Toronto 2015

Recommended Posts

I came across this youtube video shot from Toronto's waters. Stunning how much this city has transformed. So much growth over the past decade and moving into 4th spot for North America's largest cities.

This other one is titled Toronto Skyline Porn

It's very exciting that the Pan Ams are 4 months away. Time has gone so fast. Very much looking forward to them. Once we are done hosting it is time to concentrate on moving forward with a bid for the 2028 Olympics.

On a sidenote, that manmade tunnel is really strange. Who knows if the Police will figure out the real purpose of it being constructed. Very odd and potentially scaring if some kind of attack was being planned on the Rexall Tennis Stadium.

Monorail, I have never seen a city featured to such an epic standard! That video was remarkable beyond all words. I hope these games are an astounding success if only because they are being held in one of the most astounding cities on Earth.

Only 10k tickets sold last month.

They said they expected a post-Christmas lull and I guess they got it.

These medals are officially stunning and have achieved a superlative harmony in their design.

Is that sarcasm I sense?

They look okay, but nothing that special.

You realize that none of what you just said made any sense, right?

Ofan, as I have suggested rather emphatically before, I would not mind if you ignored my posts. I assure you that you comit an act of atrocity against your person and your intellect should you choose to retreat to the assumption that I cannot possibly know what I am talking about. Through my work and reputation, I am well qualified to evaluate the degree to which an object achieves a high degree of aesthetics through the combination of a multiplicity of factors. These medals are chic and exquisitely reflect the image that Toronto wants to ascribe to the games. Within this context, they have contributed perfectly to the look of games as I've seen shown on their website.

Ok, but why do you have to talk like that? It's so obnoxious and pretentious. You can't possibly communicate in such a manner in the real world, right?

If you would only be so kind, do explain why you would prefer to assign terms like "obnoxious" and "pretentious" to the example of language which you have indexed? There is a code, a language, manipulated exclusively among professionals, BY professionals, FOR professionals. To have to explain this comes uncomfortably close to an act of sacrilege against my expertise. But I do think it is important that you know this, and that you understand this professional code is as much expressed linguistically as it is expressed in written form. Language, after all, is power.

That being established, I'm afraid many of the facilities fall below the standard witnessed at Guadalajara and this, for a city of such youthful sophistication as Toronto, is deplorable.

I'd say "obnoxious" and "pretentious" hit the mark perfectly. Your expertise? Please tell us how you are more "qualified to evaluate the degree to which an object achieves a high degree of aesthetics" than the rest of us? You are absolutely fawning over Toronto here, just as you did with Rio. I find it hard to believe that someone in some sort of "professional" position that you're talking about could be that blown away by Toronto and their medals. Are you honestly telling us you have never "seen a city featured to such an epic standard" or is that just a little bit of hyperbole that's not meant to be taken entirely seriously?

I personally like the design, the story and look of the medals. Its among the very few design related things TO2015 has done right, and I would consider it among one of the best medal designs we have seen in recent time.

I simply am not here to argue. Most unfortunately, you have clearly taken offence with my opinion in a democratic forum since you have concluded that I am "more qualified" at the process of aesthetic evaluation that anyone else. I respectfully and most emphatically submit to whatever audience might be tempted to share your views, that I have not made any claim to exceed the analytic skill of anyone but simply stated that I am well qualified to engage in the evaluate the subject of the discussion at the level of aesthetics. The medals remain an exquisite highlight of what I have seen Toronto offer thus far....... Good day to you.

Wait, I think I get it now. Are you Willy Wonka?..

Is your next opinion going to be that the snozzberries taste like snozzberries?

Okay, being serious here.. I haven't taken offense to your opinion. If you think the medals from Toronto's Pan Am games represent some sort of pinnacle in human achievement, you're entitled to that opinion. But when you're telling a crowd on an Internet forum how "qualified" you are, please understand how that comes off as very obnoxious and EXTREMELY pretentious. That's what I take offense to: your attitude. Not to speak for everyone here, but I doubt too many of us care about your qualifications. I didn't conclude that you are more qualified. You are the one who broached that concept. And yes, there is some subtext there where you're implying that your opinion holds more weight. Even if that's not your intention, that's how it sounds. Where you're saying you are "well qualified to engage in the evaluate the subject of the discussion at the level of aesthetics" (what the heck does that even mean, anyway?), there's an implication there that you are trying to impress the people you're talking to. It would be like going to an art museum and saying you know what looks good better than other people do. That's what your presence feels like here at this point. It's almost as if we're being trolled.

I don't want to get into a massive argument here. That happens too often here and I don't want to prolong this. All I'd like to express is that you do sound very pompous and very pretentious. You are on an Internet forum full of people who have been here for a long time analyzing and debate the merits of the Olympics and other large-scale sporting events and the elements that make up those events. There have been plenty of debates (some which have gotten really nasty) overly what is aesthetically pleasing and what isn't. Your supposed "expertise" is not something that other posters here are going to be impressed by, so when you say of Rio "This city MUST be loved. You simply cannot help it! It demands the LOVE of the observer right on the spot!" it does beg the question how someone who claims to have such expertise could be so blown away by a city (and in this case, not 1, but 2 cities) and their efforts. I simply find it hard to believe that you are so incredibly impressed that these are the words you use to describe it. Rio "demands" the LOVE of the observer? How about you let the rest of us decide that for ourselves.

It is, indeed, very interesting and nonetheless a most unfortunate tragedy that you do not see it fit to speak to impress people with whom you are talking. Out of nowhere, you morphed into a magnet and attracted my comments to you leaving me to ponder...... Why? The comments were not meant for nor directed towards you so you should not take offence. If you would be so kind, feel free to ignore my posts. But under no circumstances shall I resort to the humiliation of the other. That behaviour is untouchably inferior as I am sure you understand.... and Good Day To You too.

Now, let's see what Toronto will reveal next. After all, I am sure (unless I have entered the wrong room...lol) that's what this thread is about.

In all fairness, we all have our opinions. But the strength of that opinion lies in one's skill in defending it.

It amuses me that someone of your supposed linguistic skills describes an argument on an internet forum as "a most unfortunate tragedy." It's one thing to try and impress people. It's another to do so in a manner that is pompous and pretentious. You say your comments weren't directed towards me.. well, this is a public forum that we're all sharing together. Once again, I don't take offense to your comments or your opinions. Nor am I trying to humiliate you. Just calling a spade a spade.

Okay, so defend it. Tell us.. what is it about Toronto's medal design that you find stunning? How have they achieved a superlative harmony in their design?
