Aronious Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 I am still deciding whether to go through fully with this bid. It is pretty much all done from other bid attempts but im not sure if its worth the effort refining it. anyway, heres the logo
NYCD 2012 Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 Ooooo... I voted for Kiruna the last time they bid in 2018 and I am going it again !
Aronious Posted March 8, 2008 Author Report Posted March 8, 2008 I think i'll just turn Kiruna into the perpetual failing city...ala Istanbul and Ryan's Lake Placid. Kiruna would never work in real life unless it was about 500km closer to Stockholm...but its interesting to see how a Games based souly around tourism and tourists, rather than the local culture/people would work.
Aronious Posted March 19, 2008 Author Report Posted March 19, 2008 Kiruna Announces Olympic Stadium Plan Kiruna Olympic Stadium Location: Kiruna (0.0km) Capacity: max 23,400 (various configurations) Events Held: Opening Ceremony, Closing Ceremony, Curling, Speed Skating, Ice Hockey (FINAL) Budget: US$220million, US$50million (ongoing)
Citius Altius Fortius Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 I think a closed roof is better for a stadium in Kiruna - since there is heavy snow in Kiruna and it will become complicated to clear the icerink of snow...

Kiruna's Olympics will not be held in the generally accepted "winter" season. Instead, during the month September, where there is less/little snowfall in Kiruna itself, while plenty in Bjorklinden and surrounding ski areas. There are various reasons for this aside from the stadium. Access for one to Kiruna is very difficult during the peak winter periods. Tempreture for athletes and visitors is another.
