Jim, can I ask a serious question. Are you dyslexic or suffering from literacy problems? It's just your posts have a total lack of grammar in them.

So you have been to Nigeria and now you are an expert on the country. I have been to many places yet do not claim to be an expert on the subject. Jim, maybe you are 'special'. lol.

Right now in Nigeria people are being slaughtered in civil war. So for you to say that Islamic law works shows you posess little knowledge.Maybe you should move from Nova Scotia to a mud hut in Nigeria Jim since you love it so much. lol. I'm sure Canadians would be happy to see you leave. You would need to convert to Islam however Jim so you would probably have no time to post on gamesbid forums since you would be praying 5 times a day.

ROFL!!!

You keep banging on about Rangers etc. Every city has violence. Nigeria however has a civil war with immense swathes of poverty. To try and compare Scotland or the UK to a third world country is just stupid. Jim, when you say things like that, that is when everybody on the gamesbid forums laughs at you.

I won't embarrass you mate by saying publicly something I was told about you by another poster. It did make me burst out laughing however.

50% of Nigerians live below the poverty line. Please reference these facts from the BBC and backed by the UN mate:

Maybe you should get yourself better source of news besides the BBC because The UK was in a Real Civil war fro a Couple of Decades in Northern Ireland but hry I am slandering the perfect Race or former colonialists . Thing is I have been There along with many places . Great People in Nigeria who in total make a population Twice as large then all the People of the each of the following Commonwealth regions Americas , Europe, Oceania and the Caribbean for theeir Commonwealth Nations.

Oh By the way I will prempt you now with your little so called secret . The living with Parents and working for Microsoft at a call centre . there you go NEXT Idiotic NED. Like most things things change with time . LOL

jim jones

P.S. Some men collect car magazines. But Jim Jones collects 'bad' photos of Glasgow so that he can try and malign the city on forums. How sad is that. Everyone, Jim Jones is a grown man and actively collects photos of cities he does not like so that he can come online and bash them. He admitted this. One word for that.....................WEIRDO!!!!!

Greetings from Scotland Jim - home nation to the Glasgow 2014 CWG.

Yeah look yourself in the mirror and THink . WAs my bid so great that I had to award 50 scholarships to 50 students from the developing commonwealth nations LOL. A FACT printed in Glasgow News papers.

So this lack of infrastructure in Abuja Just wondering How much have they built since glasgow Abandoned three cross highway footbridges and a major ring road . I have the pictures on that as well which are not hard to find as one of your country men has a great website on the foillies of Scottish infrastructure waiting decades to be complete. While Glasgow didn't complete these little tasks a City rose out of Central Nigeria to be the new Capital with up to date planning on the way in the age of the Automobile. Funny how those backward people somehow Staged a games of 6000 Athletes While Scotland has never done that . Funny how they indeed have more hotel capacity as well built since 1991 and probably around the 20th anniversery some of Glasgows Bridges to nowhere being started.

Jim Jones

HA HA Jim. Are you having a hissy fit mate ?

ROFL.

You keep mentioning theses footbridges. what do they have to do with the commonwealth games. Nigeria mud huts are more od a concern however as is their lack of roads, housing, running water, infant mortality rate, diseas and the fact that they are an oppressed country in the middle of civil war. Jim, you really need to get your facts straight as everyone on these forums is laughing at you.

Every year Scotland hosts the biggest arts festival in the world - Edinburgh festival. Further, we take in millions of tourists also. Scotland hosts multiple commonwealth games, Champions league football, greatest golf events in the world, sell out rugby internationals, international gymnastics and athletics. The worlds top musicians frequent Scotland as a matter of course as it is out of this world.

Furthe, Scotland has the highest academic output in the world - we have the best school education system in the world and most acclaimed higher education system in the world. I f people are ill we have the NHS - a welfare healthcare system. A nation this good is an asset to hosting major sporting events.

Scotland has invented more innovation of 'high intelligence' proportionatly than any nation on earth. With barely 6 million people it is amazing how successful Scotland is - and how loved she is around the world. Go to the United states, Australia, Nova Scotia in Canada, France, Germany and New Zealand. Got to the Orient and to South America - Scotland is appreciated all over the world.

And your still trying to compare the mud huts in Nigeria with the splendor that is Scotland.

Glasgow is undertaking one of the largest urban regeneration projects in the world - ask yourself why the world's top architects Norman Foster, David Chipperfield and Zaha Hadid all chose Glasgow as places to express their work.

Funny how Scotland does all this while Nigeria cannot (I'm paraphrasing you here) lol.

My blessings go out to the people of Nigeria during this difficult time. Let's not pretend however that the Nation is a paradise. It is not.

P.S. You are a grown man and collect photos of Glasgow to try and malign the city in online forums. Mate, do you have a girlfriend? No 'normal' man does those kind of things. You are a grown man and collect 'bad' photos to try and mock cities online instead of enetering healthy dialogue.

Everybody is laughing at you due to the fact that you do this. I f you could read some of my PM's you would see what I mean. No one likes you because you try and cause conflict by telling lies.

Go and get and girlfriend or boyfriend if you are gay - that way you won't have so much free time to make a fool of yourself.

A better source of news besides the BBC?

The BBC is the world's number 1 broadcaster. All the facts are backed by the United Nations.

Jim, I know you are annoyed because I am owning you in the verbal tongue lashing department - But you are a grown man; have some self respect and stop telling porky pies.

Are you trying to tell me you live with your parents and work for a call centre Jim? - theres nothing wrong with that. Just try and get a girlfriend/boyfriend so that you don't spend so much time online starting silly fights. Everyone is laughing at you.

Why not try and go outdoors and get a social life Jim? There must be parks in Nova Scotia surely? Ot are you banned from them? lol.

I apprecite your usage of the Scottish word NED. For someone who hates Scotland you sure do know a lot about it. I wouldn't describe you as a NED however - just a sad little man who gets off on collecting pictures of cities he does not like. I would say that you are, and I'm giving you a proverbial Scottish word here Jim; I would say that you are a knob-end.

ROFL.

There is hardly a family in Nigeria living in a Mud Hut.

You might be right there:

Nigeria bulldozes slums to polish capital

ABUJA, July 23 (Reuters) - Scavenging through mounds of rubble in Nigeria's capital Abuja, Usman Landam plucks out the biggest mud blocks he can find, determined to rebuild his two-bedroom hut after government bulldozers knocked it down.

Landam's plight illustrates a stark discrepancy lurking at the heart of the world's eighth biggest crude exporter.

As oil prices surge, producer nations are reaping heady financial rewards. But in many of those countries, only a few are lifted by the swell while millions more are buffeted by waves of food and fuel inflation.

Or in Landam's case, swept aside by the new wealth.

"My house used to be there," the 25-year-old said, pointing to the pile of crushed rocks, splintered wood and corrugated metal left after his home was destroyed last month.

"I hope to make a new home for my wife and child, but it will take some time," he added.

The OPEC member nation's government says homes in the shanty towns around Abuja, most of which lack electricity or piped water, are illegal and do not fit into its master plan to develop a prestigious capital.

Like most Nigerians, Landam cannot afford to live in the sumptuous villas and apartments that have been built in Abuja, one of the most expensive cities in Africa.

Instead they are relegated to shanty towns, like Toge, on Abuja's fringes -- dusty settlements of homes, schools, churches and bars that have become a major irritant to a government bent on creating a pristine city.

Nigeria, which produces 2 million barrels of oil a day, is spending hundreds of millions of dollars modernising Abuja, a mixture of office blocks, luxury hotels and huge mansions surrounded by granite hills.

Many poorer Nigerians resent Abuja's development at the expense of other regions and see it as an artificial, sanitised city where even "okadas" -- the cheap motorcycle taxis that are the most popular form of transport in Lagos -- are banned.

Its grandeur is also a world away from most Nigerians' lives: of the country's 140 million people, nine out of 10 live on less than $2 a day, according to U.N. statistics. They struggle with a lack of water and electricity, appalling roads and crumbling public services.

"Abuja is for the politicians and millionaires. It's not for the ordinary man," said Isaiah Ayuba, a 20-year-old living in Gosa Sariki, a shanty town near the international airport.

TALE OF TWO CITIES

The authorities have demolished more than 800,000 homes in slums around Abuja since 2003, according to the Swiss-based Centre on Housing Rights and Evictions (COHRE).

"The people living in these villages are not just the poor, but also the middle-class -- lawyers, police officers," said Deanne Fowler, a senior research officer at COHRE, which has urged President Umaru Yar'Adua to halt the evictions.

"There is no affordable housing for Nigerians working in Abuja," she said.

The government says it does not want Abuja, the pet project of successive leaders since the days of military rule, to end up like the sprawling urban mess of the former capital, Lagos, a crime-ridden city of more than 10 million people.

It first drew up plans for Abuja in the 1970s during a global oil shock which swelled the nation's coffers as crude prices rocketed.

The aim was to create an accessible city in the centre of the country, somewhere "ethnically neutral" and thus immune to sporadic, deadly bursts of religious and tribal violence, to replace the chaos of Lagos as the seat of government.

In 1976, it created the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), an 8,000 square km (3,088 sq mile) region within which all land came under control of the central government.

Buildings without planning permission were destroyed and villages bulldozed to make way for huge government office blocks and luxury hotels on a grid of four-lane highways. Abuja finally became the federal capital in 1991.

But the development forced residents out into impromptu satellite towns that the authorities are now seeking to raze.

"The moment we relent and allow shanty towns they will keep growing and growing to the point where we can't do anything about them so we thought it would be better to nip it in the bud," FCT minister Aliyu Modibbo told Reuters.

"People have to obey the laws otherwise we'll have slums and shanties all over just like Lagos, Brazil, Rio De Janeiro, Mexico ... These slums breed crime and all unfortunate things that make life impossible for law-abiding citizens," he said.

X MARKS THE SPOT

Modibbo said most of those evicted around Abuja were unemployed squatters who had moved in from other regions.

He said the government had resettled 20,000-30,000 indigenous families throughout the FCT territory over the past 15 years and would continue to move more to low-cost housing.

But many have simply been pushed to slums further and further away from the bulldozers' tracks.

Residents estimate that around 2,000 people lived in Toge before the earthmovers, escorted by dozens of armed police officers, arrived in June and razed hundreds of homes belonging to those born outside Abuja.

One person died and two were wounded when fighting broke out, they say. Now, only about 500 people remain, their homes spared because they were born in the area.

Landam was born in Abuja and his home was demolished by accident. He has received no compensation.

The authorities say residents were alerted months before by police who marked any home to be destroyed with a large red X.

But despite the warnings, Sunday Isaac and many others stayed in Toge because they could not afford to move. Isaac sent his wife and four children to the northern city of Kaduna to live with his brother but remained to protect his livelihood.

"I prefer to stay here because of my market," he said outside his rented one-room mud hut, where he sells eggs, flour and lentils, and is now forced to sleep.

"I'll need another house so my family can come back."

The more I've read about this city, thanks to you Jim :) , the less I've thought it a suitable place for any global sporting event. The contrasts between rich and poor are stark, it's like Beijing but to the nth degree. Whether you think the UK is a great place or not (and we all know the answer to that particular question don't we?) is completely and utterly irrelevent to discussing Abuja in the future. Glasgow has no relevence to "Future African bids" which is what this topic is about. So, if your beloved city bids for 2018, it won't be Brits you'll have to accuse of being racist for posting such articles as the one above.

But, the fact is Jim, whoever Abuja bids against, these issues, these articles and forumers like NoNigeria won't go away. They'll keep cropping up and you pointing out real (or imaginary) deficiences of rival bids won't make them go away.

You convinced virtually nobody of Abuja's case last time round. Better luck this time Jim... B)

So lets think of this the Largest Populated Commonwealth Nation in Africa is no qualified yet South Africa who has pulled two bids since Apartheid is ? South Africa is as Qualified but really then don't have the desire .

After that Ghana , Cameroon, Tanzania , Kenya perhaps. But hey we would not want a nation with a Black leader hosting the symbol of former british colonialism would we ?

Jim - nobody is mentioning 'race' except you. If Abuja improves it's bid and it's social/economic status then millions of people would love to see it host.

Nigeria having the largest population in the commonwealth is irrelevant - what is relevant is that it's people are dying in a civil war right now due to Islamic doctrine. What is also relevant is that over 50% of people live below the breadline. Those issue need tackling first before staging the commonwealth games in my opinion.

Yeah Right Bigot . There is no Civil war Toad . Yah you opinion is that your little bung hole of a place has absolutely no problems . How about actually completing simple Projects . That is totally relevent to staging a games . You care jack about Africans except to express a false since that you won something over them . http://m8motorway.tripod.com/m8_glasgow_j20.htm

Improve its social/economic status ? my word it is so bad in Lagos Nigeria that the Financial sector is not having Nigerian diaspora come back from the London Financial district with jobs making them more money then they did in London. Your an utterly ignorant person really with a great number of Assumptions based in Scottish Mythology .

Lets keep the Commonwealth Games in the WHITE NATIONS for EVERY so this guy can have an event that he might be able to sit in Imbrox if he is a Celtic Fan with a lesser likelihood of getting Stabbed.

Jim, Rangers FC's stadium is called 'Ibrox', not 'Imbrox' as you say.

Mate, you have just highlighted everyones point: you are the only one talking about race! You just proved it in that post. lol.

Further, if the commonwealth games are so crap why are you upsetting yourself over the fact that Abuja has not hosted them? You keep moaning to me - why don't you send a letter of complaint to the commonwealth games council?

Saying someone is something (that I am ignorant) does not make it true. You make 'blanket' statements without evidence to support them. Every poster here agrees with me on this issue. You are the one displaying racism, prejudice and ignorance given that in every post you have tried to malign Scotland or Scottish culture.

The moderators have been warned of your actions Jim - you are inferring that Scottish people are sub-standard, drug takers (you told me to take a pill as it's common in Scotland) and that people are routinely stabbed. All racist remarks not based in truth.

So Jim, why are you racist against Scottish people are indeed white people. Every post you make maligns 'the white man'. You are a racist Jim. Everyone on these forums knows it. You are also an internet troll.

I could care very much less about the voices in your head . Scottish Culture is a Culture that has its great moments of Violence but hey one would not want to read a history book crying and complaining Oh he is a Racist OH the Canadians are trying to ruin our bid by running a documentary on the Youth Knife culture in the streets of Glasgow Scotland . What a bunch of Whinners with absolutely no concept of how that happens with a CBC in Toronto running a documentary that was not unlike the Documentary on the very same subject run by Sky TV in the UK . We would not like to let out the dirty little secrets. Barely a Person there would know there was a Commonwealth Games bid in Halifax. What would there interest be ? Being the host broadcaster of a Games No body watches in Canada ? a money losing dog for the CBC even when Melbourne Paid to have a highlight show broadcast to keep up the claims of commonwealth Wide exposure.

By the way got some news on the Mod thing Ask Rob or Roltel they have complained in the past and I am sure they accept that you open up a can of worms and you can look for my viewpoint . If you think it is a Anti Glasgow Rave No . The issue is I bring Actual facts based in research which in some cases are public domain sourced in the very newspapers you probably line a hamster cage with every second day. I get them everyday online. I know what goes on with Glasgow Scotland out of the lips of your own journalists.

Why can't I Report you for this complete invention about a Civil War in Nigeria ? That is utterly false and have never been wored that way by any media Outlet including the BCC ?.

how about the Muslim Dictator Thing ?

Sure I could report you for your incredible bias against an African hosting in Nigeria. You know why I don't for this one reason I am right and you are very very wrong in practically everything do have stated from the day you arrived here . I am pretty sure if I was not making highly informed statements I have been making since 2006 then you would have a mutual love fest of the first world bid lovers which would be totally boring. get a clue I disagree with rob and others and most time state FACTS no OH a Uefa Five Star is what a Commonwealth Games Needs for an athletics Stadium . Are you indeed that ignorant ? when was UEFA going around to Canada, Jamaica , India , Australia , New Zealand and Malaysia Approving they stadiums for the commonwealth games ? A Rectangle Stadium for Soccer is not required to stage the commonwealth games even with the Rugby Sevens Event as was shown in 2002 when they played it in the Main stadium .

Again for the Newbie a UEFA star Stadium does not Equal a IAAF Class One Stadium statement of fact . Again for the Newbie According to the Independent ASUP Engineers as main contractors of the 2002 manchester stadium scrapped plans for a Scaffolding Tartan Field as unworkable . New Wembley made the same choice based on the engineering studies carried out by ASup . Good luck getting the Scaffolding Tartan Field built to a standard that it will actually get approved to the required SPEC . A UEFA Stadium even with the Bowl configuration will do the Commonwealth Games Federation no good if what I see via research occurs . The games I will not doubt will be moved to London .

Mate, the whole documentary thing does not include me. So why are you mentioning it as if it was me that said that. I wasn't even a member of games bid forums when that was going on. Can you not see how that comes accross as silly when you align me with things other people said years ago. Also, I never said Scotland was perfect. Yet again you are putting words in my mouth.

You keep banging on about the temporary track - it has been APPROVED by the IAAF. Like it or not experts have approved it. Get over it. Hampden has a large infield area and relatively little modification is needed. But you will ignore those facts. I mean, you said in a previous post that Glasgow's athletes village will not be started until 2011 - however, I educated you and gave you a link to show the village preparation was underway in 2008. Can you admit you were WRONG?

You are RACIST - you are trying to mock Scotland based on stereotypes. Saying you get stabbed in Glasgow is stereotyping a nation. You can get stabbed anywhere and it is not exclusive to Glasgow. Infact, people are being stabbed as we speak in Nigeria - but you would chose to ignore that!

It is a FACT that Nigeria is amidst a civil war. So, go and report me for stating a fact. Heres a link to educate yourself Jim:

The 2009 Nigerian civil war

So, to say that no news outlet has reported it is WRONG. Can you accept you are WRONG Jim? Everyone can see you are telling lies!

And you hate Scotland so much but trust our journalists - isn't that an OXYMORON?

And mate, you can't report someone for stating a preferance about a bid city. I do not support Abujas bid. That is my right and it is subjective. You keep trying to BULLY people into your way of thinking. You don't support Glasgow (that's fine and your right). But what you do is racially mock Scottish culture using stereotypes. When I criticise Nigerias bid I use facts.

Example:

Jim Jones - You get stabbed in Glasgow. And some Scottish people do drugs therefore the whole of Scotland are druggies. I hate the country...

Oakydoky - Nigeria is in the midst of a civil war. I think it is unstable to host a sports championship there as I worry about the social impact that civil war could have on the foreign athletes.

See the difference mate.

Ask yourself why no one agrees with you. It's because you try and cause trouble.

Why don't you stop hijacking poeples threads and start an Abuja one - that way you talk about your favourite city without hijacking threads. And why do you keep going on about Glasgow. This thread is about the 2018 bid.

Again your newbie lack of knowledge shows . A Plan can be approved in principle. A Surface and the rate of energy Return has to be Proved in IAAF Lab for the required approval . There is yet to be a Scaffolding Tartan Track anywhere in the world for an outdoor event and there will not be before Glasgow 2014 . Beijing 2008 did not get sign off from the IAAF to have class one status until Spring of 2008 after the surface was laid down and settled . There is no problem when you are dealing with a Concrete on solid ground or Piling Supported as it is rock stable . A scaffolding with Concrete on it with joints ? This Scheme is to cost Glasgow 2014 60 million pounds and they will not know if it works until the eve of the games and if it does not work whether anything can be done to correct problems. Solid Ground has a track record and no learning curve with a first time experiment. There are two major IAAF Tartan track suppliers Conica and Mondo .

Glasgow 2014 would be the first to experiment with Athletes that could result in Injuries. Does that not sound risky going into the totally unknown? When a Leading Firm in sports Venue engineering Located in London rejects this for the 2002 Games after great amounts of research then one really has to question Derek Casey and what he actually did in Manchester because he would have to have come late in the process of Manchester 2002 to not know this. Do you think the Asian Bolt of Athletics in 2014 will show up with what could be in jeopardy with his running career with an experience at the Commonwealth Games because Glasgow does not have a Bonfide IAAF Stadium in the real sense ? His management and sponsors would porobably say pass on it young man .

No one argues with me because I actually do my homework and have for a long while. Some so Called Experts end up proposing incredibly stupid concepts like Scaffolding for an IAAF event in a Rectangle Soccer Stadium thats footprint is 150 meters in length from the end zone stands outer walls . You have to have 180 to 190 meters at least just on the floor for a Tartan Filed . This concept floated would have to have the wall of a brand new soccer stadium torn out or the Scaffolding rising above the roof line of the stadium to actually work without tearing the stadium apart.

The same person proposed a 333 meter outdoor concrete veldorme for the Commonwealth Games . that standard was dropped after Victoria 1994 and the Standard now is 250 metres , Indoor , Baltic Birch and schuermann is the preferred contractor which is incredible considering it goes outside the Commonwealth when Ron Webb is Australia having done work for Two Summer Olympic Games.

This civil war crap in Nigeria What about Edinburgh Staging in 1986 in the ERA when the IRA Blew up Palace Guardsmen ? Yeah it is ok for the UK to say oh you should not stage games in the future Because of every excuse but hey we can stage the Games when we cant even stop a fireboming attack on Glasgow international Airporrt. Things like that can happen everywhere but I know from Being in Abuja that the cops don't go around without guns and all of them have AK 47s either on them or in their cars . Wrestle a Glasgow airport bomber to the ground because you don't have sidearms PIFF .

So basically, in conclusion you acknowledge that Glasgow is pioneering and groundbreaking with it's new track. Also, Northern Ireland is a different country to Scotland. But a man with your intellect surely knows that. You are wrong about the costings though - it will cost £21 million pounds to install the track and upgrade Hampden. Again, I'm sure your mistake was just a typo as the great Jim Jones never makes mistakes! Imagine confusing 60 million with 21 million. What kind of idiot does that?

Anyway, I digress..................

So Jim, what can you tell us about Abuja's 2018 bid of which you may be elected to the committee? And please don't mention Glasgow 2014 as you have already enlightened us enough with your immense intellect.

So, in the Africa bid forum what can you tell us about the African bid?

LOL That was Figure I got for Glasgow 2014 and the Scaffolding came right from their press releases printed in Glasgow news papers. Considering Scotstoun they budgeted about 10 million pounds for in theri bid documents and they only had one company bid 17.5 million to make over that Sports Venue who knows it could be a misprint by the paper or the price is actually that high. the City council believed they could mussel a Property developer off a key peice of East End Land meant for the games for a Mere 3.5 million pounds with a government seizure but ended up paying close to 10 million I would say Glasgow the city has made some wrong assumptions . Who made the Assumptions that counter what one of the leading UK engineering firms in this type of thing to the point of the Beijing 2008 olympics ? The firm said it could not be done in 1999 for the 2002 games or the New Wembley Stadium ?

The last thing I will say on Glasgow in regards to this Plan is that experiments are meant for laboratories not sports festivals that Athletes could injure themselves at the hands of people experimenting with their earning potential for sponsorship in the future. Million are spent on marketing a top athlete like a Asian Bolt . risking that for a commonwealth games would not be in the best interests of the athlete , the sport or the sponsors and promoters of the sport. I see a promoter for a IAAF event running the same summer saying don't risk it you appearance fee for my event is in jeopardy.

As much as anyone would think a games in Glasgow is great (not saying it can't be a great games as I am sure it will be hopefully ) one huge advantage in the minds of Sports Admins for the Glasgow bid always was that it is in Europe with hardly any flight duration time for Track and Field Athletes doing the European track meet season. Abuja or any place would have a disadvantage when going against a European based candidate city because of the location to the bread and butter of Athletics Competitors during the Summer. I learned that from one of the Most Experienced Sport Admins in the business who happens to have voted for Abuja. We are in contact on a regular basis and he told me about Flight durations being an influencing factor on voting. Thats why at Banjul for the Commonwealth Games Federation the Word on Australian Cities voicing bid intentions was meant in the Halls with the words "australia not again !!!" This is why African delagate were badgering Nigeria's OC President to encourage Abuja to bid for 2018.

Sir Roltel can say I would be flinging the same stuff at Gold Coast if lets say they won over a repeating Abuja for the Games . Not so really . Ron Clarke is much more of a polite and respectful man to not engage in some of the things that came out of the North in Regards to Abuja. If that result happened would say it seems that former White Athletes who took part in the commonwealth games decades ago have total sway over this for some reason and that would be a statement of Fact with Louise Martin A former Swimmer for Scotland at the Perth 1962 games leading the Glasgow 2014 bid while being a member of the Federation Executive.

Gold Coast or Auckland have a major historical problem that is Air flight Durations if there is any candidate from the America's, Europe, Caribbean or even Africa. The furthest west a losing city competing against a winning Oceania Candidate has been in 77 degrees East Longitude or New Delhi, India. Australia has never won a bid for the Commonwealth Games internationally let alone vs an Opponent West of New Delhi like Auckland did for the 1990 games . Australia could not even win vs a candidate with no stadium or many of the games venues in her own Neighborhood mainly Kuala Lumpar VS Adelaide for 1998.

Christchurch lost to Edinburgh for the 1970 games and nothing really has changed in regards to the 26 hour flight duration from Europe or the European Track season except the money is probably a bigger factor today. the distance factor is so bad for Australia and New Zealand that the body governing England's Athletics competitors almost banned their athletes from Attending Melbourne 2006. With 51 votes in the Americas, Caribbean, Europe and Africa if the sole option in their part of the world is Abuja then it may be very clear. 8 hours London to Abuja is way easier then 26 hours to Gold Coast. Abuja got 24 votes in 2007 . 10 votes that probably voted for Glasgow don't have a dog in the hunt for 2018 because under Regulation B, Section 2, Item C in the Commonwealth Games Federation's constitution, the games may not be held twice consecutively in the same region, unless no credible bids are presented from the other five regions. so thanks Glasgow your win provides no European Candidate for Abuja .

Credible bids will be presented and Abuja may be one of them along with Gold Coast and Auckland. A possible split of Asia and Oceania for Australia and New Zealand may do neither any good if Abuja does what Christchurch or Edinburgh both did in the 1960's winning on the second attempt increasing their knowledge base and gaining key knowledge from their 2014 bid experience.

then there is what I have proposed to my friends in Abuja which would be historic for any sports festival dealing with Flight Durations . Even if the Oceania Candidate did the exact same thing they still have they geographic position as their worst enemy and Abuja has it as their best friend. Abuja 2018 Centre Point of the Commonwealth Remember that / It may be coming to a bid near you LOL.

Oh in regards to African Bids . Ghana , Cameroon , Kenya, South Africa and Tanzania if they actually take the plunge and Bid like Rhodesia did for 1966 or Abuja for 2014.

Jim, when your not attacking people you make good points.

We all know you like Abuja and believe it or not, people would like to see it host. To take pride in Abuja does not require you to slag off Glasgow which objectively has a terrific bid and indeed sporting infrastructure.

Perhaps you can steer the topic back on track and actually post about African bids.

P.S.The whole Hampden track issue is being way overblown - the temporary track is approved by the IAAF. Hampden's infield is already nearly big enough for a track and little modification is needed. Comparing the situation to Manchester 2002 is not really valid as The city of Manchester stadium is smaller and a different configuration to Hampden. A different kettle of fish altogether.

Yeah it is a Different configuration to Hampden for some very simple reasons it had two purposes A. the Main Athletics Stadium of the Commonwealth Games to then be converted into a Soccer Rectangle for Manchester City as a After Games Tennant . Two ways were proposed . The IAAF White Paper forwarding Scaffolded Surfaces which they hoped London would do with a redevelopment of Wembley or retractable seating to cover the area where the Track would be either kept or torn up . The former is the same type of system was Paris' Stade to France has . Manchester 2002 on the Wisdom of one of your top engineering firms took the advise that technically it cannot be done with Scaffolding. No one except Glasgow 2014 has followed that White Paper by the IAAF to actually be the first to stick their head in the vise to learn what the problems will be and how you fit them to get the labs to actually approve. The IAAF has in the cases of 2002 and 2006 scheduled IAAF meets seemingly to foul the Commonwealth Games . I am pretty sure Mr Lamine would love nothing more then to cause the games their demise.

The Scaffolding Idea was floated by the IAAF in a White Paper that I have actually read and it is more a wish floating possible ways to do it not based in any engineering research what so ever. A Track is never approved until it actually exists and is tested for the characteristics the IAAF require. Can you get that through your thick head ? you have an Agreement in Principle that is about it.

An Existing IAAF rated Venue must be retested once every ten years if there are not IAAF Events and on a continued basis if you are running events regular to have their stamp on the Event. I read the Reports and since my involvment with this forum Abuja National Stadium has been listed Twice as Class one IAAF certified. They hold annual national events and occasionally IAAF international events which happened this past month as an invitational .

If your Stadium Staff don't maintain the surface then you are delisted as is the case with Kuala Lumpar's Main Stadium for 1998 which still has its track in tack . Edmonton has its track in tack from the 1978 Commonwealth Games and it was refurbed for the 1983 universiade . When that City Won the rights for the 2001 World Athletics championships they again resurfaced and re certified this time with a new compound that has become the Class one Standard since 2000. Kuala Lumpars surface has probably not be delisted because of lack of maintenance but because they probably haven't updated to the new compound that Edmonton had to Host the 2001 Worlds.

Hampdem could have avoided all this when they redeveloped in the late 1990s by configuring a completely rebuilt stadium to a IAAF configuration but the overwhelming force that prevents that is the Soccer authorities in Scotland who moan about the distance the fans are away from the pitch. a compromise was arrived at 6 running lanes with no jumping pits in the Stadium .

Hampden had to have a dispensation for 2014 simply because their proposal cannot have the real IAAF configuration that has the Jumping event pits on the Outside of the running Tracks not the inside. Meadowbank in Edinburgh has that and would be the only stadium in Scotland which you could have a Bonfida IAAF event with just a resurface on what exists.

Slag off Glasgow ? Holly Crap Civil Wars that don't exist in Nigeria , your false concern for the social and economic being of the Nigerian People . Gee why don't you pressure your government to pay reparations for your ancestors profiting of the Slave trade in that part of the world that had auctions in Town Squares in Glasgow Scotland.

It was a man from a part of the Gulf of Guinea Area that is now part of Nigeria that Raised the Morality of the whites in the empire to finally end slavery. That man was Olaudah Equiano, or, Gustavus Vassa, the African .

What would you have to contribute to a Topic of Future African Bids ? Oh they should not host until they adopt ever nutty ideology of Western Europe ? Gosh by the time Africa or the Caribbean got around to adopting Gay Marriage you people would be on to Marrying yourself to Farm animals and Enfant Humans. I swear

The Theory that Europe has some type of Moral high ground with Anything counters its very bloody history.

where is that bright and cute Nigerian boy, james, when you need him???

James like many Nigerian Youth is attending college in Nigeria to then be sent by the family to a university in places like America , the UK , Canada or any other western nation . i am amazed actually at the amount of Education a part of Nigerian Society does get and how far they go with it . Now you have Students now only staying in Diaspora in countries they got Degrees but a good amount returning to build Nigeria with their new skills.

Everyone That I know of James Age in Nigeria is in the same mode and that is good for the country. President Yar Adua is the first President of Nigeria with University Degrees that have absolutely nothing to do with Military educations.

You start off making an excellent post Jim. Gradually, towards the end it descends into attack yet again on Scotland and Europe. Why Jim? No-one was insulting you or Africa. There was no need for you mock white, Scottish people by saying: "you people would be on to Marrying yourself to Farm animals and Enfant Humans". How disgusting for a grown man to say such things. Again, it has no relevance to the topic at hand and is completely unprovoked. Why are you talking normally one minute then mentioning pedophilia the nest. SICK!

I have already gave you the post to prove to you that factually speaking, Nigeria is in indeed experiencing civil war. Here it is again Jim to refresh your memory:

2009 Nigerian civil war

I actually live near Meadowbank so know it well. Also, whilst Hampden long jump pit may be on the infield, this was the same for the 1995 world athletics championships in Gothenberg which had it's long/triple jump on the infield. Again, approved by the IAAF Jim.

your actually quoting a Blog in regards to a situation in Nigeria ? Blogs are cyber spaces version of Propaganda . that is the view of the author according to what type of uppers he got in the Orange work Orange.

1995 ? Don't you think Standards for presentation of Events Change with the IAAF ? A Prime example is the Largest Capacity IAAF Class one stadium in the Commonwealth Ever here of it ? Abuja National Stadium . Jumping areas outside the track that is now 9 lanes in requirement compared with 8 lanes prior. The German Designers actually have 10 lanes on the main straight and can expand that in a week by painting the lines for the curves and back straight . 'Public sector jobs will have to be axed'

THE SNP Government will have to cut a raft of public sector jobs to cope with the recession, one of Alex Salmond's key economic advisers warned last night.

Professor John Kay has said Salmond and his Finance Secretary John Swinney will have to take some deeply unpopular decisions after the General Election if they are to achieve long-term economic stability.

Kay, one of Britain's leading economists and a member of Salmond's 11-strong Council of Economic Advisers, said that public sector employees would not be immune from the swingeing job losses that will be inflicted on Scotland over the next few years.

Economists have predicted that workers in the civil service, local authorities and defence will bear the brunt of the pain with around 6,000 jobs being lost from those areas by 2012.

Unlike Labour and the Conservatives at Westminster, the SNP administration has not explicitly pledged that health and education budgets will be exempt from budget cuts, although ministers have said those two areas will be regarded as spending priorities.Yeah that is some SNP that would have a firestorm on their hands if they were stupid enough to cut Health and Education for a Commonwealth Games but hey they have the money after all they are pan handling in westminster for 150 million

So much for the Welfare State that is so wonderful the UK can't afford it

Kay, a fellow of St John's College, Oxford, and a visiting professor at the London School of Economics, said there would be "no alternative" to significant cuts in Scotland's budget over the next five years. When asked if Swinney would have to cut jobs in the public sector, Kay replied: "Yes."

Gee what does the population need here Health care and Schools or the Commonwealth Games , Have to make up ones mind either way

"We are talking about some really tough choices both for the UK and Scotland – looking ahead. And it is not as if it were Scotland's fault.

"Indeed, bluntly, Scotland has been messed around, because Scotland did extremely well up to 2006 and things are going to be unreasonably rough for Scotland looking forward and that's the product of the mismanagement of UK public finances over the period. But we have to live with that fact."

Kay added: "John Swinney's going to have to look at everything. The whole structure of public expenditure in Scotland is going to be up for grabs in a big and serious way."

So the Commonwealth Games and the basic civic infrastructure that has been deferred over decades for Transportation will take priority over 6000 layed off Public service workers , Health and Education programs ?

Kay said that the reality of the situation was that tackling Scotland's inflated public sector would not be considered until after a new government is installed after the General Election, as the current UK administration was not facing up to the difficult financial situation.

Well Hey if you think you are getting handouts is hard how from the labor government try the Tories in Westminster then ask how the bail out ask went for Edinburgh 1986 with Thatcher

He added: "The Scottish problem is a backlash of a UK problem. You've got to be clear about that. This isn't a mess that the Scottish Government – either this one or the previous one – created. But it is a mess that the Scottish Government will have to deal with."

Research by Ernst and Young's Scottish Item Club predicts that the number of Scots employed in public administration and defence will drop from last year's level of 158,000 to 152,000 in 2012.

Dougie Adams, an independent economic consultant and adviser to the Item Club, said: "We probably have a time of real public sector restraint coming and even if we attempt to protect health and education the implications for things like local authorities are pretty dire."

and who is the largest local authority in Scotland ? I would say probably the city of Glasgow who can't seem to sell lands to fund their part of the Commonwealth Games at 20 percent while the SNP is in for 80 percent with their budget not just coming from taxes in Scotland

"Budgets are under enormous pressure and there are going to be lots of arguments about public sector pay and conditions and even pensions."

so pensioners will be asked to hurt for the Commonwealth Games to be staged

Public sector job cuts would hit Scotland hard, since about one in four working people are employed by the state.

One in Four yeah that is some economy to then ask to perhaps pony up when the games indeed go to 5 times the estimate in the end . It happened with Manchester, Melbourne and will happen with New Delhi

In 2007-8, 56 per cent of economic activity in Scotland flowed from public spending, compared with 43 per cent across the UK.

7-8 56 percent of economic activity flowed from public spending ? So what percentage will it be with Northern Rock, RBS and HBOS all collapsed and or owned by the tax payers ?

Last night the SNP claimed that Kay's analysis boosted their argument for independence and control over Scottish finances.

That is a joke It has to be 56 percent of spending in the scottish eonomy being public while you had a financial sector privately. got so news for you that is bad 2012 London will drive the UK economy into another recession as the host country jinx has only skipped two nations hosting the games Germany in 1936 and the US for 1996

A spokesman for Swinney said: "This is exactly why Scotland needs to gain responsibility for our own finances, and why we need as much clout as possible by electing SNP MPs, because it is clear that either a Tory or Labour government would slash public spending after the next election."

so what would be the sources of your income in Scotland . The Northern Rock Bank , Johnnie Walker , The ship yard that was to do aircraft carriers for the queens navy ? the offshore oil and gas in the North sea that is in decline and will shutt down in the mid 2010's ?

Last month Treasury figures revealed that departmental expenditure in Scotland would be cut by 1 per cent in 2010-11 from £27.746 bn to £27.451 bn.

It was calculated that the money available to the Scottish Government to be spent on services such as health, education and transport would fall by almost £300 million next year.

Yeah sounds like a country looking to complete ring roads that have been on the planning books for decades and at the same time do a spur line to the airport that the transport people say may be done for 2014. high speed rail was to be between Edinburgh and Glasgow for the games as well adn then after they were awarded it turned out to be a lie

But Andy Kerr, Labour's finance spokesman, said that the SNP Government had more funds than ever before. Labour has argued argues that the Scottish budget of £34.8 bn was double that given to Donald Dewar in 1999.

Kerr said: "John Swinney has been given access to more funds from the UK Government and he has spent the budget with no eye to the future.

"(He] needs to learn how to make tough decisions about how he spends our money."

This takes the cake you are saying you need money and the people you are going cap in hand to you are saying screwed things up and we would be much better off if we separated ? There are terms with a Divorce and the English always come out the better of the deal . They know how to screw former colonies over .

hey good luck in a recession that will come of the Uk after the London 2012 Games . you will also be in line with London 2012, England 2015 and perhaps the World cup in 2018 for sponsorship money for a limited exposure event called the commonwealth games. last time they were held in the UK Manchester without any events around it on the calender in the Uk couild not even meet half their sponsorship budget of 55 million pounds. with this news and the great victories south of the broader a separated Scotland will suffer for their economy and the Commonwealth Games. the Question get answered clearer now as to why the delay on building venues in Glasgow from the original proposals

LOL

Jim, Edmonton's stadium in your home country has a larger capacity than Abuja's stadium. It also hosted the world athletics championships in 2001.

Edmonton - 60,081

Abuja - 60,000

Just thought I would correct you there bro!

Jim, again your ramblings have nothing to do with the topic at hand.

Jim, just focus your attention on Abuja and give my blessings to your friends in Nigeria when you next visit! Tell them that Scotland wishes them the best in their efforts to host the commonwealth games and if they need any help, us Scots will gladly aid them.

A whole 81 Seats ? have you ever been to the Two Stadiums in Question ? I have and about 15000 seats are bench seating at the end of the Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton . All 60000 plus Seats in Abuja are single seats with seat backs . I have absolutely no doubt that the number of Seats is actually higher then the published 60000 as the Kenya vs Nigeria qualifier for WC 2010 over sold with 65,000 tickets.

WE don't need friging help from Scotland who can barely cope with they own economic problems , had only one company answer the tender call for Scotstoun to be renovated ending up closting them 7 million pounds over what they budgeted for let alone tell Nigeria to risk athletes careers with a Scaffolding Track that has never been used in any IAAF event . Your a pretty ignorant NED really. God you don't even have a handicap lift for the Tiny Train Station that services Hampdem Park let alone any parking for buses once you do lay out the required 400 meter practice track over the current practice field for soccer and the parking lot on the west end of the Stadium .

So why is it that Ron Webb ended his design relation with Glasgow for the Velodrome early this year ? Could it be he was having trouble getting a check for his services which he was polite enough to say violation of the terms of the contract !!!! sound like code for the reasons the Velodrome and Athletes village is being delayed according to the bid plans. The effort has run into money problems just like the developers Glasgow was counting to provide Glasgow Council with the 20 share of the Commonwealth games expenses.

Please stop talking to Susan Boyles Cat LOL

This is added from Commonwealth Games 2018 tread as it does relate to Africas chances if they do bid on 2018 or future games

Record of Wins / Losses and Attempts by Commonwealth Region

The regions are listed from top to bottom with according to success rate

Region Wins/losses/attempts Winning Percentage Number attempts before first win City to lose for Region

Caribbean 1 / 0 / 1 100 percent 1

Americas 2 / 1 / 3 66 percent 1 Hamilton Ontario

Asia 2/ 2 / 4 50 percent 3 New Delhi Twice

Europe 2 / 3 / 5 40 percent 2 Edinburgh 1966, Leeds !978 , Cardiff 1994

Oceania 2 / 2 / 5 40 percent 2 Christchurch 1970, Adelaide 1998 the 1974 games were a NZvs Au contest.

Africa 0/ 2 / 2 Zero Percent Could be 3 like Asia Salisbury ,Rhodesia1966 , Abuja 2014

Ironically the odds for Abuja 2014 vs a European Candidate were much better then a contest with both Americas and European Candidates. Canada is the most deadly Country to do multiple bids for the Games. Europe prior to the 2014 contest had a drought of winning of about 41 years with its only international bid win coming in 1964 for Edinburgh 1970. Their Percentage was the worst of any region having staged the games at 25 percent wins to attempts. The UK being that multiple bid nation certainly has no high ground on bidding and it fact have muffed it a couple of times really failing to perhaps see that their timing has been bad and that delegates lump Scotland. Wales and England together as Britain Perhaps while these province of the UK consider themselves nations ? Leeds bidding for the 1978 games really is a total waste really with Edinburgh hosting two years before that election. Cardiff 1994 again bad timing as Edinburgh again had just hosted two years before the 1994 bid election. The Third Loss being Edinburgh 1966 again two years after Cardiff hosted in 1958. Scotland it seemed learned the lesson of bid timing by not bidding on 2010 as the elections now come one year after a commonwealth games and Manchester 2002 followed by a 2010 bid by Scotland would have probably failed .

With no two time elected hosts being a negative against Auckland and Australia never winning a bid election 2018 looks promising for Africa. Australia's over huge disadvantage is they have hosted 4 times and Canada did not succeed in making 2010 the fifth hosting with the birthplace of the games Hamilton. If Hamilton could not do it over a New Delhi then maybe in 2018 Australia will not be granted a fifth hosting over a Frontier nation in Africa.

Abuja could as a second time bidder win with the fact it would be the third attempt from Africa perhaps going to an Election. An election may not happen with both the NZOC and AGCA saying they will make a decision on whether to bid or not on 2018. A win to host the World cup would certainly put Australia out for 2018 and New Zealand researched 2014 in the end declining to bid siting the scale of the games.

Abuja could not have a better chance to be a host with two opponents having history against them via the bid election record. Without Canada and UK in a bid the odds become much greater for the next African candidate if it is in 2018 that candidate comes forth. Any other African Candidate besides Abuja will have the first time bidder handicap unless Harare put in a Bid LOL Unlikely even for that city to win with Robert Magabe alive LOL. South Africa could be a wildcard from Africa with a bid probably having the great honor of a city winning on the first attempt that only belongs to the following. Auckland, Glasgow, Edmonton , Victoria, Kuala Lumpar and my personal favorite the very first international competition winner Kingston Jamaica. South Africa could win in their first bid election.

So, in conclusion you admit you were wrong about saying Abuja had the biggest athletics stadium in the commonwealth. 81 seats count! Well done! That's really mature of you Jim. :D

Again, Scotland sends her best wishes to you and Abuja's bid. If you need any advice from me when you are elected president of Abuja's committee, just send me a message mate. I'll happily educate you.

Jim, if you hate me so much (as you are racist against Scots) why do you spend most of your time on Gamesbid quoting me? That's a bit strange.

Anyway. Talk to the hand sista........
