PatchMan
What will be the main target zones of the bid cities for votes? Which regions of the world will they be canvassing and relying on to vote for them? For example, I think London will be trying very hard to secure the Commonwealth votes, which could be very important. I would expect Madrid to go for Latin American votes, would you all? Where will Russia, NYC and Paris be looking? Any other ideas for London and Madrid?

Guardian
It surprises me that China, Japan and Brazil ahve less than countries like Sweden and Switzerland. Well, nearly half of all the IOC members come from Europe. By the way, Israel is considered part of Europe in this regard.

For proof, come to this website: The Eurolympic Website From there, pick the English translation. After that, find the ENOCS section and click on it. Then, it gives you the list of the nations within the European Olympic Committee. There is the ISR icon (for Israel and with the flag of Israel) in this list. London votes coul come from Commonwealth countires and Madrid from Latin America. Paris could recieve votes from ancient african colonies, such as Morocco, Algeria and so on. Russia and NYC no idea. Guardian
Oh, I wasnt challenging you or saying you were lying, I was just saying that ISrael isnt part of Europe. I know. How quirky the IOC can be here. Even though Israel has only one vote, too bad we really won't know where that vote will go to in 2005. The "general feeling" is that it could go to New York. Guardian
Sorry. The IOC has made its decision that Taiwan is Chinese Taipei, to begin with. Also, it has a vote as an entity, rather than a nation.

Guest
I have the feeling that a large part of IOC members from african countries may vote for Paris (well at least if they don't have resentment over silly stuff like denial of visa or whatever ): i can easily see those "countries" voting for paris:senegal, algeria, tunisia, morocco, mauritius, Ivory Coast, Cameroon... for guinea and egypt that could be for London I'm not sure... all the other should be for London (uganda, zambia, south africa etc...). but who knows what could happen... I Love Minneapolis
I hope the nominees from Turkey and Czech Republic win. Turkey just lost a member and CR doesn't have one. I realize that many countries dont, but CR is a new, but important country. Also, all this talk about how commonwealths will vote for their former "mother country" is dumb. I am sorry, but who says that all the african countries will go for London and Paris, why? Spain had some african ties and the US contributes millions, if not billions to Africa. Ooooo... let's not get into this. The US is actually, as a % of GNP, the secnd most tight fisted developed country in the world. It doesn't give nearly as much to Africa as it should, or as  France and Spain and especially Britain do.
Eruedan
AFRICA Algeria: 1 - Paris Cameroon: 1 - Paris/London (Cameroon is both a Commonwealth country as well as being speaking French) Cote d'Ivoire: 1 - Paris Egypt: 1 - London Guinea: 1 - Paris Kenya: 1 - London Mauritius: 1 - London Morocco: 1 - Paris Nigeria: 1 - London Senegal: 2 - Paris South Africa: 1 - London Togo: 1 - Paris Tunisia: 1 - Paris Uganda: 1 - London Zambia: 1 - London OCEANIA Australia: 4 - London Fiji: 1 - London New Zealand: 1 - London Out of African / Oceania members i think the vote (based on colonial ties - i don't think there would be any reason for Afr/Oc to vote for NYC, Moscow, Madrid) will pan out to be; Paris   =   8 or 9 depending on cameroon. London = 13 or 14    "     "     "

PatchMan
and what makes u think that egypt and mauritius will vote for london over paris ??Both countries have tight history with France ! Egypt has a very strange history with Britain and France. It is also tight with Britain, so I think it may come down to which city they prefer, or who lobbies better. france supported Morrocco for the 2010 world cup, and this may have annoyed Egypt because it was North African. London and Paris also have large Muslim populations, but London hasn't banned the hijb. It will be close.
