rav3n
The PASO has aproved finaly an official Pan American Anthem, composed by mexican composer Miguel Angel Gonzales Alfaro. You can download the choral version here: http://www.odepapaso.org/himno/himno_coral.zip And the instrumental version here: http://www.odepapaso.org/himno/himno_instrumental.zip Which means that finaly, on ceremonial aspects, we will not hear the olympic anthem anymore but an own anthem of those games (the Asian Games premiered their anthem at Bangkok 1998), so is most likely we will hear this at Guadalajara 2011 ceremonies. For long time the Pan Am Games ceremonies used the olympic anthem as well for the raising of the olympic flag (somes like Caracas 1983 and Indianapolis 1987 had ''anthems'' but they were never declared official) because they lacked an official hymn, until now. PD: This was actualy a couple of months ago, but i bet some people didnt knew LYRICS (the english part is just a direct translation of the original so is not an official english version): “ODEPA” ORGANIZACIÓN DEPORTIVA PANAMERICANA HIMNO Que las voces de América ungidas se confronten en plena unidad integrando sus manos fundidas en un marco de honor y amistad.

Well just as long as it can be translated into English , French and Portuguese . I know the Spanish Language is certainly dominate in many places in the Americas but we can't forget the Caribbean , Canada , Brazil and the United States for inclusion . DannyelBrazil
Spanish is dominant in Central America and Caribbean... In the North America English is dominant, and South America Portuguese is spoken by 53% of its habitants... Double shame on Raña, btw PanAms would be better without him. Ikarus360
Does anyone know if the Olympic anthem is still used at the Asian Games? No. They use the Olympic Council of Asia Anthem since the mid 90's. It's an instrumental melody without lyrics, here's the current version of it as heard in Guangzhou 2010 and Astana 2011. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnp3FIJpDjo

It's a lousy piece -- all bombastic notes and no softness nor majesty whatsoever. I wonder who composed it. For Atlanta 1996, I had actually composed a hymn, The MagnfiCentennial Games Hymn...but of course, ACOG stuck with the more famous composer, David Foster, and his predictable POWER OF THE DREAM. intoronto
The Olympic anthem should be used.
Ikarus360
The Olympic anthem should be used. I believe the IOC wanted them to use a personal anthem instead of the olympic one which should be used at the actual Olympics.
