Nbc Final Sign-off

Recommended Posts

Did anyone see NBC's final sign off after the closing ceremonies? I'm Canadian so usually I watch CBC but I'm in the US right now so I was stuck watching NBC for the last half of the Olympics. I don't care for most of their coverage but I have to say the final sign off with the credits was very well done. The anchor's monologue was expertly written and executed, and after he did his speach they showed images of China and the games accompanied by some good music. I don't know the name of the song but I have heard it before. That being said if anyone can find it online on YouTube or something they should post it. I've been looking but can't seem to find it yet. It summed up the games well.

They played two songs for the credits. Don't know about the first one, but the second one is from the movie "Remember the Titans" and the song itself is called "Titan Spirit". NBC has used Titan Spirit for the closing credits in 2002, 2004, 2006 and now 2008 (in addition to a second song).

I thought the 2008 credits were amazing, the ones they did for previous Games were good but not as great:

CBC's sign-off and credits were also amazing, especially since this is the last time the network will be broadcasting the Games for awhile:

I found a little clip of it on YouTube. It doesn't feature the whole speach but does have the whole credits sequence. It's quite good. Not the greatest quality though.

it was really an excellent summary of the Games....when the other principal anchor, Jim Lampley, signed off earlier in the afternoon for the last time he also had a great sign off speech prepared....

when all of the other channels on the NBC network signed off they ran the credits to the song "Dreamer" which I also enjoyed....NBC did a great job covering these Games, and i am glad they will be the USA's broadcaster definately for 2010 and 2012...hopefully they will be renewed when it is up again

I do love NBC's coverage as well. Other than many things not being live and seen on a tape delay, it's really great, probably the most well produced and slickest - NBC spends a ton of money on the production - and I love the John Williams scored Olympic theme that was originally written for the medal ceremonies of the 1984 Los Angeles games, which has now become an Olympic standard. Of course they totally focus first and foremost on USA athletes, but if USA athletes are competing and especially if they are expected to contend, then that's what I want to see. I mean, this is coverage for the USA and Americans like me. I want the focus on our athletes in our coverage and I expect it's the same in other countries as well, and as well it should be. But NBC does focus on other nations athletes as situations warrant, if, for instance, it is a major race or competition and Americans are not contending or are not expected to place (as in say, the Men's Marathon this year for example). I hope NBC wins the rights to 2014, 2016 and beyond, I have no complaints other than the live/tape issue.

NBC's coverage has constantly improved, I hated their 2000 coverage, their 2002 coverage was a little better, 2004 improved some more, 2006 was even better and this one topped them all. They are starting to listen to complaints and respond and its good. They have developed a great team and hopefully their coverage of Vancouver in a favourable time slot will be even better.

I have the unedited CCTV coverage of the OC; and I taped the NBC version. Altho it's missing a sequence or 2, NBC's definitely better. My parents missed the broadcast on 8/08/08. So when I see them this T/giving, I will take both versions and play the NBC edition for them because at least it has some intelligent and cogent commentary (notwithstanding Bob Costas' droll wit sometimes) which makes all the difference. Without some sort of commentary, it just makes the visuals totally cold and remote.
