What I found on internationalgames.net is this... "San Antonio preparing for PASO meeting April 16, 2004 The Pan American Sport Organization (PASO) will meet in San Antonio, Texas next week, with the PASO executive committee meeting April 19-20, and the PASO general assembly meeting April 21-23. The US Olympic Committee has invited representatives from all nine of the cities bidding for the 2012 Olympic Games to attend the meetings. Members of the San Antonio Sports Foundation say they are still interested in the city of San Antonio pursuing a bid for the 2011 Pan American Games, a decision that will probably be made sometime in the summer of 2006. The Texas State Legislature in June of last year amended a bill that was first enacted in 1999, that provides legislative support for any bid for the Olympic or Pan American games by any Texas city with a population over 850,000. The original 1999 bill gave specific support for a 2007 Pan American Games bid. The amendment changed the bill to read that the legislature supports a Texas city bidding for the 2011 Pan American Games. The bill also continues a Pan American Games Trust Fund that was established in 1999. The measure also requires that the state comptroller provide an estimate of the amount of money that would be in the Pan American Games trust fund to any committee bidding for a games, so that they can use that figure when applying to host a games. The Texas House of Representatives voted 126 to 0, with two abstentions, in favor of the measure." So, how can you say Guadalajara has it all sewn up?

San Antonio is awsome!!!!! they can have it relly easy. but this is guadalajara 2nd time arround, tath might help them get it. dont now.

The reason why I think there could possibly be a Dubai 2016 bid is because the city is no longer interested in the 2014 Asian Games, so could they be aiming higher and going for an olympic bid instead? It's thought that cape town is not bidding for the 2014 Commonwealth games because they could be possibly planning a 2016 SOG bid instead. Dubai and Cape Town could be thinking/ acting along similar lines.

Also Madrid will almost certainly bid as will either Rome or Milan - these two European cities would definitely make the shortlist though stand little chance of winning this time. Also if Sochi wins Winter 2014 then Moscow could be discounted from bidding. Has Toronto shown any intention of considering a bid for 2016 - they would almost certainly fail due to the fact Vancouver 2010 would only be a few months away.

IMO, this isn't the right time for a Toronto bid, especially when the decision will be made less than a year before the Vancouver Games.

Salt Lake City is in the United States, even without any bribery rightly or wrongly the US has benefited in the past from a "privileged" position due to corporate sponsorship and possibly the success of their athletes and the success of Los Angeles '84, this is not the case in Canada. When Canada was awarded the Winter Games for 2010 it postponed any chance for Toronto for at least 12 years. If the US is, as expected, awarded one of the next two Summer Games the first opportunity for a Canadian city will be 2024 at the earliest but more likely 2028, especially if a new frontier manages to be successful - as it will no doubt return to Europe once more and probably Asia before returning to North America again. If the campaign for the 2012 Games and the candidate cities that have already shown interest in 2016 are anything to go by the competition for future Olympics will consist of a shortlist of cities all capable of staging a phenomenal Games. Therefore countries that have only recently staged an Olympics of any kind are going to be at a disadvantage because they face equally capable candidate countries that haven't hosted an Olympics for decades or haven't hosted an Olympics ever - the IOC will almost certainly be more sympathetic to those countries than one preparing to host a Winter Games awarded six years before.
dave199 Posted March 3, 2006 Report Posted March 3, 2006 Toronto mayor supports a World Expo bid over an Olympic bid. Toronto is currently bidding for the 2015 World Expo. Unless we elect a new mayor this Fall 2006, who is in support for a Toronto Olympic bid at the current moment, Toronto will not be bidding for the 2016 Olympics. Even though I'd rather have Toronto put their name into the mix again for the 2016 Summer games, it doesn't look like it will happen. The city will most definately bid for 2020 Olympics pending the USA 2016 bid.
Guardian Posted March 5, 2006 Report Posted March 5, 2006 Even though Expomuseum.com states that Toronto's Expo 2015 bid is "more developed" than the ones competing against it, it doesn't mean that it will win. Wasn't the last 2 times the city bid for the World's Fair were basically in the same scenario and it still lost both times? This goes the same for both the 1996 and 2008 bids for the Olympic Games. If the USOC does put forth a bid for the 2016 Olympic Games, it doesn't mean that Toronto and the COC cannot do the same. However, some Canadians are resigned that it would be a futile attempt to bid for it because of some factors some of us have put down in these forums already.
