Durban Sandshark
The Tall Ferns ended their Olympic odyssey as NZ's sole basketball reprsentative with an expected loss to the USA in women's basketball, losing to them by almost 40 points, the smallest margin of victory for the Americans yesterday. They finish 1-4 with their sole win coming from their their first game against African champs Mali, which was by 4 points. This is a young team led by point guard Angela Marino, and they fought hard aginst the US despite the end result. That said, it will be hard to return to the Olympics for a third time unless a situation like the Opals win another WC in 2010, prompting the Tall Ferns almost automatic entry out of Oceania.
