huaiwei
Malaysian World No. 2 , Lee Chong Wei defeated Singapore's Ronald Susilo earlier this evening, 21-13 , 21-14 . As I expected from this under-performer. His ex-fiancée obviously knows how to recover emotionally far better than he!
theone
Malaysia lost in 2 QF matches yesterday. That left us with only Lee Chong Wei in the men's singles playing today. He's up against Indonesia's Athens bronze medalist.

theone
Lee Chong Wei showed why he's Malaysia's best bet for gold with an impressive 21-9, 21-11 win against INA's Sony Dwi Kuncoro, the Athens' bronze medalist. Chong Wei will meet either Bao Chunlai CHN or Lee Hyung-Il KOR in the SF.

huaiwei
Chinese get the gold medal from single woman.... Technically not yet...although the gold and silver are guaranteed theirs in the all-Chinese final. Unless the Chinese team looses out to the top seeded Indonesian team in the mixed doubles, they will have a finalist in all the other events. We will see a clean sweep by the Chinese backed by a boisterous home crowd, or will the intense pressure get the better of them? Stay tuned! theone
woohooooooo! Malaysia Boleh! Lee Chong Wei is in the final! Malaysia is assured of at least a silver and possibly a gold. Chong Wei is on FIRE! Hopefully Lin Dan will be in the final so that we'll see the world's #1 & #2 battle it out for the best ever badminton match in Olympics history! No #1 men singles player has ever won gold in the Olympics. Let's hope it stays that way! Edited August 15, 2008 by theone

theone
Thanks! The whole nation is definitely happy. RTM even showed the whole match LIVE outside their coverage schedule. RM1,000,000 (approx. US$330k) awaits him if he gets the gold. I'm sure he wants the title "OLYMPIC CHAMPION" more than the money. Silver medalists get RM300k, Bronze medalists get RM100k. Not too sure if Malaysia can medal in other sports... maybe Taekwondo and Cycling... I don't know.. but the possibility is there!

theone
DESCRIBING the Olympic gold as "his life", shuttler Lee Chong Wei has promised that tomorrow's men's singles final will see him fight to the death. World champion Lin Dan, the fanatical crowd at the Beijing University of Technology Gymnasium and even possible under-handed tactics will not stop Chong Wei in his bid to bring home Malaysia's first ever Olympic gold medal.Chong Wei said he owes it to himself, coach Misbun Sidek and Malaysia to give the final his best shot, and more, as all have sacrificed to see him get where he is now. The final means so much to me. I have sacrificed so much and this is, firstly, for me. My coach needs it too for he has been a pillar and Malaysia needs it because of the support I have been given." It didn't escape Chong Wei's attention that tomorrow's final is his first in a major event. "I know this, and this is all the more reason why I will take whatever China throw at me." With Lin Dan, as expected, progressing easily with a 21-12, 21-18 win over compatriot Chen Jin, Chong Wei knows no stone will be left unturned to make the China star the champion. "Let them do what they want to do because I am in the final and I will fight. The gold medal means my life and I won't chicken out. Malaysia can be assured of that." Especially heartening was that Chong Wei never once spoke about the incentive - RM1 million for gold and RM300,000 for silver - and this intense focus could well see him slaying China's dragon Lin Dan on home soil tomorrow.
