Sugar-coated Paris is too clean for words

Recommended Posts

When Paris's Olympic credentials were last put under the microscope during the city's ultimately unsuccessful bid to host the 2008 Games, the International Olympic Committee's evaluation report included a warning that "Paris experiences brief periods of excessive air pollution, primarily due to certain combinations of transport emission levels and weather conditions".

Now a fresh wind is blowing down the Champs Elysées. Last week saw the publication of an evaluation report of the 2012 candidate cities so glowing in its praise of the French capital that even the pollution has apparently disappeared. Either Paris has cleaned up its act or, as some are beginning to suspect, the soap has been applied by the IOC hierarchy.

What's the point about pointing out such hypocrisy?

Doesn't it seem just as strange to you that the very 2008 evaluation report that "warned" about Paris' pollution problems, is the very same report that "sugar coated" Beijing polluted mess (the most polluted out of the 5 cities that were bidding for the 2008 Games)?

Hypocrisy is just an everyday thing in the IOC relm. Seems pointless.

i find it insulting being called a rosbif?? ( i think he mean roast beef.)  Do you think your nationalist ideas will help Paris win the olympics.  By posting these ignorant, idiotic statements full with lies you can be olny harming Paris' bid and boosting London's.  Keep showing your country up with this nonsense if you wish it doesn't help your cause.

I would add even futher that I have always thought being called a 'rosbif' rather amusing and in no way insulting.  At least it is not insulting as  'frog' - you have to think of it that way.  So when you are called a rosbif think of it with PRIDE!!!!

They are just, like we are, thinking of what the nation eats for God's sake!!!!!

There is an interesting story behind why the British call the French "frogs":

The area of Paris called the Marais (or swamp), located now in the area to the east, used to be the place where the poor people wallowed in dirt and filth. Their hygiene was non-existent and they were known by the people of Paris as "les grenouilles", or the frogs.

During the Anglo-French conflicts in the 19th century, in order to insult the French people as a whole, the British labelled the entire French nation as the frogs!

Maybe, but I just don't think there's a need for that kind of nonsense. There's enough of it here as it is.

You know what, i have been thinking the same, always comes down to childish insults and dreged up history between different nations, spin, statistics and lies.

Will still read the news items on GamesBid, but free up some time by not reading the forums.

Was thinking of, but will now actually say Good luck to all the London supporters best wishes to the London bid, may see you on the other side. (no access for non premium members closer to and after the decision). Maybe that's a good thing.

Just over 15 days to go. Bye Bye.
