Here's an early favorite for the gold medal in the sore losers event.

http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/news?slug...s&type=lgns

I can't stand that kind of an attitude. does he realize how many of those athletes, and how many people in general would love to win an Olympic medal, regardless of color? I hope the IOC strips him of it, just as they did the weightlifter from the Unified Team in 1992.

Listen darling, if you continue this shouting and name-calling in this forum, I'll have to report you. There's something called nettiquette -- ever heard of it?

Sorry Pillan, sometimes life just isn't fair. Anyone who has been associated with sports has been on the wrong side of a referee or judges decision. A true sportsman will accept such setbacks with grace and dignity. I find acts of poor sportsmanship such as this one or, as another example the 1972 basketball final, to be absolutely deplorable. If Ara had a legitimate complaint, then there would have been more appropriate channels in which to protest. Instead he acted like a spoiled baby who didn't get what he wanted and for that I have no sympathy for him regardless of the particulars of his situation.

so you meant this was an Italian Job?

THE WHOLE FILA IS CORRUPT!!!!!!!!! The jugdes give a point to Ara.! The Italians give a protest against the decision and then the judge change the decision. He gave a warning to Ara because the Italians said Ara was outside the carpet. But the only thing which was outside the carpet was one of Ara´s hands. Nothing else. That´s okay. It´s nothing wrong with that. But the jugde give the warning and the victory to Italy. He didn´t even see a video tape of the situation. He totally ignore the Swedes protest! Trainers and jugdes from different countries said the jugding was HORRIBLE! Even the Italian winner later admit he was very lucky against Ara and the game was very strange!

Later, Sweden give a protest to FILA. The problem is that the FILA president is cousin with one of the jugdes in the scandal game. Fila did NOTHING. Now Sweden will give a protest to IOC. The Swedes want to see the jugdes punished!

The jugdes have more than one explain to why Ara got the warning. The jugdes give different reasons to that. Even they seems don´t know why Ara got the warning. SCANDAL!

'72 was poor sportsmanship to the higest degree but at least they just didn't show up for the medal ceremony. This guy shows up and throws a fit in front of the world!

I can't wait to see the video of this!

calm down dear~Just wait and see how the situation goes later on~I think IOC would definitly investigate this kind of incident like Salt Lake City 2002 .~But for whatever reason that behavior just never contributing the voice of your team here.

Well, he was totally robbed in semi! ALL normal people could see it. Then FILA ignore the protest because ther presidents couin was among the jugdes. So should Ara be aqiuet and do nothing`??? Many trainers from different said it must be new RULES if wrestling should stay in OG. Now Ara drop is medal, the it will be a huge negative publictiy for FILA and the jugdes, then sponsors draw out. Then Fila maybe will understand the must change the system. But if all sportmens should be nice and kind like you want then NOTHING will happen. Ara had brave to protest against the horrible system! Maybe you could tell how he could protest in a better way???

My question is now what people in this forum have against Sweden???????? It seems Sweden never does good things.

Ara Abrahamian should get a GOLD MEDAL for best sportmanship!

Pillan, calm down. You are getting a little irrational about this. I don't detect any anti-Sweden bias in any of this discussion and I personally am quite fond of your country. This thread is about an athlete who displayed inappropriate behavior and spoiled the dignity of the occasion for the other medallists. It wouldn't matter if he was Swedish, Russian, American, etc, I would be appalled the same regardless. The IOC might look more favorable on his complaint if he didn't ruin a truly cherished ritual.

Tommy Smith and John Carlos were sent home after the '68 "Black Power Salute." and missed the remainder of their events. It is still appaling to me as an American they did this. Same with the '72 basketball team.

This has nothing to do with Sweden. He may have been robbed - I don't know, I haven't seen it. But a better approach would be as the Koreans did in '04 when they had an issue with Paul Hamm's score. They accepted their medals but later followed the proper procedure of protest.

HOW SHOLUD HE PROTEST THEN??? I´M STILL WAITING FOR A ANSWER FROM YOU!

and yes, it seems like some people are anti-swedish in here! In the whole Scandinavia, the support for Ara and Sweden are very strong. Some Norweigans are mad totally on the Italians. Then note, Scandiavians are NOT friends in sport! We are biggest rivals. But in this case the support are very strong.

FILA may conduct the contests, but the IOC owns the event. Any attempts at redress will need to go through them. I would not hold my breath though after his tantrum.

I'm going to leave this discussion now. Pillan, I think you need to cool off. You are refusing to listen to reason. You may feel free to fire off another emotional diatribe, but I will waste no further time reading them. I have an Olympic Games to follow.

Muhammad Ali throw his into the Ohio River.

I;m sure the coaches picked it up and he will eventually have it.

Was it the Ohio river? I thought it was the Tiber when he happened to throw it out of jubilation. Not disgust.

And the IOC did eventually replace it; I believe in 1996, in Atlanta.

Now, if someone managed to fish out the original one -- that would bring a pretty penny.
