arwebb
Poland say they will have six venues ready for 2012 if Ukraine can't keep up their half of the bargain, but I can't see that being enough if Ukraine's problems continue. Faster
Italy and Spain's economies aren't doing that well right now. So by 2012 it will potentially shorten the list to Germany, France and England or England/Scotland.
arwebb
England are concerned with 2018 and quite rightly so. It's too soon to go back to Germany, even in an emergency and I'd be reluctant to go back to France as well. As I've said before, Scotland can do it and they wouldn't get another chance to on their own.

France is bidding for 2016 so they are a possiblity but in reality if they are pulled Germany is by far the most likely host. The ability to host and wouldn't have hosted in 24 years. arwebb
That depends entirely on how long you're prepared to leave it until you pull the plug on Poland and Ukraine. If UEFA takes the decision to move as early as this year, then there is sufficient time for another bid process. It is only if we get to a year out or less that we would need to just go to a country that has had the recent track record. If a country has good venues to start with, plus plans to improve further, why should we rule them out now just because they haven't been given a chance before now? Faster
Spain can host the Euro 2012 without problems...and the 2010 WC too...Blatter knows it very well Facilities wise yes Spain is a competent host, but the other costs at short notice my be a struggle for Spain and Italy because the current economic climate is hitting southern Europe harder than other parts right now. Its too bad Russia doesn't have enough venues.
Ahmet
I really hope that we'll (Turkey) be able to have the honour of hosting the 2016 EURO tournament. I think that we should prioritize our efforts at gaining this event, as it would suitable and the perfect opportunity to host it there. Plus we have the venues required for making it all happen. So I say, screw the Olympics and let us host the EURO 2016 instead.

Ahmet
I think most of us know about the venues in Istanbul, but where else is there? After doing a quick search in Wikipedia, they can also host some of the matches in İzmir, Ankara, Kayseri as well as Trabzon in the east almost right away or within a few short years time. İzmir already has the İzmir Atatürk Stadium which has the capacity to seat 58,008 individuals. That stadium was already used to stage the Mediterranean games in 1971 and was recently renovated to host the 2005 Summer Universiade Games. So I'm sure that it wont have much trouble meeting any conditions and requirements set by UEFA. The Hüseyin Avni Aker Stadium in Trabzon can seat 30,000 individuals with any upgrades that it will have to go through. Although, they are currently building a new stadium from scratch which will house the Trabzonspor club and it is expected to have a minimum of at least 30,000 seats. Ankara has the New Ankaraspor Stadium being built which has the capacity to host 35,000 individuals. The city of Kayseri has the Kayseri Kadir Has Stadium which will be opened sometime next month. Apparently, it is going be one of the most modern and advanced stadiums in Turkey with the capacity to hold 32,864 individuals. Other cities that could and need new stadium include Bursa, Konya and Antalya. So given the the honour of hosting this tournament, I'm sure that those behind our bid would be able to deliver elsewhere and not just in İstanbul. arwebb
My source is clearly out of date. But presumably some sort of better planning will have to be put in place with regard to transport to the Olympic Stadium if we're to avoid a repeat of the kinds of stories we were hearing after the 2005 Champions League final. stryker
I'd like to see Turkey & Greece give it a go. How feasible would a joint bid by those countries be?
arwebb
I don't see why they couldn't. Should be one or two modern stadia around Greece from the Olympics.

Olympian2004
Greece and Turkey are building a couple of stadiums right now. That's true. By 2010, Athens alone will have four modern stadia: The Olympic Stadium, Karaiskaki Stadium (in Pireas), Votanikos Arena (the new home of Panathinaikos) and AEK Arena (AEK's new home). And each one with 30,000 or more seats!
arwebb
Not that they'd be able to use them all of course. But weren't there some others rebuilt around the country for the Olympic tournament?
