Is the olympic store in London already open?

I could not find an adress in London where I can buy pins. Do the sponsors have pins to send out?

Hi Anno -

Nothing seems to be publicly available yet, and no officical Olympic store has opened, although we have seen dignitaries and the like wearing new logo 2012 pins at various press events etc.

EBay has loads of bid phase pins available, and you never know - the odd post-bid pin might pop up on there as well. Give it a go.

Hi Guys,

The London 2012 Pin collection has been launched and the pins are available to buy from Runnersneed and Crest of London stores in London and available to buy on the Crest of London website. Runnersneed Canary Wharf store will also take telephone orders for the pins.

The Canary Wharf store has them for sale. I bought mine in the commemorative pack today, as well the Union Jack one. On the pack it says there will be a total of 2012 seperate designs to collect. Is this correct? Sounds crazy! I don't think I will manage to get them all.

The pack is £25, the Union Jack 2012 logo £6.50 and the four brand coloured logos and Paralympic logo are £5 each.

I have VISA, EDF Energy, BT and Lloyds TSB pins - these are the only sponsor pins currently available.

Official pins I am missing are the VIP Gold/Silver pin, 4 years to go and Beijing Handover Ceremony pin - if anybody can help please contact me.

List of London 2012 Pins

I'm trying to pull together a website of London 2012 pin information and images. It's early days yet, but until the website is up and running, take a look at http://london2012pins.blogspot.com/. I'm not trying to sell anything, just create a base of information which London 2012 pin collectors may find useful.

You can find my (fledgling) site at http://www.london2012pins.com

Use the email link on the home page to send me any constructive comments.

The set of 5 pins is now available to buy online, where as before u had to purchase it from the shop, here's the link

http://www.runnersneed.co.uk/shopping.aspx?id=7444

Can anybody tell me when they are gonna open a designated store in London or online. I think they are missing out on making a bit of money selling some count down merchandise. Are they holding off til the mascot launch?

I received one I believe was from EDF energy. It is green and orange with the 2012 logo and the words sustainability partner.

I think it is quite pretty. I think the logo will work well with what ever sponsor is allowed to use it. It is not limited to a certain color or shape.

Marking another landmark: the limited edition '3 years to go' pin

Anna, LOCOG Licensing Manager, 23 Jul 2009

You'd have to be walking around with your eyes closed not to have noticed that the 'three years to go' milestone event is nearly upon us and certainly in the licensing and retail team, we are very excited about this event.

I'm the licensing manager for jewellery and collectable products, such as the lapel pins and it's quite a responsibility: pins are a huge part of Olympic culture, as well as a way of paying for the Games.

The part of my job that really makes everyone else at LOCOG jealous is that I always get to see all the pins we're making earlier than anyone else.

I'm writing this blog post because on 27th of July we'll be launching one of our most exciting pins so far – a very collectable limited edition pin marking three years to go until the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games.

We're only going to produce 3,000 of them, and they'll be available to buy in the Museum of London shop and Runner's Need and Crest of London outlets from the 27th. The Museum of London will also be adding this pin to their existing collection of Games memorabilia.

There's a great tradition of 'countdown pins' in the Games, most of which become very collectable nearer Games-time.

I first got to know about Olympic pins fever during the Beijing Games. As an example of returns on investment, pins were produced for 1,000 days to go which initially retailed for 22RMB, but due to its rarity some collectors later paid over 3,000RMB for it on the second hand market!

Apart from the 3 Years To Go pin, we'll also be launching quite a few other pin designs, including sets on the themes of London landmarks, flowers, teapots, music festivals and the weather (a personal favourite).

These themes reflect a universal trend in Olympic pins. They tend to fall into two broad categories - pins depicting sports and Olympic or Paralympic culture; and pins depicting the culture and landmarks of the host city. So in Beijing, there were pins about Chinese characters, Beijing landmarks and Chinese food. For London 2012, without wishing to give anything away, you might expect to see designs based on anything from London Markets to Punk.

I think I've given away enough secrets for the time being. The only other piece of advice I have is, anyone after a recession-beating investment should consider investing in a London 2012 3 Years To Go pin. They might be a small souvenir made of copper, nickel and enamel, but they're worth their weight in gold.
