It could be, although my logo represents The Pyrenees at the top and the Ebro river at the bottom. A fusion between Zaragoza and the Jaca area...

skicross, I am excited about your Tharagotha bid -- but if u don't my saying so at this point, u need a more exciting WINTRISH logo. As scotguy said, it is very reminscent of Vancouver's paralympic logo. Try an exciting Spanish-type snowflake. Just my dos pesetas.

You are right, I made a Zaragoza bid book some time ago, it is in the "Future Bids Discussion" topic. It is a general bid book (more than 80 pages) for a Zaragoza WOG, but it is in Spanish, so few people in GB could understand it...

What i have done is to translate into English the most important parts of the bid book. But the one you have in your computer is the first version of the bid book, i have changed the venue maps, accomodation and a bit of transports sections since then.

I remember it well. A fantastic book despite only being able to read a few lines. Will be good to have it in english.

mhh - and the distance between the Aragon and the Tena Valley?

Less than 20 km of 4 permanent lanes Highway too. Jaca is in the Aragon Valley, and the Tena Valley (Sabiñanigo) is in the way between Jaca and Zaragoza, look at this map...

I have posted this comparison before, and you will find it in the bid book too, but i think is quite illustrative of the transport infraestructures of Zaragoza bid compared to the ones of Vancouver 2010.

Both bids have a very similar venue and transport infraestructure plan.

Zaragoza-Jaca connected in 25 minutes - FEASIBLE

Nowadays, the Aerodrome of Santa Cilia de Jaca (15 km from Jaca) is being upgraded to make it capable to attend commercial flights.

For the Olympic Games the Aerodrome would be transformed into a little Airport to connect Jaca and Zaragoza. It would represent a huge legacy for an area that deposits a great part of its economy in winter sports.

With this new infrastructure, Zaragoza and Jaca would be connected in only 25 minutes approximately. It would be a perfect alternative of transport for the Games. Besides, all the Medias and the Olympic family could use it freely during the Games. The Media Villages have been located near the airports thinking about this idea, to easier the trips. Zaragoza MMC and Zaragoza Media Village are less than 8 Km far from the Airport.

Both, Zaragoza and Jaca Airports, are connected with the cities by Highways (4 permanent lanes for Jaca, and 6 lanes for Zaragoza).

I doubt that a flight Zaragoza-Jaca is efficient for an airline - the plane doesn't even reach "voyage-altitude" - it is more likely that there will be flights like Madrid-Jaca, Barcelona-Jaca, Sevilla-Jaca etc.etc.

(P.S.: I work for Lufthansa)

Yes of course, you are totally right, what i wanted to say is that for the Games, Jaca's Airport would only receive flights from Zaragoza in order to control all the traffic.

After the Games, Jaca's Airport would have the flights you said.

For example, Huesca's Airport (near to Zaragoza but quite far from the Ski Resorts) has an airline, Pyrenair, which offers flights to Madrid, Valencia, A Coruña and Lisboa. Then the passengers are taken to the Ski Resorts, it is being a success. The idea is become Jaca's Airport in the real Airport of the Pyrenees!

This does not strike me as environmentally friendly.

A short haul flight produces 8 times the C02 emissions that a train uses for the same journey.

You are probably right, but I reckon that it would be environmentally friendlier than destroying a beautifull Valley with new infraestructures which would represent disproportionate legacy for the area...

I know that this small airport is also a great infraestructure but there is already an aerodrome existing so the damage of the environment would be really small and the legacy is really reasonable. We have to take into account that these flights (Zaragoza-Jaca) would only exist during the Games period, after them the airport would be opened to new flights.
