gotosy Posted December 29, 2012 Report Share Posted December 29, 2012 Pan Am organizers set to launch mascot contest The Toronto 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games Organizing Committee is helping parents sneak an art, geography and history lesson into their child’s vacation from school. In the new year, the committee will launch a contest calling on anyone 16 or younger to submit sketches that could become the event’s mascot. With the event being billed as “the people’s games,” it was an easy decision to use crowd-sourcing to come up with a design for the mascot, said Steve Wallace, vice-president of brand activation. The winning submission will be one that finds a way to characterize Canada and Toronto, embody joy and the Pan Am spirit, and represent all the countries and athletes who will be participating in the games, while being vibrantly coloured. The contest begins Jan. 7 and will wrap up March 8. More:Toronto 2015 Mascot Challenge Incorporating all the themes into one mascot may seem like a lofty task, but conveniently, the competition’s theme is collaboration. Entrants are encouraged to team up to come up with a mascot idea. Creators of the top six designs will then be able to work with an illustrator to polish their ideas. Finally, the public will vote on the best design. The committee hopes to receive more than 5,000 submissions from across Canada. The winning design will be featured on T-shirts and be used to create plush toys. The contest is for groups 16 and under. (or do you simply mean an individual entry?) Personally, they should have made the official logo an open contest for anyone over 18, whilst keeping this mascot contest for 16 years and under. As of now the Blue Jays wouldn't vacate the stadium (only for the ceremonies), which coincide with the MLB All Star weekend. I am not sure of FC, only a four day event will happen at BMO and it isn't as stretch to have three weeks away from BMO Field for the MLS. Re-ignite interest in baseball there while your at it. Rogers is reluctant to leave. Montreal is the only option at this point, Ottawa has too small off a stadium. intoronto Posted January 27, 2013 Report Share Posted January 27, 2013 An update of sorts on the track and field stadium: Pan Am Stadium Project Project Update: January 21, 2013 Demolition of the East Office Building soon to happen Pan Am Stadium Project now enters a new phaseOntario Sports Solutions, the successful proponent of the Infrastructure Ontario design build competition, is now moving from the planning stage to the initial implementation stage of the construction of the new Pan Am Stadium and renovations to the Toronto Track and Field Centre. This initial phase of the project, which is anticipated to be completed by Spring 2013, will include installation of hoarding, demolition of the East Office Building, construction of a cul-de-sac west of the Lumbers Building, and removal of remaining utility infrastructure within the construction site.Demolition of the East Office BuildingThe demolition of the East Office Building will proceed based on thefollowing schedule:1. January 21 - February 2: Removal of interior materials 2. February 4 - February 11: Demolition How will this impact the York community? (Please refer to the attached PDF map) Ottawa Blvd will be closed south from Ian Macdonald Blvd across from the Toronto Track and Field Centre. Ottawa Blvd can be accessed south from the Founders Traffic Circle to as far as the Lumbers Parking Lot. Ottawa Blvd continues to be a two-way road. The main entrance to the West Office Building will continue to be on the west side of the building. The East entrance will remain accessible for emergency use only. The walkway on the south side of Ian Macdonald Blvd has been closed. Pedestrians travelling east and west on Ian Macdonald Blvd between the Founders circle and Northwest Gate should use the sidewalk on the north side of the road.
