility committee to look into a 2016 bid.

Although he has listed the names of some venues, the distance from Chicago makes them unlikely to be part of the bid plan.

And I still have not heard from Dubai, aaron.

Dubai won't bid... They don't have infraestructure or enough security nowadays... Dubais is a turistic resort, not a city for sport.

There exists anything in the news from March 2004. Let´s wait until the Asian Games in Doha. Dubai is only one city on a long list of possible bid cities. They have the finance and infrstructure to host the Games. In case of security etc. they have to do much more if they want to be a serious candidate for 2016.

Zenica, you just don't get it _ it's not just security. They have just NOT expressed any interest in bidding for it!! They are not going to bid just because you would like them to. Even if by some strange chance they did bid, THEY WILL NOT win _ as has been pointed out here, there are too many problems _ lack of sports culture (which the IOC does want from a host), their appalling record regarding women's sport. Antarctica would have a better chance at the moment.

Would any other city from the middle east be capable of making a solid bid?

Perhaps Doha - Qatar? It will be interesting how they manage to handle the 2006 Asian Games.

At least their sporting power is more impressive, than from the UAE. And if they haven't got it, they buy it!!!!

Rogge said that a candidate from US is very welcomed for 2016. He named three candidates: LA, Chicago and San Francisco. There are also several other candidates like Rome, Milano, Delhi, Madrid, Rio and a Japanese city. A group of African and European executives has found an organisation to support a bid of an African country for 2016. (see GamesBids news of today)

Z, we can all read what the news reports say.  You do not have to paraphrase them.  And you don't have to hang on to every word, every comma that the likes of what Rogge, Blatter or Platini have to say.

He says "LA, Chicago, San Francisco."  So what?  Those may not be the final choice(s) of the USOC, which is the presenting entity.

All other candidates are also welcomed. But for me Chicago is one of the favorites for the US race.

It's not even a race yet.

How are you predicting a favorite already?

And those Chicago pictures are huge and annoying. They take too long to load.

Rogge also wanted Paris to win and, what happened in Singapore?: Paris didn't lead any round! :laughlong:

OK, Z, about this Dubai image you are fixated on...

1.  It's a 'helipad,' but they use it as a tennis court?  So they must land their choppers then on the regular 'tennis courts'?    Why?

2.  This is a city -- using helipads for tennis courts and vice-versa -- you want to host an Olympics?  What do they do with their swimming pools -- drinking water tanks or fish ponds; and swim in the fish tanks?  Oyyyy.   Must be the heat.

There are always favorites like Barcelona, Atlanta, Sidney (instead of Athens), Athens (instead of Beijing) so I would not be surprised when after London we will see Paris in 2016. I think there should be a change of the system.

For the Baron: a real swimming pool, no fish bassin. From his most "loved" city...
