Too bad that Al Michaels, he of "Do You Believe in Miracles?", won't be in Beijing. I guess he's gotten to the point where he rather do the NFL for a few months and spend the rest of the year relaxing.

That's a shame, I hope they consider bringing him to do hockey in Vancouver.

Oh god Brian Williams better not be co-hosting the Opening Ceremony. Come to think of it, NBC really should just give that commentating job to the BBC's guy for that night or just let everything speak for itself.

By the way, Carillo and Hicks also commentated NBC's HD broadcast of Athens' OC.

You mean our commentator, who will probably be Barry Davies, or the presenter?

From what I recall, Brian Williams was criticized a bit for being a little downbeat in 2006, where for every country he seemed to have a completely depressing anecdote about some serious issue they were facing.

I didn't think he was too bad and it's certainly not something that he can't fix. Peter Jennings was great at it for many years, providing enough details about foreign countries without making you weep for the future of the world.

Then again, they might just go with Meredith Viera. I could see that happening, too.

Yes, I mean Barry Davies, the commentator. He just seems much more "in the moment" during the Ceremony than Bob Costas or probably anyone that NBC could put on.

Jennigs' commentary were pretty bland and boring. I'd prefer 'biting' commentary to give the whole proceedings a little kick. Not Meredith Viera please -- she's only Game Show host material.

But anyone's fine so long as they DON'T cut away to those dumbe interviews w/ the even dumber US athletes -- I mean I can always turn off the sound.
