842 Million Chinese Watched The Opening Ceremony

(BEIJING, August 9) -- According to China Central Television (CCTV), 842 million people tuned in to one of their channels to watch the Olympic Opening Ceremony on Friday, August 8. This means that the Opening Ceremony attracted 83.7% of television viewers in China during that time slot. This high statistic broke current CCTV viewership records.

CSM Media Research shows that the Opening Ceremony stood the test of time, with 10% of the audience tuned in for the entire four hour long ceremony and 43.6% watching for two hours or more.

CTR Market Research shows that 90.3% of the audience was pleased with the artistic performances, with an astounding 98.5% thinking that it displayed the highlights of Chinese history and culture.

Perhaps the most popular and most eagerly anticipated moment of the ceremony was the lighting of the torch, which 93.6% of viewers in that time slot tuned in for. Of this vast audience, 75.3% were pleased with the lighting, and 63.6% reflected that they felt very proud to be Chinese after watching the ceremony.

True.

However SOCOG, the Olympics Minister, and the 2000 Ceremonies Team wanted the Athens handover to be cut down a little bit to the more traditional 10 minutes.

However, Athens wouldnt do it. At least, not to the extent that SOCOG wanted.

Actually, I think the Athens handover was supposed to be a little bit longer.
