AustralianFan Posted December 1, 2021 Report Posted December 1, 2021 This WC stadium in Qatar made of shipping containers: Quote
SportLightning Posted December 2, 2021 Report Posted December 2, 2021 This is nuts on this venue to be dismantled after the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar next year. Quote

Not surprising. It was pre-planned that way. What else will you do with an 8th stadium in a country of only 2.6 million? Or they could turn into a little town for Afghan refugees . . . at great expense. Quote

It's not gonna be easy for the national teams to travel on the way to Qatar as we have 13 nations have already qualified to the FIFA World Cup are: Qatar (Host) Germany Denmark Brazil France Belgium Croatia Spain Serbia England Switzerland Netherlands and Argentina. January next month will see more teams to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup before the 2026 edition in Canada, Mexico and USA. Quote
baron-pierreIV Posted December 6, 2021 Report Posted December 6, 2021 /\/\ The usual suspects. So what else is new? Quote
iceman530 Posted December 6, 2021 Report Posted December 6, 2021 well one of Italy or Portugal certainly will not be there. That's at least worth the raise of an eyebrow. Quote
AustralianFan Posted December 6, 2021 Report Posted December 6, 2021 Another look at one of the stadiums - this one resembling a giant tent with a drive-up ramp like you see at airport terminal departures Quote
SportLightning Posted December 7, 2021 Report Posted December 7, 2021 That venue: the Al Bayt Stadium already opened during the FIFA Arab Cup last month. Quote
Comped Posted January 18, 2022 Report Posted January 18, 2022 So besides the one stadium that's a guaranteed tear down, what's happening with the rest? Are we going to see half the QSL get fancy new stadiums? Quote

Initially Qtar said all except the renovated Khalifa Stadium would be fitted with temporary seating that would be removed and donated to countries lacking in football stadia infrastructure, but that was a pipe dream just like holding the WC in the summer with air conditioned stadiums. If nothing else, this tournament puts to bed the often proposed concept of a temporary stadium to solve the athletics stadium issue in the Summer Olympics. It's a proven failed concept. Quote

I suppose if anyone got dibs on them then, as I said, it would probably be the qsl teams, whichever ones have older stadiums or perhaps to make them to share them all... Would be better than them just sitting empty, unless Qatar thinks that they can retrofit some of them for a future Olympic bid. Quote
SportLightning Posted January 19, 2022 Report Posted January 19, 2022 There's right now only 10 months away to the start of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Quote
SportLightning Posted January 22, 2022 Report Posted January 22, 2022 Here's the final round of African Qualifiers. It's going to be kind of like a play-off round. Only 5 will make it to Qatar 2022. My Prediction for the African representatives: Cameroon, Mali, Morocco, Nigeria and Senegal. Mali could possibly make their FIFA World Cup debut if they beat Tunisia. Quote
stryker Posted March 1, 2022 Report Posted March 1, 2022 FIFA lobbying Qatari officials to allow sale of alcohol at 2022 FIFA World Cup (insidethegames.biz) I'd be shocked if this actually happens. IMO FIFA those numbers in the check they have to write to Budweiser to cover the losses due to the advertising of alcohol being illegal in Qatar are starting to jump out at them. Quote

Brazil doesn't have culturally conservative Muslim sheikhs watching over all aspects of society. Brazil's decision to not have alcohol initially was over safety concerns. Qatar's issues relate to conservative Islam. I've lived in the Gulf and many will tell you that Qatar is far more conservative than the likes of the UAE, Bahrain, or Oman. So no, I don't think FIFA will be able to make Qatar change their laws. The clerics have too much influence. Quote

Wonder how much cultural shock, for all the good and bad reasons, will play out in this world cup. Quote

It could, it justs depends on Qatar's Travel for one the world safest countries which has the lowest crime rates. Quote

Saudi Arabia being the only Arab country more conservative then Qatar. I'd never travel there. Quote

Qatar hasn't done that before and will be the first time the country hosted. That's a difference between the two countries with their heritage from both South America and Asia. Also guys, Final draw is tomorrow. Quote
AliciasBlade Posted April 1, 2022 Report Posted April 1, 2022 And the mascot will be revealed tomorrow too. 1 Quote
