Pure facts
Davey, your signature graphic, are those the Official 2012 pictograms? No, they haven't been unveiled yet.
Mr Tickle
Davey, your signature graphic, are those the Official 2012 pictograms? No sorry just me playing around with the brand, I need to get out more I think LOL
Rob2012
It's good, and it proves what I was saying in the other thread about the logo working well in the right context But let's not get sidetracked about that in this thread. A Waynetta Slob video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJMUWI0z95w Anyone agree with Kev that we've found our mascot?

oakydoky
Found these on the good 'auld' internet. They are from Aaron Miller and were entries into the official London 2012 mascot competition. The final designs were based around traditional English mythical creatures and symbols. A fox, dragon, owl, unicorn, lion and bulldog. Aaron Miller illustration
Sir Rols
They look like the hybrid love-children of Beijing's Fuwa and Vancouver's critters.

Mr Tickle
I just found this its under a title of pitch for the mascots so I pressume it hasnt really gone anywhere or they would have had to sign a secrecy agreement. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=htt...t%3D18%26um%3D1

Athan
Aaron Miller's desings are really strange, especially the dragon and the unicorn. So we'll have to wait until Vancouver is finished to see the official mascot(s). They could unveil it/them to mark the 1000-day countdown, as Beijing did
Kenadian
If you are seeing a design now, you can be certain that it WON'T be the official choice. OCOGs like to make that decision on their own and they like to keep it a big secret.
777rak
No offense to anyone here, but I think one of the mascot should be a Royal Guard playing a sport, or would that offend them? If so sorry I brought it up

If so sorry I brought it up That's not offensive at all! That would certainly be very 'Londonish' and quite funky.
kevzz
Have anyone seen this video on the official website? http://www.london2012.com/blog/2009/09/18/the-best-of-us.php Though its just a promo clip, it made me thought perhaps its a great idea too if London 2012's mascot(s) are actually real human instead of the usual animals stuff. Think about Pixar's Mr Incredible this kinda 3D animated human character. Imagine if the mascots are like those characters in the video, each personifying a different character/ race/ special qualities (ala Spice Girls, Mr Incredible's family). Human mascots like those Pixar cartoon are totally loveable, adorable and sells well in terms of merchandise too!

Athan
The animation is cool but, in my opinion, the mascot shouldn't be a human. One of the mascots I dislike the most are those two children from Lillehammer 1994.
baron-pierreIV
Have anyone seen this video on the official website?http://www.london2012.com/blog/2009/09/18/the-best-of-us.php But "The Best of Us" theme is an IOC one, isn't it? Also, the colorations of the outfits of the 5 athlates coming together are off. There isn't a black outfit. The animation is cool but, in my opinion, the mascot shouldn't be a human. One of the mascots I dislike the most are those two children from Lillehammer 1994. Yeah, that one was quite unimaginative. Those and the 2004/2006 were among the most laughable mascots. NY20??
I'm expecting a human mascot or something very abstract. The 2012 brand is very inorganic and purposely dissonant. Something organic and natural like an animal wouldn't fit.

Athan
Yeah, that one was quite unimaginative. Those and the 2004/2006 were among the most laughable mascots. Torino mascots were a bit ugly, you're right! However, I didn't dislike Athens' ones as they weren't exactly humans but ancient Greek dolls. If I'm not wrong, a religious group from Greece didn't like having them as mascots and naming them as Greek gods. And about London's mascot: a design similar to Cobi (but not exactly the same idea, of course) could fit the brand. Since Barcelona 1992, mascots aren't real animals (such as Hodori, Sam or Misha) - with the exception of Sydney 2000 - so I think we shouldn't expect something like a lion dressed like a Royal Guard, for exemple, to be chosen. It could always be an abstract lion...
