It doesn't really matter anyway as we all know that in any case bid book renders are always different from the eventual venues.

Yeah, totally. I am just talking about bid details. Everything the bids spit out is filtered through hindsight that these are just plans to get the IOC swayed.

Jim, I have to say that that's a very interesting idea! i really like it!

It wouldn't work. The field is too small, and is a bad location for such a huge venue. People would also flip out about Grant Park having such a huge venue.

Hutchinson Field (where Obama gave his speech), is not large enough for an Olympic Stadium, and would basically shut down the downtown area. It would also pose more security and logistical issues. There were enough concerns when Obama staged his rally there... as of the last I checked, the archery venue is planned to be in Hutchinson Field, which should work perfectly.

There is also this rule about no new buildings in Grant Park. An Olympic stadium would cause people to riot.

what says you have to actually have a permanent Stadium for the Opening Ceremonies ? Where London 2012 is building what is a tier for 55,000 that could even be permanent Stadium if they did not tear down that post games. There are ways of doing huge stands with environmental impacts . Montreal did it ever year for the Canadian Grand Prix. Leyner Scaffolding , an Urban park Setting and you could have a unique Opening Ceremonies.

Now that would stop the Show for Chicago.

I never posted anything negative about Chicago's use of a temporary stadium. I simply stated Hutchinson Field would not be the best location for the stadium.

I hear yah . that is no problem because I think what you might have thought with what I was saying was to install a new stadium in the downtown park Barrack Obama gave his victory speech in.

I am thinking of something like this that was done for the Rolling Stones in Halifax Nova Scotia

http://static.panoramio.com/photos/original/1915225.jpg

Stageco does the Temporary staging for the Olympics and also had staging work with the Rolling Stones. The Grandstands in the picture were from a separate company from Ontario but basically the same parts as the stage.

Of course my though on a Temporary Ceremonies venue is on a scale that could have 80000 seats which is not a ground breaking construction job in regards to Leyner Scaffolding, Montreal has done it for decades with the Canadian Grand Prix with 100,000 plus for seating . The stuff has been around for ever and what does an opening and closing ceremonies require for the Floor ? It does not require the IAAF tartan track as those have been covered over in the last couple of Games openings.

The Turf wasn't even in the Main stadium at Athens while the Opening ceremonies were going on . Overnight it was brought in with forklifts as it was a turf in Tray System with ITM Greentech of Georgia. It is all advance logistical planning of course .
