Well, while i'm afraid we're going to have a Zakumi 3.0, at least they didn't went for a Bear. That would had ben too predictable. Personally wise, I think I like the cat the most. The color scheme seems to fit the most with the brand of this WC and i like the star details on his fur, possibly referencing Russia relevance on the Space race.

In Facebook, seems like the wolf is taking the lead in the race by a big margin.

Wolf is also leading in Youtube comments although if you look at the Russian version of the video somehow many Russians are confused with the disappearance of bear in this contest...

How will the allocations for each region will be set up for a 48-team tournament? With at least 40 teams in this proposal, Oceania has to have an automatic spot (really the All-Whites assuming Tahiti, Fiji, and New Caledonia won't shock). After all, it DOES hold a spot in the Confederations Cup.

This is the wrong thread for this as it won't be 2018 it happens.

But it's stupid anyway. So teams are supposed to book hotels, training bases and travelling fans are expected to travel half way around the world as usual, but for a third of the teams all this effort will be for a single match,:huh:

There are so many things broken in FIFA. The way the world cup works isn't one of them.

It seems that in real life form the Wolf turned out to be disappointing compared to other choices for me..

But still it's a fine victory for the Wolf..

Draw procedures of the Official Draw confirmed

The Organising Committee met at the Kazan Tennis Academy and approved the draw procedures of the Official Draw for the FIFA Confederations Cup.

The show, which will unveil the road to the coveted trophy of the Tournament of Champions, will take place at the same venue on Saturday 26 November and will be conducted by FIFA’s Deputy Secretary General for Football, Zvonimir Boban, and Chief Competitions & Events Officer, Colin Smith. They will be assisted by five-time Russian Premier League winner Sergei Semak and two-time Olympic gold medallist Yelena Isinbaeva.

Hosts Russia and the three top teams based on the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking released earlier today (Germany, Chile and Portugal) will be in Pot 1, with the next four teams (Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and the African contender to be known in February) in Pot 2. They will then be drawn one by one into two groups – A and B – and their position within Groups A and B will be determined by drawing balls from the respective group pots. A full explanation of the draw procedures can be found at the top of the related items on the right-hand side of this article.

At the same meeting, the Organising Committee members also approved the tournament’s regulations, which are now also available on FIFA.com. These regulations come into force with immediate effect, subject to the approval of the FIFA Council on 10 January 2017.

Russian MPs accuse Fifa 17 video game of 'gay propaganda'

Developer EA Sports backed a campaign in the UK to combat homophobia, biphobia and transphobia in football.

Russian MPs have asked the state communications oversight agency to take action against the Fifa 17 video game for violating the country’s law against gay propaganda.

Communist MPs sent a letter to the communications oversight and state consumer protection agencies complaining that the popular EA Sports football game, which is rated all ages, “invites users to support the English football premier league’s Rainbow Laces action, a massive campaign in support of LGBT”, Izvestia newspaper reported.

According to the 2013 law, such propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations can cause “harm to children’s health and development”, the letter said.

The UK-based LGBT rights group Stonewall began the Rainbow Laces campaignlast month to combat homophobia, biphobia and transphobia in football, noting that 72% of fans had heard anti-LGBT remarks at games over the past five years. Premier League matches and social media platforms have featured materials from the campaign.

EA Sports also backed the campaign by allowing Fifa 17 players to obtain free rainbow-coloured uniforms for their virtual footballers in the game’s ultimate team mode. This action expired on 28 November.

Nonetheless, parliamentarians suggested Fifa 17 could be banned in Russia. United Russia MP Irina Rodnina, a former figure skater who won three Olympic gold medals for the Soviet Union, told Izvestia that the authorities needed to “verify the possibility of distributing this game on the territory of the Russian Federation”.

“Every state has its internal laws and order; they need to be obeyed,” she said.

Communist MP Valery Rashkin told Izvestia that, following the investigation, the authorities should order the game’s developer, EA Canada, to “introduce changes to the programming code or the age classification of this information product, and if it refuses, adopt corresponding restrictive measures”.

In October, the communications oversight agency blacklisted the website of Deti 404, a group that posts messages of support by and for LGBT teenagers. Communist MPs introduced legislation in 2015 to fine or jail anyone who comes out or speaks of their homosexuality in public.

Has there been any news on stadium construction? For all the concerns we have of how little we have found about Pyeongchang's venues, I haven't seen anything from Russia's WC stadiums. Then again, Russia has been in the news for months for anything but the world cup lol

Get ready for FOX Sports' maiden FIFA (men's) World Cup coverage as "the biggest sports production in its 24-history" with 350 hours next summer from Russia, more specifically mostly from a two-story studio at Moscow's famed Red Square with FOX getting "more than half" of the 64 matches, at least 34 matches that's more than the total number aired which is “more than the last four World Cups combined” on English-language TV with ESPN/ABC, unprecedented in US TV history, with the World Cup including (likely all of) Team USA's matches (they'll likely qualify directly from the CONCACAF Hexagonal), the FIFA-mandated over-the-air Final,  the opening ceremony and the WC-opening first game with Russia in Group A at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium, and possibly the third place game. The rest will head towards FS1 that will have in addition 30 online streams and VR platforms. If proved wrong on a few cases. All starting at 5am US/Canada/Mexico CT with the Kate Abdo-hosted World Cup Today. And to think back when FOX Sports first got the rights several years ago, Gus Johnson was tipped to serve as its anchor sportscaster there--and he admitted to not knowing much about soccer:

Verizon (halftime) and Volkswagen (postgame) sign on as FOX 2018 World Cup broadcasting sponsors. Adidas and Coca-Cola are likely to join (we can also see Visa, McDonald's, and Anheuser-Busch joining too). Interestingly we could see the introduction of the split-screen format and the 6-second commercial format, if FIFA approves both:

This Sports Illustrated article adds to what's already mentioned with FOX's planned coverage by having that game times will be at 7am, 10am, and 1pm CT that will no doubt get major digital consumption during the World Cup that includes daily daytime and late night coverage, along with Russians Kirill Richter and DJ Rudenko providing the music, the National Geographic partnership, and the 15 original series on FOX Sports Go to go along with a company record 450-person team to Russia for this massive project. FOX also aims to schedule an on-camera interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who many Americans surely have an opinion of these days, done by a FOX Sports reporter:

Way to jinx that one there

After the US lost to T&T, Fox seemed to temper their expectations somewhat.  Since then, sounds like fewer people may be headed to Russia and there might be even more games on big Fox to offset the hit that the US not qualifying will do for ratings.
