Hmmm. I haven't gone outside Olympic circles, but then again, if I let the YOG mascots in ...

The porcupine's okay. I like his gay spikes.

Well, you do have Fatso the Fat-Arsed Wombat on there who isn't technically an official Olympic mascot.

Markham will Host Games Golf

Markham will Host Games Golf ...

The official Pan Am announcement is a month away, but Angus Glen,

Markham's most famous golf course, will be host to the Pan Am Games golf competition in 2015.

It will become reality, and confirmed in mid August.

Games organizers had the perfect opportunity to make one truly significant announcement at the two-year countdown ceremony at City Hall on Wednesday evening, but missed the boat. One of the invited guests let it slip at the Pan Am two year count down party.

It quickly found it way to Facebook and while Angus Glen offered a terse " no comment" on Friday, it will happen.

Apparently, there was a snag in negotiations with those who govern golf "world-wide" and Toronto 2015 organizers, about whether the Games will actually be an Olympic qualifier for 2016, the eligible players, and possible performance fees for pros who choose to play.

All involved are hopeful the, t- crossing and i-dotting, will be finalized in two weeks and the inevitable announcement can be made. There is no turning back now. Angus Glen has a revitalization plan for the south course to be ready for its 20th anniversary year, which just happens to coincide with 2015 and the Pan Am Games. While the Angus folks won't admit it, the reno is likely step one in another bid to host another Canadian Open in Markham.

While the official announcement will now be somewhat anticlimactic in two weeks, the scenery as the backdrop at Angus will be spectacular, as usual.

I really, really hope this goes well, this could be a huge boost for TO's Olympic hopes. Are they wanting 2024? If Madrid win 2020 & this goes well, Toronto could be very hard to beat.

Yes, the Canadian Olympic Committee has already chosen Toronto for a 2024 campaign and given their firm commitment. The city council voted in favour of exploring a bid, and will give its final verdict in October after the IOC selects the 2020 host city. It all really depends on who is selected for 2020 in my opinion. The 2024 bid may proceed regardless but I feel a Tokyo win would make things tougher for Toronto if we're up against Istanbul. Toronto's trying to pull a Rio by running a smooth and exciting Pan Am Games to prep for a grand 2024 SOG.

The Games will return to North America, but the IOC don't want to go to the US as they are scared of: a) Another Atlanta. B) More scandal allegations. c) Being seen to be US-biased, & d) Being forced to drop their in-venue advertising rules by USOC, NBC, & sponsors. Due to this, Toronto is arguably in one of the best positions of any potential bid city. They know that when it's North America's turn, they just need to not do anything stupid, do everything they need to do, & the Games are theirs. And I will be delighted if/when that happens, as Canada is one of my favourite countries, & it would be great to see a Canadian Summer Olympics.

Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport to lead anti-doping program at the TORONTO 2015 Games

July 30, 2013, TORONTO (ISN) – The TORONTO 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games Organizing Committee (TO2015) has announced the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) will lead anti-doping efforts at the Games.

The purpose of the TO2015 Anti-Doping Program is to prevent, deter and detect doping by educating athletes, advocating for a clean sport experience and providing doping control services before and during the Games on behalf of the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).

The program will use the latest techniques and most up-to-date anti-doping strategies for the Games to ensure the 7,500 athletes coming from 40 countries to Canada will compete on a fair and level playing field.

It will also leave a legacy by training 10 new doping control officers in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). The Games are already leaving a legacy for sport with much-needed infrastructure in southern Ontario, including: world-class pools, a velodrome and a soccer stadium. These new doping control officers will strengthen Ontario's ability to successfully bid for more high-profile international competitions.

"In pursuit of excellence in anti-doping programs, TO2015 turned to the CCES, which is known as an international leader in the field of doping control and sport ethics, for leading-edge monitoring, surveillance and athlete education," said Dr. Julia Alleyne, TO2015's chief medical officer.

"Under the direction of PASO and the IPC, we'll ensure athletes understand their rights and responsibilities, are able to access information and services in all three languages of the Games and compete in a fair and safe manner."

Paul Melia, president and CEO of the CCES, added: "The CCES is proud to offer the latest anti-doping techniques to protect the rights of clean athletes so they can compete fairly and showcase their talent on an even playing field at the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games."

Through the CCES, TO2015 is providing a free e-learning module for athletes in French, English and Spanish called True Sport Clean. The interactive site will be available to athletes and their support personnel before both sets of Games providing them with the most up-to-date information on the applicable anti-doping rules.

At Games time, the TO2015 Anti-Doping Program will involve more than 60 highly-trained doping control officers from across Canada, with experience at the London and Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Games, as well as 30 new blood collection officers and 375 new athlete chaperones that will be hired and trained by CCES in the GTA.

The anti-doping chaperones notify athletes when they are selected for doping control and then escort them through the sample collection process.

The CCES will also recruit doping control officers from other recognized anti-doping programs throughout the Americas to ensure services are available in French, English and Spanish for athletes.

For the 2015 Parapan Am Games, the TO2015 Anti-Doping Program will provide training to its sample collection personnel in order to assess any modifications requested by para-athletes to the anti-doping process. All doping control stations will be fully accessible, visual aids and other items will be available to assist athletes, and all sample collection personnel will be fully trained to Paralympic anti-doping standards to ensure a robust anti-doping program.

United States Olympic Committee (USOC) impressed with progress to date on TORONTO 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games

TORONTO, July 31, 2013 /CNW/ - With less than two years to go until the start of the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games, many of the best summer athletes from the United States are getting ready to come north to compete in Toronto, the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) said today.

"The TORONTO 2015 Games are really taking shape," said Alan Ashley, chief of sport performance for the USOC and chef de mission for Team USA at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games.

"We were impressed when we saw the venues and where TO2015 is at with its plans. You get a real sense of how great a Games this is going to be in less than two years. Athletes from the U.S. are certainly excited about the opportunity to compete in Toronto."

For the last two days, Ashley has led a delegation from the USOC on a fact-finding visit to the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games Organizing Committee (TO2015). This is the first of several visits to Toronto by the USOC ahead of the Pan Am/Parapan Am Games.

The USOC has historically brought the largest team to the Games and has a strong history of success. The country has topped the medal table in all but two editions of the Pan American Games since they started in 1951.

The TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games, which start July 10, 2015, will involve approximately 6,000 athletes, from 41 nations in the Americas and Caribbean competing in 36 sports. An additional 1,500 athletes will compete in the 2015 Parapan Am Games, starting on August 7, 2015. They will be the largest Parapan Am Games ever held.

What wil hurt Toronto is the massive debt Ontario has if it comes down to they would need $1 billion plus from Ontario there would be alot of push back and i would not count on Ontario or even the feds willing to give money again to Toronto a few years after the Pan Am games.

Ontario is supposed to be debt free by 2017/18 around the same time the decision is made. Also of note two MSE events per decade (with government support) and that starts after 2018.
