Italy chooses Fukuoka!  Japan chooses Milan!

Recommended Posts

TOKYO-ROME, April 1, 2006.  In a bizarre happenstance that brought back pre-World War II days of the rule of Japanese emperor Hirohito and Italian dictator Benito "Il Duce" Mussolini, the Italian Olympic Committee picked the Japanese city of Fukuoka as Japan's preferred candidate city for the 2016 Olympic race.  "We've waited long enough," said the Italian committee.  "Show your hand."

In response, its erstwhile ally, the Japanese Olympic Committee then unilaterally named Milan as Italy's candidate city for 2016.  This latest development, as first reported here on GamesBids, is the latest of pre-emptive bids in the escalating run for 2016.  "It's all done in love and brings back the old friendship between the 2 countries."

Japanese city of Fukuoka as Japan's preferred candidate city for the 2016 Olympic race.

Milan as Italy's candidate city for 2016.

.....and the US has since decided that their preferred candidate for 2016 is the historic metropolis of Milwaukee - Peter Uberroth declared that no US city would stand a greater chance to an international audience due to the illustrious and celebrated nature of America's favourite town.

:P
