cfm Jeremie
Great news, my contact in the media who is good friends with the Priemer has told me that it will snow in BC Place for the opening ceremonies. That means the snow will cool the flame and no explosion. They also said they could use a blue flame instead of yellow, everyone knows blue means cold. Hmmm actually, a blue flame usually means that the combustion is better and therefore a blue flame is hotter than a yellow.

Orangevest
ohoh he's right, blue is hotter, damn that means the flame is now over 5000 degrees. The whole place will blow up. We will be the laughing stock of the world. Someone should call the police and tell them that thousands of people are facing certain death. Maybe instead of a flame we could have a giant taser, if the APC gets too close they get zapped.

My post wasn't meant to criticize Vancouver plan or anything. Just a scientific fact. As I said previously, I have no doubt whatsoever that if an indoor flame was as risky as some here would like us to believe (I am certain there is a safe way to have the flame indoor), VANOC won't take a chance. Worse comes to worse the flame will be outdoor and it won't be the end of all things...
baron-pierreIV
X already posted videos of rock concerts inside that hall that had flames larger than necessary for an Olympic flame. So I really don't know what the fuss is about. I'm too lazy to dig up his previous links.
Jamie25
You still don't get it do ya? The flame is burning for 17 straight days. Understand? 17 days. Not just a few seconds. In a rock concert like those flame shots for the Rolling Stones or a Monster Truck show the flame lights for a few seconds at most. Good to see Jlousa on here disguising himself as Orangevest. When you find out what was blacked out in those 13 censored pages on the Roof report let us all know.
cfm Jeremie
I could also be possible to have two cauldrons: one inside, used for the opening ceremony which would be lit at the end of the ceremony (and later extinguished so it would only burn for one hour or so) one outside that would be lit after the one inside and which would burn for the 17 days of the Games, being visible from all over Vancouver No drama, every body is happy. baron-pierreIV
You still don't get it do ya? The flame is burning for 17 straight days. Understand? 17 days. Not just a few seconds. Don't be stupid. They're NOT going to let a cauldron burn IN there for 17 days. R u crazy? They will place a cauldron where it will BE seen by the most people. That is outside!! As jeremie just said and as I had posited earlier: 2.5 cauldrons: a small interior one (.5) for the Ceremony, a larger one outside for Vancouver viewing to burn for the 17 days -- and if the VANOC budget and environmental concerns allow, probably another one in Whistler. It would NOT be the first time 2 cauldrons are used. 2 were lit in Innsbruck 1976; 2 for the 1980 Games in Moscow (the other was actually at the yachting site in Tallinn). It would have a double meaning of -- as I said before, Canada's dual cultural identity AND the 2nd time Canada would host the Winter Games (the .5 would be a bow to the First Nations cultures). So Vancouver 2010 would be the first one with 2.5 cauldrons -- and the one to burn up the MOST gas if this would come to pass. Go to sleep, jamie. There are other more importnat things to worry about. Edited May 7, 2008 by baron-pierreIV
Orangevest
How's it going Harry? Why so hostile I'm you're old buddy. We used to pass the "football" around remember? My source tells me something really juicy is coming up. Not only are we getting an NFL team but probably a MLB team too, it'll be called the Expos. Orangevest
Come on over Harry, I'm sure we can cook something up. My source is now telling me that GM place will also be getting a retratable roof, so that the people in the future office tower can watch the games for free as a perk. This city is awesome. Orangevest
Why are you being so shy all of a sudden Harry? Are you still upset I won't let you wear my Orange Vest? My sources are telling me that Gordo will give everyone at BC Place for the olympics an orange vest and a hardhat. That way everyone will look cool like me, and when the roof explodes everyone will be safe.
Orangevest
Shangri-la probably has millions of stories, just like any hotel would, I have a few stories myself in various hotels around town.

Kenadian
It was just announced that Madonna will be playing at BC Place in the fall. She's donating her cone bra to be used to solve the problem - one boob is the dome, the other is the cauldron.
Jamie25
LaPresse newspaper says Montreal's Olympic Stadium is getting a New Roof too! Problem with Olympic Stadium is the current Roof is not suitable for Montreal's winter weather conditions (snow and ice load) so Olympic doesn't have an occupancy permit during winter months. Orangevest
City hall is doing fine, I've been doing some work on cityhall, I shouldn't say anything but city hall is also going to get a retractable roof. On a somewhat related matter Sam Sullivan has been working out, my sources tell me he plans on winning a gold at the paraolympic games.

Orangevest
My source is telling me they won't be having cake. they will be giving everyone sunglasses though to keep the sun out of their eyes when we get the retractable roof. The glasses I'm sure will be shapped like 25s.
Jamie25
Whitecaps change stance on MSL at BC Place Vancouver/CKNW(AM980) Jim Mullin 5/9/2008 Throughout the course of the Vancouver Whitecaps quest for a waterfront stadium, the club has said that they would never consider playing at BC Place. CKNW has learned that their strategy has changed, if for no other reason than the expansion clock on Major League Soccer is ticking, and the team does not want to be left on the outside looking in. Whitecaps President Bob Lenarduzzi told CKNW that if a retractable roof was built on BC Place before or after the Olympics the team would take steps to bring an expansion franchise to Vancouver. CKNW has also learned that the team would require some seating rennovations to bring fans closer to the action, and alterations to the interior of the facility to accommodate a fan base of 20-30,000. The whitecaps say they would continue to pursue a waterfront stadium even if they started play in the MLS using BC Place.
