baron-pierreIV
That's good. It seemed unlikely because they're supposed to be metal-like and we have all seen how strange they look in "real life". However, I remember thinking the same about Beijing mascots the day they were launched (those costumes were much worse than Wenlock and Mandeville) but they looked much better during the Games. OK, thanks The Fuwa were into latex; Mandy and Lockjaw are into mylar. 2 different camps.
NY20??
I like them. They're not the cutest things in the world, but neither were all the characters I loved as a child, and certainly not many of the characters that kids like today. As someone said, the fact is, after an extensive process of working in focus groups with children, these were chosen. I have no doubt that they will sell sell sell. And I do in fact find them rather heart-warming. I find London's entire concept of urban regeneration through sport to be so noble, and for them to tie in these mascots’ background with that is just great. In this sense, I continue to get a sense that London knows who it is as an Olympic host. Well done.

Soaring
I like the mascots. It is something new for this generation. They seem very Pixar. But to me, they are a mixture of the below characters... Gumby Aliens from The Simpsons Silver Surfer
nobase2010
I wish they hire this guy to be their mascot:) Very cute.
nobase2010
This bulldog was very popular in Vancouver. I guess he will visit UK during the Olympic also.
Ikarus360
Of course if they'd introduced a couple of furry little animals dressed up as beefeaters, people would have moaned on and on about who old-fashioned and conservative they were and how London 2012 missed an opportunity to be a bit more innovative and challenging bla bla bla! It used to be said that there are only two certain things in life; death and taxes.I would add a third; hating the new Olympic mascot/logo! Exactly! Thats what i think of people these days. They are gonna whine and complain a way or another, but you have to learn to see the positive side of it. For a thing, i'm glad they innovated, and although its weird as the logo, i gotta admit that in contrast with that puzzle thing, they quickly grown on me. I blame that heart-warming video You forgot another certain thing in life. The Cubs will never win the World Series *is shot to death* j/k
Ikarus360
Oh guys, i just realized something.. Doesnt the one-eye thing seems a little suspicious.. Also, the small pyramid over their heads..Oh noes We were warned!
Durban Sandshark
Wow...Those two, if the toys were actually made out of metal, won't go through metal detectors. Yes, Pixar-inspired mascots seem to be the way to go. Creepy doesn't begin to describe them. The Teletubbies surely seem forgiven and sane these days compared to the London two. Come back, guys! I miss your show!
taichi
Weird but they are okay. Gee I wonder if they can have England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland colours to Mandeville. That way they can be more colourful.
taichi
Maybe Wenlock and Mandeville will meet Sochi's mascot someday.
SkiFreak
Had a good laugh at this comment on CNN: ZapBang If the one big eye is supposed to be a camera lens, they're obsolete - 3D cameras have two lenses. http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/europe/05/19/uk.olympic.mascots/index.html?iref=allsearch
Sir Rols
Between Lisa and the Logo, and the aliens for the mascots, I wonder how long before The Simpsons itself does some sly dig at the London iconography. Anyway, pretty varied and balanced response here on GB - which is good ... and unusual. Nothing like the blanket condemnation the Sochi and Innsbruck logos got. And the Brits here seem to be generally positive, which is the important thing. Anyway, I think the only audience reception that matters for the mascots is the toddlers to early-teens. And I think W&M could prove engaging for them. As Soaring said, very Pixar-era mascots, with a touch of the British sci-fi whimsy.
LuigiVercotti
Whatever the visual designers/merchandise experts are on for London 2012 where can us mere mortals get some? Right now there are landfills around Atlanta rumbling as the shades of old Izzy stuffed toys spin in their communal grave
Mr Tickle
Apparently we may have to wait til the 2 year to go mark before most of the mascot stuff hits the shops. Gonna be interesting to see what stuff they do and when the animation will start on TV, with their own website it seems like they are really putting a lot of effort in to grabbing the kids attention. Rob2012
Well, I did read the CBBC will be doing something with these. That'll be the thing that gets the kiddies hooked (or hiding behind the sofas).
gdodds
with a touch of the British sci-fi whimsy. That is a great point, that has been quite overlooked actually. Kids are loving Doctor Who and more sci-fi in general here in the UK.

FYI
Between Lisa and the Logo, and the aliens for the mascots, I wonder how long before The Simpsons itself does some sly dig at the London iconography. I can't wait for that episode!
