dtd2
I am stunned about not only the USA's result, but nearly all of the games. New Zealand nearly defeated Japan! Norway scored twice in five minutes against the US. China defeated Sweden! Germany & Brazil played very sloppily!

theone
1. Good crowd at the China-Sweden match. 2. Didn't like the Chinese jersey.. looked cheap. 3. Didn't like the Shenyang Stadium where they played the Germany-Brazil & North Korea- Nigeria matches. It looked too big and the grass is not that green. Fox334
Tomorrow's matches:FOOTBALL (Men) - 5.00PM *Australia vs Serbia *Japan vs USA *Brazil vs Belgium *Honduras vs Italy FOOTBALL (Men) - 7.45PM *Côte d'Ivoire vs Argentina *Netherlands vs Nigeria *China vs New Zealand *South Korea vs Cameroon So, what do you guys plan on watching tomorrow? I think I will watch the Japan - USA match (those two teams should be quite even) and the Côte d'Ivoire - Argentina match (could very well be the best game on offer tomorrow). Infinite_Olympics
So, what do you guys plan on watching tomorrow? Just the USA vs. Japan match for me. I'm eager to see how our men's team does after the women's shocking defeat.

Thats what I plan on watching as well. I really hope that the USA will win, since it's a must win for them. Also, about the tickets/crowds, the tickets were only sold out for events in Beijing. Here is the attendance from when China hosted the Women's World Cup last year. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_FIFA_Wom...rld_Cup#Group_A
Filipe_Golias
Correction: The chinese audience seems to be very fond of cheering loudly. The amazing thing is that Shenyang Olympic Stadium looks only (at best) half-full (rather only 1/3 full), but it sounds like there are all 60,000 seats occupied. Thumbs up, Chinese audience! You got to hand it: Chinese and Japanese (especially women) can scream for two or three normal people.
Chapin Urbano
I will watch the Honduras -Italy game, since I am half honduran, Go HONDURAS!!!!! Those are not disappointing numbers at all if we compare what happened 4 years ago in Athens where the football venues were empty most of the time , including at the big finals. I'm pleased with Chinese crowds so far . On the other hand, pollution was very notable at the venues with its characteristic foggy aspect . NY20??
Is it just me or are those numbers kinda disappointing (especially since all the tickets where supposed to be sold...). All tickets for events in Beijing that went on sale are sold out. So most of the tickets left were for Football.

Here are numbers from the first day of women football from Athens. It's from wikipedia, but they don't have the numbers from group C which included Greece. Sweden-Japan: 10,104 Germany-China: 14,657 The final average according to FIFA was 10,431. Only one game got less then that & this is only the first day. So that doesn't include the quarterfinals, semifinals, bronze, or gold match which likely had higher attendance.
Citius Altius Fortius
Three football clubs filed a lawsuit against the FIFA, since three football players (younger than 23 years)) left their clubs to join their national teams to play in Beijing. Today the CAS agreed to the point of view of the club that the Olympic tournament is not an official FIFA tournament and the clubs don't need to give their players the opportunity to play at Olympic Games... This means that the FIFA has to approve the Olympic tournament, what has been avoided by the FIFA so far! Otherwise the Olympic Football tournament will get into huge problems... baron-pierreIV
Is it just me or are those numbers kinda disappointing (especially since all the tickets where supposed to be sold...). Preliminary rounds, especially those of the countires OTHER than the host, do NOT sell well. Same as the World Cup; the prelims really don't get too many people excited. It's just FOOTBALL is an over-rated sport that the Europeans and Latins simply go ape over. Yeah, it's got a worldwide following, but the basic truth is you waste so many hours of your life you can't get back.
ñuto
One more reason to replace it with beach soccer, for instance. beach soccer? I think that futsal in a more serious option...
Faster
China betting Sweden is the worst possible result for Canada, we traditionally have troubles against the big European teams and its unlikely we'll get more than a draw from them. Chapin Urbano
beach soccer? I think that futsal in a more serious option... Yes, futsal would be a good option, but beach football wouldn´t be bad either.
Filipe_Golias
beach soccer? I think that futsal in a more serious option... Don't see why is it "more serious", but futsal would be great imo, as well. Both are fast, intense and exciting sports. They work wonders spectator-wise.
