baron-pierreIV
As an Englishman, I don't really understand American Politics, so I don't know what Liberals stand for. The Party I support is the Labour Party over here. Could you explain the basic's of Liberal's views please, and then I can relate. Thanks. Liberal is opposite of conservative and they tend to embrace and support the less restrictive confines of social issues. U could also look it up on the internet. You post many msgs, I am sure you can take the time to do a little online research.

baron-pierreIV
So are you a Liberal or Conservative? Also, what is a Democrat and a Republican? This is NOT about me. All I'll say is that I am greatly middle of the road. This is about you and your unrealistic ideas of trying to change deepset ways in other cultures and then tying that to sports-hosting duties. Sometimes it'll work, but for Russia and some Islamic countries, it won't.

I agree with SOME of their policies, but I agree with some Conservative Policies. Over here, I agree with 90 per cent of Labour's policies, and the other 10 per cent I don't want to say. Roger87
What I understand from Roger's post is not so much about the issues at hand (literally) but more the ambiguoity in branding one nation a fit host, and another not one. Admittedly I have similar reservations to Tony about Qatar 2022, but Roger's point can extent to the attitude many Westerners (particularly English speakers) have towards difference. "Other countries do it" - While I wouldn't have voted for Qatar on its human rights issues alone, its clear that a precedence has been set - and where do we draw the line? What is acceptable rights? Should these organisations be following international agreement on such issues, and which ones? Its all a grey area. FIFA probably needs to take responsibility for its own powerful influence and began to engage more with organisations like the IOC has done. Exactly my point, thank you. It's not like defending the FIFA, but these events have many grey areas to determinate which one is right and which one is not. Also another point in consideration is always the dilemma: "The sovereignity of the State vs. the universality of the rights". Baron explained all. In a perfect world, the human rights are universal and all the minorities have legal and political protection. Unfortunally we're not living like that. We have many grey areas to pull off the efforts.
Quaker2001
Here's my thing about the human rights issues on this one.. we can all talk about China's track record on human rights or Russia's LGBT law and the like and say we don't know where to draw the line. Well, in Qatar, people are very literally dying as a result of their construction efforts. So what's going to happen when they need to build nearly a dozen large-scale stadiums to host the World Cup? We're not talking construction accidents here. So what is happening (and what will happen) in Qatar is going to be a direct result of FIFA awarding them the 2022 World Cup. In essence, there is blood on their hands. THAT is where we need to draw the line. What's been going on in China didn't get better or worse (presumably) as an effect of awarding them the Olympics. As much as the IOC preached about that being important to them, it came and went and that was it. Qatar has a problem that FIFA is most definitely going to be making worse. That's the difference between them being awarded a World Cup and Russia being awarded an Olympics.
Athensfan
Also, what is a Democrat and a Republican? Who is in power in the UK now, the Republicans or the Democrats? How will London celebrate the 4th of July this year? Who will be queen after Elizabeth? And how many Queen Elizabeth's have there been? I'm incapable of researching any of these topics. Please answer my questions for me.

I have been trolled online before, so I wouldn't troll.
yoshi
Ummm, Charles is next in line to the throne, followed by William. AFAIK, the monarch's spouse doesn't appear at all in the line, not to mention how unlikely it is that Phillip will outlive QE2 anyway. Tony E Loves Architecture
Frankly its warranted. Still think we're all being trolled by some demented weirdo. It has all the ingredients. As far as I am concerned, YOU are the troll. You wrongly accuse me of being a troll, with the purpose to get people to gang up on me. Just in case you don't know, a Troll is someone who spams delibertly, bullies or discriminates. I have never Discriminated anyone or bullied anyone. Yes I did post alot at the start, but it wasn't my intention to hurt anyone's feelings. I didn't realise that there was a limit. Also I was new. I have been on here 3 Weeks now and calmed down on posting. I used to post 30 a day, now I post round about 10 a day, which is about the same amount that Baron posts. Lord David sometimes posts that aswell. I am not a troll. I have personally been bullied on the internet in the past, so I would never bully on the Internet as I know how hurtful it is. I just want to be accepted on here, as my interests are the same as all of you. Please just let me be me, and stop picking out bad points about me. I am improving so please be more accepting to people who are fairly new. Thanks. Tony E.
yoshi
So to clarify, Charles will be the next king, unless he dies before Elizabeth, or passes up the throne, in which case William will become king. I don't think you are a troll BTW.
alphacarter
Yoshi's right, Phillip's not a king, he married Liz after she was crowned. Hence, he's not a king at all. When Liz dies, it's onto Charles.
