About time you Yanks opened a room. I'll hav a glass of Sonoma thanks. At least you did it _ I see the Brits are still too cheap to open a hospitality tent. The LOCOG budget must be super tight!

Sorry Roltel, we were waiting for the beer to get to room temperature.

Everyone, please help yourselves to a complementary pitcher of Pimms and enjoy your discussions of all things Team GBR!

Enjoy! :)

Just a few thoughts.....

Where does Team GBR go from here? The aim for London 2012 was to finish fourth; by the end of Beijing 2008 we might still be placed above Russia in third - what targets can be set for 2012: 4th, 3rd, 2nd, 1st?

The British athletes have done so well in Beijing, would 2012 be seen as a failure if they don't do quite as well when the Olympics come to London - expectations are going to be so high now - is that a good thing or a bad thing?

Government expenditure on British athletes is set to increase - where should this be spent? Cycling and Rowing or Judo and Table Tennis?

Is Britain the only country that is scared of its own success? The BBC, the other evening, instead of enjoying the achievement of the cyclists, was discussing whether Britain's domination of the velodrome was really bad for the sport as a whole - I doubt somehow Australians were expressing these concerns after their cycling medal haul in Athens - perhaps Britain isn't use to winning - why do British people always have to feel guilty for succeeding in something?

Somebody find me a pint of hand-pulled John Smiths bitter. Immediately. Other beverages are, of course, available.

To go back to Stu's question now, if we finish third this time, the target must be to sustain that. It is unrealistic to believe we will pass the US or China.

Warm beer!?!

I'll have a gin and tonic instead, thanks.

Anyway, cheers to Team GB. Really hope you can hold onto third.

I think your target for London now is clear _ definitely third. And you should be able to achieve it.

And you've given us Aussies an incentive and target for ourselves to aim at _ not that I think we can knock you off the target in London, but we'll see in 2016.

True, true :( ... seems that Great Britain is the new "benchmark" for the Australian team ... I must admit that though being German ... but anyway, you can be proud of such a good team this year, and London will push you to be third again ... hope you can defend this third position this year ! Britannia, rule the ... games :P !!

A much needed extra gold from Tim Brabants in the kayak event! Well done Tim!! :)

That's one more gold between us and the Russians as we desperately cling onto our 3rd spot.Although I expect we will get finally overtaken by the latter some time today or tomorrow, every little extra helps.(Such a pity our other gold medal hopeful Shanaze Reade couldn't have made it a double)!!

But overall...it's been a great ride!!! :D

I read this from the Sydney Herald and think it`s way over the top. I think some Australians are very better about Britain defearing Australia in the games medal table.

Sydney Morning Herald article on Britain

It seems that there are always some Australians, although not all (certainly not the ones I've met here on Gamesbids) who just love to belittle Britain and put us down at every opportunity. No doubt the newspaper will claim it was just meant to be a bit of harmless fun,and no doubt that is true to a large extent, but there does seem to be an undercurrent of real bitterness at play as well (eg.what was that snide remark about the Millennium all about?).It's as if some Australians cannot stand the thought of there being anything like a successful modern Britain (especially in sports) and that they can only live comfortably with the older idea of Britain as a washed-up country that doesn't seem able to compete at anything successfully in the modern world so that they can poke fun at us which is all rather sad really and does seem to tell you more about Australia than it does about Britain! Maybe I'm exaggerating but I would like to hear the opinions of some of the Aussie posters on here about this!

In any case,I've got news for the editor of the Sydney Morning Herald and other like-minded Aussie publications...when it comes to poking fun at the Brits, nobody does it better than the Brits themselves. So back off!!!! B)

What a horrid man - and obviously shows a lack of knowledge about which of the two countries has won the most Olympic medals.
