You Canadians have one of the most beautiful national anthems in the world anyway -- so I think it's almost impossible to destroy its magic (maybe only by a rather dull bass performance like the one Ben Heppner did in Torino ;)). Frankly, I was shocked at first when I heard the anthem's version used in Athens, but it actually grew on me. It's an unusual version, yes -- but I actually don't think that it's a bad one. But I understand everyone for whom this is too much of a break with tradition. And did you know that the infamous Athens version was actually arranged by a then-Canadian, namely Peter Breiner?

By the way: My favourite performance of "O Canada" still remains this one:

Even I as non-Canadian get tears in my eyes from it.

There is some controversy over the anthem's words

The line

'Our home and native land' - this pisses off the natives who mock it by saying

'your home on native land'

'In all our sons' command' - feminist say its sexist

'God keep our land' - atheists
