Euro 2008

Kahn hasn't been Germany's keeper since 2004. Klinseman's first choice was always Lehmann and so he is Low's.

Robert Enke is probably the next in line, though I know some would prefer Rene Alder to take over after this tournament.

Yup I agree for me Rene Alder is better than Enke, Mmh... How bout Timo Hildebrand ?

So what happened to the Caicos? Didn't they do their part?:lol:

Ahmet, so is the Turks & Caicos part-Turkish? (I'll probalby find the answer in Wiki before I return here.)

Oh, Baron -- you're dwindling. A weak joke doesn't become better by repeating it.

Just to prevent that you pick up wrong names: It's actually René Adler, not Alder. "Adler" means "eagle" while "Alder" is slang for "Alter" ("old man", which is also used as chummy address among young people). So this is an important difference! ;)

well, I was part curious. I've wondered why those Caribbean islands were called 'Turks & Caicos'? Maybe Ahmet knows something I or Wiki doesn't. Is it wrong to ask?

Well that's easy! The British came to discover these pair of islands only to realize how breathtaking and reminiscent one of them is of Turkey. Hence, the name was given to this island, as it's the Turkish getaway in Caribbean.

There you have it. B):D

OK, that makes a sensible connection to me.

Next question @whomever knows: so why is a Euro schedule tighter than a WC one (i.e., as the tournament heads towards the finals, the rest days from what I recall of the last 2 WCs are longer? Or has it always been this way -- more closely packed for the Euros and more rest days between matches in the WCs?

Since I know that Faster is a huge fan of German football I have already translated this years song by Revolverheld - this time I translated the German classic football song, which was sung by the team of 1974:

Fussball ist unser Leben

Ah Oh Heja Heja He

Ah Oh Heja Heja He

Ah Oh Heja Heja He

Ah Oh Heja Heja He

Fußball ist unser Leben,

Football is our life,

denn König Fußball regiert die Welt.

cause King football is ruling the world.

Wir kämpfen und geben alles,

We fight and give everything,

bis dann ein Tor nach dem anderen fällt.

until a goal will be scored after another.

Ja, einer für alle, alle für einen,

Yes, one for all, all for one,

wir halten fest zusammen.

we stick together firmly.

Und ist der Sieg dann unser,

And when we are victorious,

sind Freud und Ehr für uns alle bestellt.

we will share joy and honour.

Ein jeder Gegner will uns natürlich schlagen.

Of course every other team wants to defeat us.

Er kann’s versuchen, er darf es ruhig wagen,

They can try it, they are free to take the risk,

doch sieht er denn nicht,

but don’t they see,

dass hunderttausend Freunde zusammensteh’n?

that we hundred thousands friends stick together?

* original commentary of the final goal in 1954*

Ah Oh Heja Heja He

La la la la la...

La la la la la...

Wir spielen immer, sogar bei Wind und Regen,

We even play football, when it is windy and rainy,

auch wenn die Sonne lacht und andre sich vergnügen,

or when the sun shines and everybody is enjoying life.

Doch schön ist der Lohn,

But the merit is wonderful,

wenn hunderttausend Freunde zusammensteh’n.

when we hundred thousands friends stick together.

Oh, I almost forgot my prediction for today:

Russia-Spain 1-2

Now that the Spaniards have proven that they have strong nerves as well (in addition to their high football skills), I think that they stand a good chance of defeating Russia a second time. Although it will be, of course, more difficult than in the group stage.

... just for the records I love the english football song of 1996!!

:o my god I just recognising that the EURO 1996 is 12 years ago...

Dear me that brings back memories. Davor Suker lobbing Peter Schmeichel at Hillsborough. England's sensational performance against Holland. Gascoigne's goal against the Scots. And Andreas Moller making himself look a complete twit after scoring the winning penalty in THAT semi-final.

You lost deal with it.

The first 20 minutes where good, but the last bit was boring. The conditions are not the greatest, hopefully the pitch does not get destroyed for the final because I doubt they can replace the pitch in such short time.

Poor David Villa, out already.
