SOlympiadsW Posted June 21, 2005 Report Posted June 21, 2005 I remember reading a while back that only Premium Members at GB.com will be allowed to post in the time surronding the 2012 decision, and that everyone else could read, but not post.....when will this go into effect? Also, just out of curiosity which Premium Members plan on being here on the time around the 2012 bid decision?
bigdavejb Posted June 21, 2005 Report Posted June 21, 2005 It depends what time GMT it is? Seb Coe said they are going to put giant screens in Trafalgar square to watch the draw live. As I am on a night shift if its early enough I will watch it there before work otherwise I will be in front of my computer if possible watching any available web cast.
its a bid of magic Posted June 21, 2005 Report Posted June 21, 2005 Let us non-premium members know when you are going to make it premium members only posting... I want to be able to make my one last rallying cry, for my favoured City. Not that it will probably do any good, but hey ho.
Michelle Posted June 21, 2005 Author Report Posted June 21, 2005 Ill be in Croatia during the July 6 vote, so please, don't miss me too much.
Sir Rols Posted June 21, 2005 Report Posted June 21, 2005 I think the notion was that the board would switch over to premium members sometime before the point when the board starts filling up and the number of postings start putting the system at risk off crashing (as happened during the Athens Opening Ceremony). In other words, GM probably doesn't have a definite switchover time in mind, but it's likely to happen sometime close to the big moment. I'll probably be one of the ones an watch here on the board _ the result won't be televised here in Oz, so it'll be my main quick source to find the decision. If I'm at work when the decision is announced, I'll probably know straight away from the news agency wires services as well.
bigdavejb Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 As Singapore is GMT+8 and London is at present GMT+1 for British summer time the draw should be about 12.30 in the afternoon here. So I will prop go into town and watch it on one of the big screens in central London before work so I can enjoy the atmosphere. I doubt I will have time to post on the result for some time after especially as we have a Mega celebrity function at the venue were I work so my computer time will be severely limited.
Guardian Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 Thank goodness that I will be around at the computer and the TV, when the decision is made. I can only hope that the website doesn't go out of whack and can handle the load.
arwebb Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 Maybe this move is causing, or at least exacerbating, the current atmosphere?
BethnalGreen Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 As a premium member, I won't even be able to benefit as I can't post from work. I will try and get home early though so I can post my thoughts. I expect that they will 'switchover' about two hours before?? I will be online on GB though at work reading everybody else's posts...

With office ethics and e-mailing protocols nowadays in the workplace, I think you may want to be careful here.
SOlympiadsW Posted June 24, 2005 Report Posted June 24, 2005 Also, for some of you who have been here for several of the past races ...how quickly will the separate forums for the 2012 cities be deleted, and the 2012 winner put down with the others, and the 2014 Applicant cities be put up?...I was here for this several times but can not remember how fast it was done.... wow it is weird to think in a little over two weeks we will be switching oevr to WOG mode lol

JDPinstripes Posted June 25, 2005 Report Posted June 25, 2005 Ill be in Croatia during the July 6 vote, so please, don't miss me too much. I'm sure you'll find the nearest Internet Cafe and sign on just to bash America if New York doesn't win....

Remember, with the forum changes involved, don't forget about the next Olympic race section that GBModerator has to put in here as well: the 2014 Olympic Winter Games section. He has to figure out what that race is going to be like and change the sections accordingly. Of course, it will be a short one because not many cities will bid for it, but there will be enough of them that a couple of sub-sections could be implemented.
SOlympiadsW Posted June 28, 2005 Report Posted June 28, 2005 so even if non-Premium Members can not post, will the site still be very sluggish as it was for Athens 2004? Will it help though significantly with just a small number of people being allowed to post?....also I am starting to notice over the last week a pick up in the amount of posts and posters...has anyone else noticed this?....I guess this is nothign compared to how it will be a week from now lol....
SOlympiadsW Posted June 29, 2005 Report Posted June 29, 2005 well you can definately say that posting and visitors are increasing...afetr seeing today how almost the whole 2012 section has posts made today...I am guessing that this weekend this will really start getting high....

Sorry, i will not be in front of my laptop at the time of the announcement ! I will be at the city hall... waiting.....
SOlympiadsW Posted June 30, 2005 Report Posted June 30, 2005 and I'll be in Rockefeller Center probably 9I just learned this today)...with my lap top
Guardian Posted June 30, 2005 Report Posted June 30, 2005 I wonder if GBModerator is now taking steps to ready this website for the onslaught in less than a week.
SOlympiadsW Posted June 30, 2005 Report Posted June 30, 2005 I hope so...I don't want the forums to go down again like last year
Guardian Posted July 1, 2005 Report Posted July 1, 2005 I hope so...I don't want the forums to go down again like last year Fortunately, for me, I was too busy watching the show to log on here. Never mind that I had to go to work right after it.
