Faster
" That's gold baby, yeah!"lol...fantastic swimmer, bit of a douche though. He is one of the typical, I act black, teenagers that North America produced over the last 10 years.
ChicagoRes
Too many great moment to summarize in 5 here. Outstanding performances: 1-Phelps 2-Bolt-MP and UB for the obvious reasons Personal stories 3-German weightlifter who recently lost his wife winning gold 4-US wrestler, the son of illegal immigrants, compiling upset after upset on his way to gold 5-Australian diver pulling off a shocker vs. the Chinese Games in general: 6-the opening ceremonies and the pageantry surrounding it 7-the production quality for those of us viewing at home. China might have put a bit of a cover on the human element, but the production quality was such that you felt so much closer to the action. The camera angles, HD...you just felt closer to the action. micheal_warren
For me Phelps and Bolt are the outstanding achievements For New Zealand, having our best games in about 20 years! Nick Willis winning our first track medal since 1976 in the 1500m with bronze and Valerie Vili winning gold in the womens shot put which is the first gold in athletics since 1976! Triffle
Just looking at wikipedia's beijing olympics page, and surprisingly found Canada had sent the 8th largest delegation desite clearly not being a medal powerhouse; while Italy sent a larger contingent of athletes than GB and France. No surprises with top 5. Top 10 in order: China (639), USA (596), Russia (467), Germany (463), Australia (433), Japan (351), Italy (341), Canada (332), France (323), GB (312). Rob2012
the Union Jack instead of the Drapeau tricolore, with Boris Johnson making it worse Get over it! Boris is a bit of a joke though, I'll give you that one.

See, there are only about a dozen countries, whose marching in probably takes a good 1/2 hour -- so if these can be limited to max 50; that's a good 1/2 hour off the most TEDIOUS part of the OCs. jim jones
5 - Dara Torres - at 41, her silver should inspire people to think about sport/fitness for life4 - Team Britain's golden hind - good things to come in 2012 3 - Team China's golden horde - good show on home ground 2 - Bolt - Three's Company 1 - Phelps - Eight is Enough how well crafted can you get Kendegra . A top five for me i can't decide but Dara Torres I give the sportsmanship award to . Her having the officials delay a race as a Swedish Swimmer had a rip in her suit and had to change it showed total Class and Maturity Bolt I don't care what you say about the antics this 22 year old is funny and a breathe of fresh air that amateur sports needs. Lets hope that Relay Team is in Vancouver for the Bobsled !!!! Paula Radcliffe a trooper who if there was a gold for courage she would win it hands down . Simon Witfield , the old man of triathlon kicked some major young butt at 33 and was 5 second behind from the gold. Eric Lamase, Cocaine took him out of two olympics 1996 and 2000 . the man thought of ending his life . got his life back together and won Gold in Beijing for individual equestrian . That is a REAL rising from the ashes story not the redeem team of USA Mens basketball. China from the Architecture Wonder of the New Venues to The road cycling race around the Great Wall acrhitectual wonder of the ancient world What a contrast!!! I agree with Sir Roltel on that one. Everywhere you looked the venues and courses had you in a dream state. The mountain biking venue inside the city was incredible from the standpoint of location . Ian Millar the oldest man to medal in a sport that still exists on the Summer Olympic Program . The man first Appeared in Munich 1972 and won his first medal a Silver at the age of 61 in Bejing . A fellow Nova Scotian. Phelps was amazing and perhaps the only thing that comes near the opening ceremonies. The man is Humble. The Nigerian Mens football Team . Exceeded most peoples expectations . They played great text book pocession football. They also proved a Black African Coach could take an African Team to the Gold Medal round. Samson Siasia is a coach beyond many. Dream Team 4 as they call it played as a team and nearly won the gold holding off Argentina until the second half. Argentina could have blown out Nigeria 3 to 0 but 1-0 even thou a loss is very respectable. The kayaker for Togo winning a Bronze and the first medal ever for that country. My favorite for being so out of the Blue is Priscilla Lopes-Schliep, Canadian Womens Hurdler who won Bronze. The girl does not fit you typical tall lean track athlete yet she beat many of that type. Olympian2004
A late one, but I hadn't much time yet to work up the last two days of the Games (which I missed due to a wedding I had to attend): 5.) Shooters Natalia Paderina (Russia) and Niko Salukvadze (Georgia) sharing a demonstrative hug two days after Russia invaded Georgia. 4.) The friendliness of the Chinese people, cheering loudly even for teams like France or Great Britain at the opening ceremony, despite the protests at the torch relay there. 3.) Matthias Steiner's courageousness and the picture of his late wife. 2.) The opening ceremony. Besides that incredibly cheesy "We make a dove with our hands" segment, the soldiers' goosesteps and the endless parade of nations, it was just stunning. Special highlight: The theme song, still for me one of the best in Olympic history. 1.) Britta Steffen winning her 100 m freestyle medal and being totally overcome by emotions afterwards. And the enthusiasm of German TV which repeated her race and her medal ceremony again and again throughout the day. The German national anthem never sounded better at those Games.
