Citius Altius Fortius Posted March 7, 2008 Author Report Posted March 7, 2008 You have already given your bid a hard nudge of poor planning. In what way, James? He hasn't shown you anything, or posted any plans on the board yet. ... I would like to know that, too...
Citius Altius Fortius Posted March 8, 2008 Author Report Posted March 8, 2008 I have finished all venue maps - I "just" need to write the bid book - then I will sent it to TNMP...
skicross Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 good luck with the bid book CAF! i know how difficult must be for you to do it (not being from Australia), it has been quite difficult for me being from Zaragoza!
Aronious Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 good luck with the bid book CAF! i know how difficult must be for you to do it (not being from Australia), it has been quite difficult for me being from Zaragoza! Luckily Canberra promotes itself like a cunt so there lots of info out there...dunno why they bother, no ones gonna move there.
Citius Altius Fortius Posted March 8, 2008 Author Report Posted March 8, 2008 ... thanks skicross, I wish you luck, too - well, when I did the Hamburg bid book I really know what I wanted to mention in the bid book, since I know my hometown very well, but this time it is totally different: I "love" Australia and I hope that the Aussie members will like my Canberra bid... I think it is the time to release the logo:
Aronious Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 thats just a NAB advertisement in hiding...but good work thus far CAF!
Citius Altius Fortius Posted March 8, 2008 Author Report Posted March 8, 2008 The four Commonwealth stars (and the fifth small star) represent the Southern Cross, like it is shown on the Australian Flag - furthermore the five stars reminds on a snow flake - the world famous spire of the Parliament House in Canberra represent the close Snowy Mountains!!!
Citius Altius Fortius Posted March 11, 2008 Author Report Posted March 11, 2008 I have just sent the bid book to tnmp!
Citius Altius Fortius Posted March 13, 2008 Author Report Posted March 13, 2008 Australia's beautiful nature - the snowy mountains - Winter Sports under the Southern Cross
Citius Altius Fortius Posted March 13, 2008 Author Report Posted March 13, 2008 After Ron Clarke and Cathy Freeman lit the Olympic Flames in Melbourne 1956 and Sydney 2000 it is time that the Olympic Flame is lit in Canberra 2018 at Winter Olympics!!!
Citius Altius Fortius Posted March 14, 2008 Author Report Posted March 14, 2008 Let us bring the Winter Games to Australia - I would love to hear this in 2018 at the Opening Ceremony in Canberra!!!!
Citius Altius Fortius Posted March 15, 2008 Author Report Posted March 15, 2008 It is difficult to wait until the contest has really started!!! Canberra will be ready for the contest and will be very proud if it receives the honour to host for the XXIII. Olympic Winter Games in 2018!!!
Lord David Posted March 15, 2008 Report Posted March 15, 2008 Any possibilities of a bid book preview?
Citius Altius Fortius Posted March 15, 2008 Author Report Posted March 15, 2008 Any possibilities of a bid book preview? mhh - I planned to publish the venue maps not before all the other bid books had arrived by TNMP
Aronious Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 i love how you tease using the spire of parlierment house as a possible cauldron in your post....It would be interesting to see whether something like that could ever fly. I cant recall the Australian flag ever been taken down (except to be exchanegd and cleaned) or even flow at half mask ever since the house opened.

Citius Altius Fortius Posted March 16, 2008 Author Report Posted March 16, 2008 Question for our Aussie members, only! 1st proposal for the medalplaza 2nd proposal for the medalplaza Please vote, which proposal is better?
Sir Rols Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 Question for our Aussie members, only! 1st proposal for the medalplaza 2nd proposal for the medalplaza Please vote, which proposal is better? Number 2 You just couldn't get away with putting the torch on top of our symbol of national sovereignity _ it would be like taking the Reichstag Dome off to put a cauldrojn in its place. Anyway, a cauldron in Lake Burley Griffin would be a nice, good lasting legacy from a games.

I would choose Number 2, too - but I have to admit the olympic flame on the spire of the new parliament house looks very impressive - yeah a cauldron in Lake Walter Burley Griffin would be a good lasting legacy!!!!

It would be another fgreat landmark in what is a very impressive vista already. It really is a stunning view already from the front of Parliemant House, over the lake, and cross up a sweeoping avenue to the War Memorial. Really, the greatest ceremonial vista in Australia.
Citius Altius Fortius Posted March 16, 2008 Author Report Posted March 16, 2008 It would be another fgreat landmark in what is a very impressive vista already. It really is a stunning view already from the front of Parliemant House, over the lake, and cross up a sweeoping avenue to the War Memorial. Really, the greatest ceremonial vista in Australia. ... when I searched for a place for the medal ceremonies I chose this place exaclty out of this reason: the pontoon marks really the center of the Parliamentary triangle - the cauldron could be a little bit behind it in the lake - it would be very very impressive to stand in front of the war memorial looking down the Anzac parade over to parliament house - and in between the lake with the cauldron and the Olympic Flame!!!
Citius Altius Fortius Posted March 16, 2008 Author Report Posted March 16, 2008 I suppose our Aussie members understand only, what I mean - therefore here is a map, what I mean...
Aronious Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 A cauldron on the lake would be spectacular; would it ruin views from the war memorial looking back towards old and new parlierment house? Lighting from the stadium would be difficult (unless you're planning a stadium on the lake...?) but still a great idea. As long as it doesnt end up as redundant as the Cook/High Court Water Spout.
Citius Altius Fortius Posted March 17, 2008 Author Report Posted March 17, 2008 ...would it ruin views from the war memorial looking back towards old and new parlierment house? I think the answer of this question depends on the eye of the beholder - a cauldron in the lake would be definitely an eye-catcher and would therefore divert attention from the War Memorial and the New Parliament House. A compromise could be in my point of view a non-permanent cauldron in the lining-up of War Memorial, Anzac Parade, Lake, Commonwealth Place, Old Parliament House and finally New Parliament House during the Games. After the Games the Aussies could decide if the cauldron should stay in the lining-up or relocated to another place in the lake... ... and I think it would be looking fantastic!!! Lighting from the stadium would be difficult (unless you're planning a stadium on the lake...?) but still a great idea. As long as it doesnt end up as redundant as the Cook/High Court Water Spout. No - I thought it could be more like the Olympic Flame on Sydney Tower during the 2000 Olympics...
