mr.x
This has been discussed before in other topics, and if it is the cauldron this is probably the best shot we've had of it yet......since this picture was taken, the bubble roof thing has been removed: You can also see a ton of fireworks launchers on the roof. Rob2012
Oooh, intruiging. At least we know it's red and it looks very similar in style to the torch. How thick is that roof btw!!

Filipe_Golias
Christ, suddenly I had an "Atlanta 1996 cauldron" feeling by lookng at that exposed tip If the cauldron really does slide to the roof rim and tilt down to be lighted, my country's flag will so be on the spotlight

baron-pierreIV
If the cauldron really does slide to the roof rim and tilt down to be lighted, my country's flag will so be on the spotlight I don't think it's going to 'slide down.' Its tip will be already positioned to receive the flame. It will then tilt up and 'slide up' to a higher position on the roof. Don't you see that its stationary position will be away from the inner lip of the roof? I don't see what Portugal's flag will have to do with the slightly tilted lightly, Filipe? (OMG!! Didn't even realize this is my 18,180 post!! ) Edited August 3, 2008 by baron-pierreIV
Filipe_Golias
WOW, you do have a good vision. Not really. I have myopia, actually It's just that my flag is easy to be seen far away with its red-and-green field and a yellow ball in the center. If i'm not mistaken it's stuck between Poland's (left) and Japan's/South Korea's (right).
Filipe_Golias
If i'm not mistaken it's stuck between Poland's (left) and Japan's/South Korea's (right). Wrong. Should've noticed already they're aligned by the countries marching order... So, it's Slovakia on the left and indeed South Korea on the right (duh). I don't see what Portugal's flag will have to do with the slightly tilted lightly, Filipe? It's just that IF the lighting really happens as I described, the TV cameras could possibly be focused on the roof's lower rim, on the precise spot where the flag is hanging. Just a curious observation. As side note: we're all still dealing with speculations as to how the cauldron will be lighted and where it'll definitely stay put. But if it does rest that far away from the roof's rim, it'll be a letdown for those who are used to seeing the flame 'presiding' over the Games... NY20??
They must have taken it down after Saturday night’s fireworks rehearsal because it was still up then, but then gone when NBC Nightly News aired live the next morning at 6:30. I still think that it will slide and tilt.
NY20??
Oh by the way, it wasn't just the inflatable hanger thing that was removed, the cauldron (red/orange scroll inside) wasn't there either. I'll know for sure in around 25 min. when Nightly News starts.
seamus21514
I have a HD tuner, so I could take NBC captures. The cauldron looks ugly, looking at the pictures.

I can't see the cauldron, and the smog is terrible. Crap, NBC used really old aerial footage (I can tell mainly because the stadium's floodlights aren't covered and the "Look of the Games" isn't in place yet). So that first picture won't help us. And in the second one, the curve of the stadium hides the corner of the roof where the cauldron is/would be. But thanks anyways, Seamus.

Olympian2004
So the "rubber hangar" is still in place? Why did mr.x say then that it has been removed meanwhile? And about the smog: Well done, Beijing! What was all the fuzz about, with all those factory close-downs and traffic bans? Here's a report confirming the smog's return: ABC Australia

spanierxx
I really think that this red thing is only a piece of the final Cauldron. Like in Sidney, the column that holds the Cauldron maybe hide everywhere in the Stadium. What do you think?
