I'd never heard of this Euro Olympic Youth Festival... but was surprised we actually have threads about this EYOF. Anyway, just wanted to post the pic of the horrible mascot:

April 25 - Alpy the marmot has been unveiled as the official mascot for the 2015 European Youth Winter Olympic Festival (EYOF) in Austria and Liechtenstein.

Announced today during a press conference at the Higher Technical Institute (HTL) in the Austrian city of Dornbirn, the mascot was designed by students at the textile, clothing and technology branch of the institute as Festival organisers continue their efforts to work in cooperation with young people across the two nations.

"The marmot represents our regions perfectly and will ensure that the event, which takes place from January 25 to 30 2015 in Liechtenstein and Vorarlberg, will have a great atmosphere," said Philipp Groborsch, chief executive of the 2015 EYOF.

"The name is derived from the word 'Alps' and 'Y' presenting the youth of the Youth Olympic Festival.

"It also includes the initials of the host countries Austria and Liechtenstein."

The initiative was led by project manager Oscar Tschallener alongside HTL Dornbirn director Herbert Hug, who was pleased at the successful cooperation between the institute and EYOF 2015.

"The school is proud to make a contribution to the successful implementation of the Youth Festival with the development of the mascot," he said.

"Our students have been able to combine theory and practice in valuable ways."

In relation to the mascot, Austrian Olympic Committee secretary general Peter Mennel, added: "Alpy embodies the characteristics of the Vorarlberg and Liechtenstein, marmots are industrious and active!

"In terms of preparation, the work is in full swing.

"The Youth Olympic Games 2012 in Innsbruck were highly successful and in Montafon we are also planning a cheerful, high class event, full of colour, which will take place in just 275 days' time."

Designing the mascot is not the only project by students at HTL Dornbirn with 40 budding computer scientists, under the direction of Professor Michael Leeb, set to take over the on-site IT support during the event.

The EYOF is also working in collaboration with other educational institutes, with HTL Bregenz set to design the Festival's torch and HTL Rankweil working on the award podium.

It is set to take place January 25 to 30 2015 and will see participants from 49 countries compete across eight sporting disciplines.
